1
you
2
- Hello, you're currently outside.
3
Today is like almost 80 degrees, I think it's the one that's warmest day the entire year so far and so I thought Why not just come outside.
4
Just got done with work, still have a couple of hours before the sun goes down.
5
I've also been stuck in my room all day so I just wanted to get outside, breathe some fresh air.
6
I made a list in my journal of things that have just been bringing some joy in my life recently.
7
My drink of the day is a coconut water matcha Except I did say fill about half of it.
8
I was afraid it would kind of taste like pickles but thankfully it doesn't.
9
Sorry if the lighting keeps changing.
10
The unfortunate thing about filming outside is that I can't control the lighting.
11
So apologies in advance.
12
but Yeah, April was a really...
13
really tough month.
14
Emotionally, physically, mentally, just drained in every single aspect.
15
My mom was also out of the country in Korea for about three weeks.
16
of the past month and a half and so I feel like not having her around
17
made things a little harder to financially, I feel like.
18
I've been the most frugal I have ever been.
19
Like, I really haven't traveled much since the year started.
20
I've been living at home.
21
Especially since I started working remote from home, I've been saving so much money on food, on transportation, which is good for my wallet,
22
but unfortunately not that great for my soul.
23
It's definitely been an adjustment not being able to just like do whatever I want in the week back
24
when I was just working part time.
25
Surprisingly, I've been really enjoying the structure of having a 9 to 5.
26
I don't care what any freelancer has to say.
27
Having a stable paycheck there's truly nothing like it.
28
Anyways it seems kind of superficial but I just wanted to talk about some
29
Things that have been bringing me joy in my life.
30
Media, clothing, little comforts.
31
Starting with my daily beverage.
32
Ever since I started working from home I feel like I've become
33
such a homebody I don't even want to leave my house to like go work from the library
34
or the cafe and this is really random but this coconut water is so good but it's also so expensive.
35
Unfortunately, I keep finding myself buying it because it just tastes the best.
36
Starting off with clothing favorites.
37
I feel like I have really cut down on my spending on clothes this past year.
38
I feel like I have certain uniforms that I stick to throughout the week.
39
One of those pieces of that uniform are my Repeto ballet flats.
40
I'm not going to show them up close because They're honestly Pretty gross.
41
I bought these when I was in Paris last year.
42
These are the Camille Valley Flats from Repetto, they have like a little heel.
43
I did get blisters the first
44
couple times I wore them but now they are fully broken in and they're honestly so comfortable.
45
I've worked at the cafe in these shoes, walked all around the city with them.
46
I forget what this part is called but it's also
47
pretty short and I feel like it makes the ballet flat look really elegant on the feet.
48
Every time I wear them, I'm just reminded of my time in Paris, which I think makes them all the more special.
49
Another favorite of mine has been this ring specifically.
50
It is the San Signet ring from Lobetta.
51
It's a brand that this girl I follow and her husband created.
52
Her name is Daisy.
53
It's made of silver and I just love it so much.
54
Usually this is like the only ring that I'll wear.
55
I just decided to wear this one today as well.
56
Just as more picky with the things that I buy including clothes, jewelry, makeup, everything.
57
I also recently bought these pajamas from EverJ.
58
There's a tradition in Korea where you buy your parents pajamas with your first paycheck that you get from a job.
59
I bought my entire family really nice pajamas, bought myself a pair, and these pajamas are the softest things that I have ever put on my body.
60
Definitely an investment, but one that has brought me so much joy and comfort.
61
Because I've been working from home, I've also just been wearing a lot more comfortable clothes.
62
Even though my pajamas are so comfortable, I do try to change out of them will just feel really sloppy and not as productive.
63
For example, I would change out of my pajamas into a pair of lounge pants like the ones I'm wearing right now.
64
These pants are from Organic Basics and they are the second most comfortable thing
65
that I could put on my body next to my pajamas.
66
Thank you so much to Organic Basics for sponsoring this video.
67
Even though this video is sponsored, I genuinely love every single thing I have from them.
68
I'm currently wearing their underwear, one of their bralettes, and their everyday straight leg pants.
69
I'm a firm believer in investing in good basics because
70
It's really hard to have a good wardrobe if you don't have a good foundation to start with.
71
All the tops and underwear I have from them are GOTS certified global organic textile standard
72
which means they are made from at least 70 % organic fiber.
73
I've also been trying to slowly transition my wardrobe into having more natural fibers and that 100 % includes my underwear.
74
I honestly have to stop myself from wearing the everyday pants literally every day because they're just so comfortable, they're so flattering.
75
I'm usually not someone who walks out of my house wearing sweatpants, but these I will go run errands in, I will do yoga in.
76
T -shirts that I have from them are also so comfortable and lightweight.
77
perfect for summer, just a really great brand for everyday basics that feel good, fit right.
78
I just really love that every detail is so intentional from their design to their sourcing to even their labor practices.
79
If you're interested, you can use code DOBOTROBO15 for 50 % off.
80
This code is only until the end of May, so just something to keep in mind.
81
Moving on to some beauty products.
82
I don't have too many because I have just been using the same thing like I mentioned.
83
But I do have a couple fragrances.
84
The first one being Ilio from Diptyque.
85
I kind of stopped wearing perfume for some reason.
86
I think because I've just been at home all the time, I don't really feel the need to...
87
wear fragrance since i'm like not meeting anyone
88
but i recently pulled this out of like my summer stash forgot just how good this smelled
89
and that i need to be wearing more perfume
90
because it genuinely brings me so much joy to me this smells like a beach day sunscreen on warm skin
91
just everything I love about summer.
92
I bought this as a graduation gift to myself almost two years ago now
93
and it just instantly takes me back to that first summer post -grad.
