Pratica di Shadowing: Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 Review: The Audiophile Perspective - Impara a parlare inglese con i video

Creazione lezione...
1
In this video, I'm gonna share my honest Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 review from an audiophile perspective,
2
and how does it stack up against the 25 plus wireless noise-canceling earbuds we've tested to date, focusing on the flagships like the AirPods Pro 3,
3
Sony XM6, Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, and Bose QC Ultra 2.
4
Hey there, if you're new to recordingnow.com, we purchase products with our own money on a mission to build the largest database of headphone and earbud reviews,
5
detailed head-to-head comparisons, and overall rankings to help you make a more informed purchase.
6
Now, this video is a direct result of your comments and your feedback requesting the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 to be reviewed.
7
Now, just for context, being based in the US, Huawei products are not officially allowed to be sold here in the US,
8
so had to jump through some hoops in order to procure this today.
9
So if you guys want to show some support for the effort, if you could take a moment to like the video, hype this video up, and comment below, it really helps to keep funding our mission.
10
So in one of my recent videos, I actually did a four-way shootout between all of these flagship earbuds.
11
And as I'm gearing up to review the AirPods Max 2 this week, I thought it was a perfect time to sneak in my FreeBuds Pro 5 review.
12
How does it stack up against these flagship earbuds?
13
And it's good that I didn't have these earbuds, or else it would have really shaken things up for that video, which is good news for anyone who's interested in these.
14
So real quick, I'm going to throw up on the screen our current scoring criteria for version 1.0 of our wireless earbuds scoring system.
15
We're gonna go through each of these four categories that are weighted differently, and then we're gonna give an overall score at the end of this video.
16
All right, so starting with the first category of comfort and features.
17
The first thing I wanna bring up is the IP57 dust and water resistance rating.
18
So this IP57 rating is one of the higher ones in the class because on average, these are IPX4 like the Sony XM6,
19
but this is matched by the AirPods Pro 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro,
20
which also have IP57, which is a dust certification and submersible into water up to one meter for 30 minutes.
21
Now, one thing I want to bring up, the current state of these earbuds, especially if you live in the US.
22
So the first thing is that on Android, there is not an official Huawei app that is available on the Play Store due to restrictions.
23
So ironically, these are actually less limited on iOS devices, which is probably a first,
24
But the Huawei AI Life app is actually available on iOS and you can completely control these earbuds, update the firmware, which is the first thing I did.
25
Control the noise cancelling, spatial audio, etc. All right, so the next thing I want to talk about is codecs, which I will dive deeper into the impact for the sound quality during the sound quality section.
26
But the first thing is
27
that these have actually access to some of the highest wireless transmission quality due to some proprietary codecs
28
and protocols for Huawei and Huawei devices.
29
So the first thing is the Near Link Star Flash, which is legit master quality lossless audio.
30
This supports a 4.6 megabits per second lossless audio that is 24 bit 96 kilohertz,
31
five times higher than Sony's LDAC and three times higher than the standard CD quality.
32
Now, the difference of this is probably not that noticeable versus your LDAC or AptX Adaptive,
33
but I just thought it was interesting to mention the technology because it is innovative for the class.
34
Next up, we have the L2HC 4.0 CD quality lossless with Huawei devices as well.
35
The L2HC 4.0 codec is developed by Huawei, and this has doubled the bit rate of LDAC.
36
It also supports LDAC.
37
Now, one caveat here is I was not able to test the LDAC because one, I wasn't able to use the Huawei app on Android, but then also for iOS,
38
for some reason, my QSYL QCC dongle pro that I use for LDAC and aptX for iPhone at least was not working.
39
My guess is that
40
because there is no toggle for sound quality to unlock the full high-res audio for the FreeBuds Pro 5, at least for now within the iOS app,
41
the dongle is not able to access it.
42
Lastly, for battery life, this is a little bit on the lower end below average.
43
And the reason why is because there are a lot of settings
44
that you could do for the FreeBuds Pro 5 that can actually drain a lot more battery.
45
So it just depends on the way that you configure this.
