1
Alright guys, so I've been living in my Tesla for the past two years now
2
and I wanted to talk to you guys all about it in today's video, so let's get into it.
3
So I've been living in this Tesla Model X since December of 2025, so seven months I've been living in this one.
4
Previously I did live inside my Tesla Model Y since May of 2024, so a total of two years I've been living inside Teslas.
5
But let me show you guys this rig.
6
This is a Tesla Model X that I converted into a van
7
because I basically created underneath storage with the help of a builder.
8
And that pretty much just, it's a wood panel.
9
And I have an entire single bed right here with a microwave, dramatic water pump.
10
And let me show you guys the back.
11
So this is the drawer system by B3 Customs in Oceanside near San Diego.
12
And bam, this is a fridge I have full access to.
13
And it stays plugged in 24-7 inside the Tesla 12-volt in the back.
14
Little walk around.
15
Let me show you guys this one.
16
So these are the X-Wing doors.
17
This Tesla Model X is actually discontinued now they don't make any of these
18
but here's the other view microwave
19
and then I have a power bank in the front also have a pop down sink right there
20
so I'm able to live in this full time with a full kitchen a fridge
21
and a bed
22
and let me tell you guys about the story of how I started living inside Tesla's okay
23
so I've been traveling so much I haven't really had a chance to like sit down
24
and like talk to you guys about like the story of how I started living inside the car.
25
So if you guys are new to the channel, my name is Nico.
26
I'm 31 years old and I live full-time in my Tesla for the past two years.
27
Since May of 2024, I started living inside a Tesla.
28
The Model Y before this.
29
Let's bring it back to 2017.
30
I had went to San Jose State.
31
I had just got a business degree and I was ready to conquer the world.
32
Yet I had applied to multiple different jobs.
33
I didn't get anything and I started my own business called Motivitz Meal Prep in San Jose, California.
34
And me and my brother had started it and we thought we had a good rhythm going.
35
We were selling about 200 meals a weekend and we thought it was all good.
36
And then we found out that it wasn't working and that I and my brother, me and my brother were just like, forget it.
37
We're just going to work full-time jobs yeah that's where alec had applied to tesla in 2018
38
and then i was still living off savings
39
and i was a server at a gen korean barbecue i think 2019 happened
40
and i got hired at tesla i was a production associate starting at 19 per hour
41
and keep in mind i had a business degree
42
and i was stunned i was like what is this like i i i went to school
43
and i and you know I got a business degree
44
and I'm starting at $19 an hour just base level starting
45
but you know I said I was gonna work hard inside Tesla
46
and work my way up so 2020 happened
47
and I got hired at GNC as a store associate
48
and then I had worked two jobs so I was working GNC
49
and I was working at Tesla
50
so I had actually got a promotion at Tesla I was a production team lead which was $24 an hour.
51
So I was working two jobs and I got a raise basically at Tesla
52
and I had for the life of me still wanted to climb the ladder
53
and so I actually became in 2021 a production supervisor starting at $85,000 a year and I thought life was great.
54
I have another job you know at GNC and I have Tesla and so things were going good.
55
So good that me and my parents actually
56
and my lower brother went into a house
57
and we bought a 1.2 million dollar house in Lathrop California
58
and so now my commute was from Lathrop all the way to Tesla in Fremont California
59
which was an hour and a half one way and an hour
60
and a half back and keep in mind the work shifts were three days one week
61
and four days the next week 12 hour shifts for all those days
62
so I was working like 630 a.m a.m to 6 30 p.m.
63
I was listening to Dave Ramsey on the road all the time.
64
I was listening to his podcast and it kind of gave me into the mindset
65
that you know be debt-free
66
and you know it's going to allow you to have more freedom if you ever want to get into something else.
67
So I kept listening to Dave Ramsey and being debt-free and what that can do for you.
68
The biggest expense is the house, the mortgage, right?
69
The rent payment.
70
It's going to be what whatever that number is, it's a thousand two thousand three thousand dollars right plus you have electricity and all
71
that in 2024 i had topped out my salary 120 000
72
a year i thought i was on top of the world
73
you know things are going great i actually got rid of
74
my uh gnc job i thought you know i don't need
75
that no more because i'm making 120 grand a year now you know life is great
76
and i thought it was smooth until 2024 in April.
77
I'll never forget it.
78
I was driving on I-580 and it was 4.30 in the morning.
79
My work shift started at 6.30.
80
So I was in the dark driving to work on FSD in my Model Y.
81
I had gotten an email saying my work account had been deactivated and I was like, what does that deactivate me?
82
And I would text my boss and my boss said, everybody got it, just come in.
83
And then I was like, okay.
84
So I came in to work to Fremont, hour and a half away, went to the badging gate, slid my badge and it turned red.