94
Late days, long summer evenings in Washington.
95
I made a short form video recently talking about
96
some of my favorite summer perfumes and the specific memories I have associated with them.
97
the main reason why I love perfumes.
98
When you wear a specific perfume for a certain amount of time or for an experience.
99
I love the fact that smelling that perfume
100
can instantly take you back to that moment in a way that photos or videos can't.
101
Another example is that I have this specific perfume
102
that I wore a lot when I studied abroad in Italy
103
and I specifically don't wear that perfume anymore because I don't want to dilute
104
the connection that scent has to the memories I have studying abroad in Italy.
105
It's very nostalgic and honestly a little bittersweet.
106
Not even just perfumes, just - Ascent in general, I feel like so strongly correlated to different memories I have in my lifetime.
107
I'll just be walking through a parking lot
108
and randomly get a whiff of something that takes me back to an extremely specific
109
niche memory from my childhood and I think that's so fascinating
110
but anyways this is probably going to be my main perfume of the summer.
111
I've also been loving this hand cream from Aesop.
112
This is their resurrection hand balm, mandarin rind, rosemary leaf, and cedar atlas.
113
It's a very citrus forward scent and I mainly use this when I'm working at my desk.
114
Again, I love the ritual that is associated with things like perfume and hand cream.
115
I will say it's not the most moisturizing hand cream.
116
The one from L 'Occitane is much better for dry hands, but mainly use this one for the scent.
117
I think it's really good.
118
Those are pretty much all of my material favorites.
119
Next, I have some media favorites.
120
Starting off with shows.
121
I honestly haven't really been watching movies.
122
simply don't have the attention span for movies these days.
123
I've been watching "The Pit" and I know I'm a little behind I know the second season is already fully out.
124
I've honestly never really been like a medical show person.
125
I never got into Grey's Anatomy.
126
I was really into the good doctor as a kid.
127
The premise of the show is that every episode is one hour of shift in the emergency room.
128
The characters, the plot, the storytelling is just so good.
129
It does stress me out which is the reason why I haven't finished it yet.
130
I have to like take my time watching each episode.
131
I can't just binge watch it but would highly recommend.
132
I've also been watching scenes from a marriage.
133
I just started it so it's not - I wouldn't consider it a favorite.
134
The acting is already so incredible.
135
I'm also quite interested in like relationship psychology so if you have any thoughts about the show
136
please let me know in the comments.
137
As for books, I only have a few recommendations.
138
I feel like I haven't really had the bandwidth to read as much recently which has sucked.
139
I've been slowly making my way through Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver.
140
I'm almost done.
141
I have like less than 100 pages left.
142
I'm not even done yet but I can definitely tell this is gonna be one of my favorite books of the year.
143
It's a modern retelling of the book David Copperfield by Charles Dickens.
144
I've never read David Copperfield but this book has been such a breath of fresh air.
145
I feel like I kind of got into
146
a weird rut where I was only reading like
147
sad women literature which is great and all
148
but sometimes it just gets too much
149
and i just wanted a book with a great story interesting characters it is heartbreaking
150
but also really funny written in this very raw unflinching way.
151
Just a really really good story and I would highly recommend this.
152
I am looking for some more like lighthearted summer reads so if you have any recommendations please let me know.
153
Another favorite of mine recently has been Substack.
154
I used to write a little bit, not so much anymore.
155
There are a few writers that I really love.
156
First, Viv Chen who writes The Mole Hill.
157
I think she might be the first person who I actually started paying a subscription for because I absolutely love her style.
158
I love her voice.
159
Behind the paywall she has this insane curation of vintage clothes and shoes.
160
that you can only access if you are a paying subscriber and I think it is Totally worth it.
161
I also love Leandra Medin -Cohen who writes The Cereal Isle.
162
She's been a blogger for like a really long time.
163
And then I'm also subscribed to Liana Satenstein.
164
I forget the name of her blog but she used to work at Vogue and
165
I find her to be just like a really cool fashionable person.
166
I specifically love reading it as a newsletter in my email because At the end of the newsletter,
167
I'm not tempted to continue scrolling on the app or go down like a deep rabbit hole.
168
I just...
169
I'm done with it and I move on with my life.
170
Yeah, I've been enjoying getting a lot of fashion inspiration from people who.. actually work in fashion.
171
not just people on social media or Pinterest.
172
Even though I'm not necessarily buying things, I think seeing a lot more varying perspectives of style, things beyond just visual aesthetics.
173
Really key process in honing my own style and figuring out what it is that I like.
174
Just to wrap up this video because I've been sitting here for
175
so long and so many people have walked past me giving me looks like just Straight up staring at me.
176
I have a few activities
177
that I'm just really excited to participate more in summer One of them being cards my friends
178
and I are really into playing cards
179
and it's honestly like the most I fun simple activity there are a few that we always play we play idiot Kumbaya.
180
There's another one we love called Dutch Blitz.
181
Catch me outside playing cards with my friends on a beautiful summer day.
182
It's just so fun and so wholesome and you can always just have it around with you.
183
So I always have a deck of cards on me.
184
I've also been getting more into climbing.
185
My brother is really good at climbing.
186
He has like the perfect build for it.
187
I think I might invest in some climbing shoes.
188
because I've just been using rentals.
189
Even though I'm not that great, it's really fun, it's a really good workout.
190
And last but not least, yoga.
191
It's like the one thing that I'm actually consistent with physically.
192
Just so good for my mental and physical health.
193
Mainly do hot yoga, but I really want to do more yoga like outside in nature.
194
Yeah, those are all my late spring, early summer favorites.
195
Clouds have come in, the sun is starting to set so I think That is all I have time for today.
196