46
But with noise canceling on, you should see about five hours on a single charge, 23 hours total with the case.
47
Noise canceling off, 7.5 hours single charge, 35 hours with a case, which is much better.
48
Okay, so for comfort, let's actually bring these out of the case right here.
49
These really reminded me of the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, a mix between these and the AirPods Pro 3.
50
You can see the stem design here on the left of the Huawei.
51
It's a little bit shorter than the Buds 4 Pro, but when you compare the earbud design and that soft silicone ear tip material, they are very similar.
52
They're both some of the most comfortable earbuds that I've tested to date.
53
They don't go that deep into the ear canal and they slide in very easily.
54
The AirPods Pro 3 is another similar design.
55
I think it has a slightly longer stem as well, which is for easier handling.
56
The difference is going to be in the ear tip material
57
Because it is a hybrid memory foam silicone ear tip on the AirPods Pro 3, it's a little bit tougher and not as soft as the pure silicone on the Huawei.
58
So I have the Freebuds Pro 5 just slightly more comfortable than the AirPods Pro 3.
59
Now, the Bose QC Ultra 2 is one of the most comfortable and secure fitting earbuds in the entire class.
60
I do think it's a little bit more ergonomic and definitely having that secure fit is an advantage in the Bose's favor.
61
Now, one earbud that most of these, including the Huawei, has an advantage for comfort is going to be the Sony XM6, which is not really that comfortable.
62
You do have to put a bit of pressure to get these to make a proper seal inside of the ear canal.
63
You do have to press these in
64
because these do use a hybrid memory foam based ear tip that is a little bit tougher than the soft silicone.
65
Once you get the Sony's in there, the comfort is fine, but it's simply not as effortless as the Huawei.
66
So overall for comfort and features, I give the Freebuds Pro 5 a 9.5 out of 10.
67
I do think the battery life could be improved
68
and I would like to see some of these features become more accessible to the U.S customers specifically Android
69
and hopefully the LDAC is able to be unlocked both on Android and iOS as well using a dongle for the U.S customers.
70
Moving on to the second category of noise cancelling performance.
71
Now there's something very interesting about these earbuds.
72
They have a pretty innovative dual engine noise cancelling technology which utilizes the dual drivers to emit anti-noise.
73
Now that's a lot of marketing speak
74
but the reality is this is one of the strongest noise cancelling in the class
75
that I've tested and I was really impressed with these out of the box.
76
Now I'll be honest in my testing the dual engine
77
or the ultra mode for the noise cancelling was a little bit more finicky.
78
It's almost trying to do too much utilizing the dual drivers to emit that anti-noise
79
and try to filter everything out in real time versus some
80
of these more straightforward noise-canceling implementations like the AirPods Pro 3 and the Sony XM6.
81
I actually found a more consistent result
82
or at least less weird side effects like whistling noises utilizing just the general noise-canceling mode.
83
Now, in my four-way shootout of the flagships, I have the AirPods Pro 3, the Sony XM6, and the Bose QC Ultra 2 as the elite tier in the wireless earbud class,
84
and I do think that the Freebuds Pro 5 joins that elite tier.
85
That said, I do still have them slightly below all three of the elite tier at the bottom there, but they are slightly better than the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro,
86
which is pretty good, but focuses on comfort over its pure noise canceling.
87
One of the reasons for this is
88
that using this softer silicone is not as much of a
89
physical seal as using some of those hybrid memory foam ear tips like the Sony XM6 and the AirPods Pro 3.
90
So these are not as soft, but they have advantages when it comes to their passive noise isolation before the noise cancelling is even turned on.
91
Lastly, the transparency mode on all of these flagships is pretty great.
92
They all get the job done for me.
93
So overall, for noise cancelling performance, I give these a 9.0 out of 10.
94
More specifically, I have them between the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro and the AirPods Pro 3, Sony, and Bose.
95
All right, so moving on to the third category of sound quality, where I want to give a little bit more of an
96
audiophile perspective as I did with my Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro video, which people found useful.