85
And the security guard had said, I had been laid off.
86
I don't work there no more.
87
So after 2019 to 2024, I got laid off.
88
And I thought my whole world was stunned.
89
It was just broken.
90
I was like, I look left and right, man.
91
I was like, damn, I remember coming here all the time, every work shift.
92
I slept actually in the parking lot to avoid the three-hour round-trip commute.
93
For about a year, I did that.
94
Because I used the showers at the facility in Tesla Fremont, California.
95
And they had microwaves inside the break room.
96
And yeah, it would be awkward to see my coworkers inside the bathroom sometimes at 6 a.m.
97
but you know how to get the job done right and
98
so you know got laid off
99
and I'll never forget it I went back home into
100
that inside that 1.2 million dollar house
101
and I told my parents I was like I just got laid off
102
and I don't know what to do and it shocked me
103
and it did my parents to electric car giant Tesla laid off around 10% of its workforce in April.
104
That translates to about 14,000 jobs.
105
Many who worked at the factory in Fremont were commuting from Sacramento, Stockton, and Lathrop.
106
Your reporter covering San Joaquin County, Esteban Reynoso, is in Lathrop, where one man is speaking out about his experience with the car company.
107
Everything was going right for Nico Murillo.
108
He had bought this house here in Lathrop right behind me, as well as a Tesla, while working at Tesla, and five years in, he got laid off.
109
Now he has to look for a new job and sell the house here in Lathrop.
110
Got laid off recently on April 15th and Monday.
111
Nico Murillo worked for five years at Tesla's car manufacturing factory in Fremont, building the cars we see on the roads.
112
He commuted almost every day, the hour and a half drive to and from work and home in Lathrop.
113
Pulling the car, we were putting the parts in, and then staying in the car down the line.
114
And on the days he didn't commute, then he goes there, and then this is a trifold bed, so you collapse it and put it in the trunk.
115
He would sleep in his car to save time.
116
It was tough, man.
117
Dedicated to his work at Tesla, that is until he tried to use his badge at the employee entrance like any other day.
118
This big security guard in his deep voice was like, hey man, sorry.
119
And then he pulled me to the side and I was like, oh, this is not good.
120
And then he's like, hey man, sorry, you've been part of the layoffs.
121
Yeah, you don't work here anymore.
122
Just like that, Murillo was laid off.
123
Around 14,000 other Tesla employees met the same fate that April morning.
124
and now Murillo has to make some tough decisions.
125
Yeah, I gotta sell the house, gotta do what I gotta do to, you know, keep living.
126
A home he bought just two years ago.
127
But Murillo isn't sour towards Tesla.
128
I like the brand, how luxury it looks.
129
I like the camp mode in there.
130
All of that is like, it excites me to, you know, to have worked for the company, yeah.
131
After the house hopefully sells, he says he will go back to living in his car.
132
He says the Tesla door closing has allowed him to follow what he truly wants to do perseverance and grit.
133
Once you have that attitude, the world is endless, right?
134
Murillo will be documenting his journey on YouTube, living in his car, as well as his new job at the GNC inside the Stone Ridge Mall in Pleasanton.
135
He says that it needs a lot of traffic and that anybody can come and say hi.
136
Alright guys, we have KTVU Channel 2 News.
137
He has a big giant camera.
138
Look at that thing.
139
Oh my god.
140
So yeah, so they're here, they interviewed me, a little quick, like a couple minutes, but yeah, kind of cool.
141
Showed them around the car, gave them a little tour.
142
The whole setup over here, pretty dope.
143
But, you know, there's always something good and something great out of something bad.
144
And you can always turn water into wine or you can turn a bad situation into something good.
145
So I was telling my parents, I was like, you know, what if I put this on YouTube?
146
I know I signed an NDA, but if I put this on YouTube, maybe other people will share the same experience you know
147
and I didn't know
148
that a lot of people had had this issue of getting laid off even though they worked at a job
149
that you know they were at and you know you could work
150
so hard at something but still be let go
151
and I didn't know that concept and I
152
and this is very common in like the tech field I
153
didn't know this is my first time getting laid off
154
and um yeah so long story short I we had this meeting with my parents
155
and my little brother because we were living in the 1.2 million dollar house in Lathrop
156
and I was like what do we do you know something's
157
got to go we can't afford this house anymore you know I think we're gonna have to sell
158
so that's what we did in May of 2024 we had to sell our our house
159
so the following month after I got laid off we put
160
the house on the market it got sold in a couple weeks
161
because I ended up being on the news for getting laid off from Tesla
162
and soon the YouTube started growing and but I was
163
so lost I was completely lost I was like you know what I'm just gonna work at GNC again
164
because I had worked there before I just took any job
165
because I was applying I kid you not guys I was
166
applying like for like every job I could Even a target cashier I couldn't even get in.
