1
Well, they finally did it!
2
A foldable iPhone.
3
This is iPhone Duo.
4
And I know exactly what you're gonna say, because I have been reading all of the comments.
5
Samsung already did it!
6
Duolingo!
7
What about the Surface Duo?
8
Like, none of you are wrong, but there have been so many foldable, flippables, accordion-style phones, that it really was only a matter of time until Apple joined.
9
And I've said it before, when Apple does usually finally do something, they always go above and beyond to make it something for the masses, and something that actually works,
10
that is beautiful, and is unlike anything that you've seen before.
11
Now first, my only complaint is that they called it the Duo.
12
Cause I was kind of like so set on the iPhone Ultra name or Fold.
13
I just feel like that there's no way that I would have named it that, knowing how closely it feels to the Surface Duo, which is a device that I really loved so much.
14
And it kind of has like a special place in my heart.
15
Everything about that little folding phone felt incredible.
16
And it's just so unfortunate that it did not get a longer life.
17
I also think that the rumors of it being called an ultra was
18
so ingrained in my brain that that's what I thought it was gonna be called.
19
But when you really think about it, like that name doesn't quite fit what this device is.
20
An ultra device to me would be something that's more powerful than an iPhone 18 Pro Max, which this is not, but it is really cool.
21
Also, this isn't the first time that Apple has named something Duo.
22
You may or may not remember this, but this is the PowerBook Duo back in the 90s, or some of you might not know because you weren't born yet.
23
Now, I can't say that I've tried every foldable phone that's currently out there, but I have used almost every one of the folds and flips from Samsung.
24
And they've done such an incredible job in this space and I love their devices.
25
So getting hands on with the new Duo didn't really feel like a new form factor to me, but what was so shocking,
26
to see just iOS fold up right in the palm of your hands.
27
And the first time that I got my hands on it after, no joke, running out of the Steve Jobs Theater,
28
directly after the announcement, it unfolded and I saw that nano texture display.
29
I did a little swipe, all of the familiar icons and just the seamless transitions from the open to the close and I was just like, they freaking did it.
30
Just to go back a little bit, there actually was people running.
31
Like, I mean, they were pushing, shoving, people were losing their minds.
32
It was like a frenzy during this hands-on and it wasn't like anything I've ever seen.
33
It kind of reminded me of when I was in Japan and we did like koi fish feeding and they're just, oh, there goes my phone.
34
So during the hands-on, we got some demos of Netflix and they showed how they're integrating this half fold position.
35
So it lets you watch the content and then the controls orientate themselves right down here at the bottom.
36
I also really like this in the camera interface, there's a dual view option.
37
So when you turn that on, someone taking your photo can then see themselves in the front.
38
I touched on the nanotexture display, but I think this was such a great choice.
39
Not only because it cuts down on the glare, but it almost masks the crease entirely.
40
It's weird because on camera, you can kind of see it, but when you actually have this thing and you're just staring at it and it's right in your face,
41
you really don't see it at all.
42
You can feel it a little bit when you run your finger over the middle, and that's kind of like where the hinge closes, but the matte display, it makes it nearly invisible.
43
The other cool thing is it supports Apple Pencil, USB-C version.
44
The Duo does not have the ability to charge an Apple Pencil like an iPad.
45
And I guess they probably didn't want to assume that you would have an iPad to charge, even though that is very Apple.
46
So only the USB-C Apple Pencil will work with it.
47
Now, if you missed any of the specs on the Duo, the display when it's unfolded is a 7.6 inch inner display.
48
And when it's closed, it's a 5.4 inch outer display.
49
It's cool because both the displays share kind of like the same aspect ratio.
50
So when you open it, the content scales seamlessly.
51
I was also really excited that they did an under display FaceTime and front facing camera.
52
So there's no dynamic Island.
53
So it's just a super seamless display.
54
When you have it open, the hinge is made from grade five titanium with a mirror polish finish with a hundred plus components, ceramic shield two on the front.
55
And it has an IP68 reading.
56
There's touch ID on the side.
57
And since it's so thin, there was no room for a face ID.
58
It has a dual battery setup for up to 31 hours of video on the inner display or 44 on the outer.
59
It also supports MagSafe, which was a surprising addition.
60
Unfortunately, we do have a little time to wait.
61
The Duo is out October 23rd with pre-orders on October 16th.
62
And it is definitely an expensive device starting in $19.99 for 256 gigs of storage, and it will go up to two terabytes.
63
So what are you guys gonna do?
64
Well, thank you guys for watching.
65
I cannot wait to get my hands on all of these devices and do some reviews for you.
66
If you have any suggestions on things you'd like to see, we'll leave in the comments below.
67
Do we still subscribe?
68
Does it even matter?
69
If you want to subscribe, feel free if you don't want to.
70
Hopefully the algorithm will bring you back.
71
I'll see you guys in the next video.
72
Bye.
73
Happy iPhone season.

  • Set on: Deciso/a su. "Ero deciso sul nome iPhone Ultra".
  • Ingrained in my brain: Radicato nel cervello.
  • Hands on: Pratico.
  • Cut down on: Ridurre.