97
Now, fresh off reviewing these four back to back to back, the FreeBuds Pro 5 fits conveniently across the spectrum of different sound profiles and sound quality,
98
and it really shakes things up in this segment.
99
But the first thing I want to talk about is that dual driver, dual DAC, dual DSP architecture.
100
So this utilizes an 11 millimeter ultra linear woofer paired with a micro planar tweeter.
101
Now, if that sounds familiar, it's quite similar to the 11 millimeter woofer and planar tweeters found on the Samsung Galaxy Buds 4 Pro.
102
Now, interestingly, my first impressions when listening to this, even without looking at any of the marketing material, which I typically don't do before doing a blind review,
103
I noticed that they had a sound quality or at least sound characteristic that reminded me of the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro.
104
So my initial thought was that these are probably a dual driver simply
105
because the way that the bass response comes across coupled with the detail in the high end, the treble, it reminded me of the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro.
106
Now, my first impression of the FreeBuds Pro 5 was very strong.
107
Starting with the sound profile, this is a neutral, bright, slightly bass forward and slightly V-shaped.
108
And it sits perfectly across this class because it's somewhere in between the Sony XM6's warm, neutral, darker sound profile and the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro,
109
which is more V-shaped, consumer friendly, bass and treble forward.
110
This is kind of like the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, but it actually has the mids like the Sony XM6.
111
It's probably most similar to the AirPods Pro 3,
112
although they have different ways they come across due to the dual driver versus single driver architecture of the AirPods Pro 3.
113
The FreeBuds Pro 5 basically fixes my critique of the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, which I thought was just a little bit too V-shaped, a little bit recessed in the mids for my taste.
114
And it actually fills out those mids and has a better, more realistic timbre for vocals and instruments.
115
Now, it's not as good as the Sony XM6, which I think has the best mids in the class, but it does make up for it a little bit because
116
that 11mm woofer delivers a ton of base quantity that reminds me of the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro.
117
Now, those micro planar tweeters deliver a ton of treble detail.
118
So when you put everything together, this actually has one of the more balanced tonalities in the class.
119
It's between this and the Sony XM6, although I slightly lean towards the XM6, which is even more neutral, more accurate.
120
It's almost like a fun version of the Sony XM6.
121
Now, I was talking about the high res codecs, and I was not able to test this with LDAC
122
or any of the higher codecs and protocols with a specific Huawei device, and probably if you live outside the US.
123
But when it comes to that technical sound quality, I do have these higher than the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, the AirPods Pro 3, and the Bose QC Ultra 2.
124
And it starts to get towards that Sony XM6.
125
Now, listening back to back, even without LDAC activated for the XM6, I still do give the slight edge when it comes to the detail.
126
And I do prefer the more neutral, balanced, warmer, and accurate sound profile of the XM6.
127
I think where you can expose the FreeBuds Pro 5 is on rock
128
and metal tracks because they lack warmth and they have a peaky treble that can get sibilant.
129
Now, interestingly, this sibilance is not something that I notice in other genres, except for the busier rock and metal tracks,
130
because there's a lot going on in the 7K region.
131
And that's where I would say the Freebuds Pro 5 sounded the worst.
132
But pretty much for every other genre, including classical, I was just noticing some very beautiful detail,
133
better, more realistic timbre than something like the Samsung and the AirPods Pro 3.
134
And really, when you consider its price, which we'll get into in the next category, it's up there with the Sony XM6.
135
Now, I still have the Sony's edging these out.
136
But in the future, if I were able to test these in their fullest sound quality, that might just give it the edge to match the XM6 when it comes to the sound quality.
137
So overall, I give these an 8.5 out of 10 for sound quality, which which is higher than the Samsung, the AirPods Pro 3 and the Bose QC Ultra 2,
138
but slightly below the XM6 and the audiophile tier of wireless earbuds, such as the Technics AZ-100, Noble Focus Rex 5, Satus Pro X,
139
Bowers & Wilkins PI 8, and Deenon Pearl Pro.
140
Oh, and Soundpeats H3.