167
And it was so like, I was so distraught because I had put so much time
168
and effort into a company and to be let go you know and
169
so after you know going to GNC in the storage mall
170
in Pleasanton I started living in the car full-time in my Model Y
171
and I was like you know what this is not that bad
172
but I did have some major difficulty guys i for the life of me couldn't find a gym
173
that was 24 hours i went to 24 hour fitness i thought it was good
174
and it turns out that it was not the best experience there was
175
if i had to tell people like what to do you
176
know before he started living in the car this is what i would tell them
177
because like yeah 24 hour fitness like the showers were really nasty it smelled there was people spraying underneath me
178
and i for the life of me i couldn't do 24 hour fitness
179
So this thing I discovered a van life person on YouTube
180
Anytime Fitness
181
They're franchised They have gyms all across the US And I didn't even know this
182
And also Planet Fitness They have gyms all across the US
183
And you can go in there and shower Some of them are not 24 hours
184
But Anytime Fitness is 24 hours Because you put in a badge right here
185
And you just sign in And I didn't know that And
186
so that's how I shower And use the bathroom
187
and I was like oh this is quite interesting maybe you could do this all across the country you know
188
and so I slowly realized like how bad it actually was in the car
189
when I was living in it in Pleasanton when it got in June
190
because remember it's April May and then now June of 2024
191
and my fridge started overheating it was so hot in the car
192
and like I didn't know that Tesla's had a fridge in the sub trunk like
193
that that just mind-boggled me
194
and then I didn't know there was Dometic water pumps to squirt water
195
and I was like I was like what I was like this exists at REI
196
and so water tank um I didn't know you could have a microwave in a car
197
so I had got a power bank that was strong enough
198
and um you know by Blue Eddy and
199
or EcoFlow that's the time I had it and But now I have Blue Eddy and they're a great sponsor.
200
And I'm able to have a microwave.
201
So microwave, a fridge, water, a bed.
202
I got on Amazon to just cut this.
203
And so all these things I started figuring out on my own.
204
And I had to learn the hard way by doing all of it myself.
205
And hopefully this inspires you to either car camp
206
or to experience what it's like to live in a car
207
because this is this is the caveat this is the turning point
208
when we had that meeting me my little brother
209
and my parents I'll never forget it I'm a super big Excel sheet guy
210
and so when I saw rent electricity gas water garbage eliminated
211
and also got rid of my car note
212
so I didn't have a car payment
213
so I got rid of all the big expenses
214
and started living below my means
215
and I started saving get this $1,500 per month just on a regular GNC job
216
and that's like almost basic entry-level guys and
217
so I started figuring out like wow man you could save
218
a lot of money by just living in a car
219
and you know it's not easy but it's possible and it's doable
220
and I'm telling you guys the other side of like you
221
know living in the car is like savings right saving money right
222
but also experiencing and and living out and enjoying nature
223
and being outside caveat i do stay in a house from the months of november december
224
and january because and and some of february
225
because those are the coldest months of the year
226
and it's really hard to live in the car
227
so um i'll go actually live in it part-time
228
so that's the caveat
229
but you do save a lot of money by living in
230
the car just saying you don't have to do it i'm not telling you
231
but like the experience of living in it full-time is awesome since august of 2024 that's
232
when i quit my my full-time job at gnc
233
and i started doing youtube full-time because all the views
234
and ad revenue
235
and the sponsors started coming in that's pretty much how i started living inside the car
236
and traveling full-time and doing this YouTube channel.
237
All right guys I've been living in my Tesla for the past two years now
238
and one of the things that I really wish I had
239
when I first started living in the car would be a portable camping chair
240
but not any portable camping chair one that's easy to put away easy to carry around
241
but most importantly easy to deploy like takes a couple seconds just to set up.
242
All right fam my front porch is down bad
243
and I need a chair to help me edit these videos while I'm outside.
244
I really like the Overmont camping chairs because it's super compact and it fits right underneath my bed frame.
245
Items that save space is a huge priority for me
246
because it's really cramped inside the car
247
and what I love about the Overmont camping chair is
248
that it's a quick deploy so all you got to do is flick of the wrist and it's set up.
249
It took me less than a minute to set this up
250
and that's what I really like about the Overmont camping chair
251
and this camping chair does more than just having a place to sit.
252
It allows you to connect to nature and especially when reading outside.
253
I believe having the correct environment is going to inspire you to be more creative.
254
Plus I literally hate not having a place to sit especially when there are no chairs in sight.
255
And to put away the camping chair all you got to do is disassemble the fabric and then put the spokes together.
256
It doesn't take that long.
257
It only takes a couple seconds.
258
You fold it like it's a little lumpia and boom it's put away.