141
All right, so moving on to the category of value.
142
So currently, these are priced at $220 USD.
143
They're surprisingly available on Amazon in the US through a third-party seller, but obviously not directly from Huawei.
144
Now, I want to ask you viewers, if you are international, what is the price ideally in USD
145
that you were able to get these for or how much are they going for in your country?
146
I'm really curious because I was getting mixed numbers when I was doing my research.
147
Not to mention there are some coupons
148
and discounts currently just like they do have for the launch of the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro.
149
So if you could just share the price you got them for that would be really interesting.
150
So when it comes to price right now the market price of the AirPods Pro 3 can range from under $200
151
which in my long-term review that I just did they're available for $199 on Amazon.
152
But typically the market price is around $229.
153
The retail is $249.
154
The Sony XM6 is $329, the most expensive of the flagships and $100 more expensive than the FreeBuds Pro 5.
155
Galaxy Buds 4 Pro just released $249 retail, but these should go on sale, especially later this year.
156
And then the Bose QC Ultra 2 retails for $299, sometimes on sale, maybe down to $249.
157
So really we're looking at this and the AirPods Pro 3, sometimes the AirPods Pro 3 is under $200.
158
It is the cheapest of the flagships.
159
But when we think about the market price, they're typically matched with each other.
160
Now, I have to be honest here.
161
The Freebuds Pro 5 essentially takes some of the best qualities of all of the flagship earbuds
162
and puts it into a single product that is over $100 cheaper than the Sony XM6, while having competitive noise-canceling performance,
163
sound quality, and better comfort.
164
In my last video, the long-term review of the AirPods Pro 3, when I saw that they were under $200, I actually bumped up their value score to a 9.5 out of 10.
165
But looking at the FreeBuds Pro 5, which has better sound quality than the AirPods Pro 3, is around the same price and is cheaper than the Galaxy Buds 4 Pro,
166
but it's pretty much better in almost every single way.
167
I'm giving the FreeBuds Pro 5 a rare 10 out of 10 value score.
168
So rounding up all the scores overall, I give the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 5 an 8.9 out of 10,
169
which is one of the highest scores we've given out for a wireless earbud to date.
170
Now, there is that caveat.
171
If you are in the US, these are one, a little bit trickier to get your hands on.
172
And two, they're not actually officially supported, especially if you're on Android.
173
I will say I did test these listening to them on Android, just hooked up to the Bluetooth, no app, no customizations, nothing.
174
They still sound great in their stock default form.
175
So they're still completely usable.
176
They're just not fully customizable versus iOS in the US, which you can actually update the firmware and access all of the settings other than the LDAC,
177
which iOS does not support out of the box anyways, but I also wasn't able to access it using my dongle.
178
So that is quite an interesting caveat, but if you're willing to put up with that,
179
you have one of the best overall packages for the money in the wireless earbud market currently.
180
All right, if you enjoy this video or found it useful.
181
If you could take a moment to hit the like button and hype this video up, it goes a long way to help support our small channel.
182
If you have any questions about any of these earbuds
183
or share your experience with the FreeBuds Pro 5 versus any of these other earbuds or how are you liking them, please leave it in the comments below.
184
I try to get back to as many people as possible.
185
If you want to go the extra mile to help support our channel, because everything is pretty much funded by you, the audience, through your support,
186
consider using our affiliate links in the video description.
187
Again, I have a link to these where you can actually get them on Amazon in the US.
188
Another way you can support is visiting our website, recordingnow.com, using it as a resource to do your research and compare the different earbuds and headphones.
189
That also goes a long way.
190
Lastly, if you love audio as much as we do, make sure to subscribe.
191
We have a ton more content on the way, including the AirPods Max 2 very soon.
192
And if you want to keep watching, I'm going to link a relevant video here to shoot out between these four earbuds
193
and a playlist below so you can make a more informed purchase.
194
Thanks for watching and happy listening.

Ad esempio, "gonna share" (invece di "going to share") o "it's a perfect time" dove "it's a" si fonde in "it'sa".