259
I'll have a link in the description box below so
260
that way you guys can order your Overmont camping chairs so that way you can enjoy the great outdoors
261
while sitting down because ain't nobody got time to sit on the concrete or you know somewhere else.
262
So thanks overmont for sponsoring today's video and now back to the video.
263
I did feel lost when I had started living in the car, in the Tesla, cause I was constantly traveling in August, right?
264
And so there's this one quote, it says, travel far enough and you meet yourself.
265
And that one really hit me when I read that quote, cause it's like, you start to understand yourself
266
when you start living in a car and start reading tons of books
267
and start you know waking up to nature and hearing birds
268
and like seeing the sunrises and sunsets and
269
and I'm super grateful I've learned gratitude and I've also found God too
270
and you know you're never lonely when you have God that's one thing
271
and you know there's something great about just living nomadically right not having not having a responsibility of a house
272
and just being outside in nature in parking lots
273
or I don't know I really do enjoy it
274
and I hope you guys you know get a chance to you know actually car camp
275
or be outside of nature and overnight camp somewhere
276
which brings me into a segue of where do you actually car camp at right
277
and where do you actually you know where do you actually sleep at
278
and so majority of the places I sleep at is either neighborhoods the 24-hour gyms
279
and you could park at loves to like also truck stops
280
and also rest areas so but a majority of my my sleeping overnight is
281
that like 24-hour gyms and also in neighborhoods like I would park in the neighborhood
282
and then after I'd park in the neighborhood I got to
283
go to the bathroom I just drive two minutes away from the gym
284
and I'll just come back to the neighborhood and just park there
285
and camp there overnight and
286
so that's my strategy I've been doing for the past almost like two years now is exactly
287
that and you know it's not
288
that hard as long as you figure out your rhythm
289
and you look at Google Maps
290
and stuff it helps out a lot I read this one
291
book called the obstacle is the way by Ryan Holliday it's a great book
292
but it says that yeah problems will eventually happen it's not a matter of
293
if ladies and gentlemen it's a matter of when the bad things happen
294
and are you prepared for it right and so
295
when these bad things happen it's okay like just know in the moment
296
that these things will come and go and like this too shall pass right
297
and it's like you know uh your fridge might overheat
298
or like it gets too hot in the car
299
or the um the gym doesn't have a shower actually and
300
so you have to or the gym actually is not 24 hours at planet fitness
301
and you got to go to the next one
302
so these things eventually they happen but it's the mindset
303
that shift of like hey it's okay because you know bad things happen eventually
304
and this is just one of the bad things it's like the highest of the highest
305
and you know the lowest of the lows man
306
and you got to take it all in stride
307
and you know that's that goes on with a lot of athletes right
308
you'll win some games and you'll lose some games and you know
309
if you're a quarterback at a football game you throw an interception are you gonna keep your head down
310
or are you gonna work through it
311
and go on to the next play right or the next drive
312
and it's kind of like that same thing of like I used to play football
313
and you know that's the mindset that you got to have
314
when living in a car it's like next next play mentality right
315
and you know you just got to keep moving forward no
316
matter what no matter what happens to you you got to keep going
317
and you know don't stick your head in the sand
318
if you if it got laid off
319
or you you lost your your job right or like
320
or like you lost a house
321
or you know um something really bad happened to you right
322
it's like okay understand it reflect it's good to understand these emotions
323
and and hold them but don't hold them on too close to where you're stuck right
324
and so that's what I learned is like even like the greats like Taylor Swift she said catch
325
and release right like catch the feeling understand it feel it
326
but then release it right like that's the thing the mentality
327
that I don't a lot of people don't don't think about
328
when living in a car is like that that catch
329
and release mentality right and that you know bad things happen okay let's move on right
330
and so you know that having that attitude
331
and also having an attitude of gratitude like I get to do this you know this is a life
332
that I get to live right and that we only get one life
333
and how do you want to live it right and so
334
my life right now is to inspire to motivate to uplift others to either car camp
335
or to you know live nomadically or just to have the right mindset
336
and I hope you guys like enjoy the videos
337
that I create every single week because I get a chance to motivate
338
and uplift you guys and
339
and I get to be a motivator that's what I've always wanted to do as a supervisor at Tesla
340
as a you know um as a person in football i was like one of the team captains you know
341
and so i was a running back
342
and like you know i i just want to inspire you guys
343
and you know to keep your head up even though things are down
344
but you don't stay there right
345
so i just want to end the video here i know i've been ranting for a long time
346
and i just wanted to give you guys like my story of how started car camping
347
and living nomadically in a car
348
and hopefully you guys get to enjoy you know being outside of nature
349
or go car camping once in a lifetime and
350
if not you know it's okay so I thank you guys for watching
351
and we'll catch you guys in the next video peace
