That's why we decided to go to Essen. Our friends were in Essen.

We're going to meet them and explore the city and the surrounding area a bit. So come along and learn some German words and expressions in this everyday vlog.

It takes less than an hour and a half by train from Cologne to Essen.

And the route is really beautiful. You travel along the stunning Rhine.

We arrived in Essen, and our friends dropped us off at Essen Central Station.

We started with some delicious ice cream so we'd have enough energy for the evening and our little walk. By the way, the colors of the chairs in that café were totally cute. There were so many different flavors of ice cream: banana, chocolate, nuts, walnut, sour cream, strawberry, pomegranate, and much more.

Then we arrived in Werden. A district with a really special atmosphere.

It looked like something out of a German fairy tale.

There were also small galleries, cafés, and beautiful boutiques everywhere.

And after just a short walk, we suddenly found ourselves in the middle of this dreamlike nature.

There were so many adorable geese that had recently given birth, and the little goslings stayed right next to their mothers the whole time. They were simply incredibly cute.

It's very beautiful and peaceful here.

I love watching animals. Their movements fascinate me. Look how he's jumping underwater here.

Near the peaceful spot, we saw what's called a fish lift. A fish lift is a system that helps fish get past dams or other obstacles in the water. Many fish species have to swim upstream, but dams often block their way.

With a fish lift, the fish are transported up or down so they can continue their journey. I find it really fascinating that there are such systems in Germany for the protection of nature and the river ecosystem.

This area is on the Ruhr, one of the most natural and beautiful rivers in Germany.

By the way, these are the fish species that live in this river: burbot, barbel, perch, roach, salmon, flounder, eel, bullhead, bream, and brown trout. And these are the leaves of water lilies. Very beautiful.

We saw many boats on the river and along the banks.

One of the funny things our dog does when we hold her over the water is that she immediately starts swimming.

But if you like to spend your free time actively, there are tons of options here. There's also a really nice beach, but unfortunately, we're not allowed to bring our dog. There's also a golf course and some really good bike paths.

Yes, all these activities are possible here. You can play soccer, table tennis, archery, or, well, go for a nice walk. But many people come here mainly for boating.

During our walk, we came to this part of the river and saw that there were kayaks everywhere. Lots of people had gathered and were cheering on the athletes.

There's a competition going on here. Just like that, out of the hand. Yes, then we realized that today was competition day and participants from all over Germany had come to compete against each other.

Honestly, paddling for a long time must be incredibly tiring.

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to explore the town itself today, but it looks beautiful. Most of the sights here are more natural areas, though.

Our friends said we absolutely had to stop by here because this park is so lovely.

You can barbecue here, and people were picnicking everywhere. The smell of grilled food was in the air. Children were playing everywhere, and the atmosphere was so cheerful.

Then we finally arrived at our friends' lovely home. They have a really beautiful garden, and Pani loves this place anyway.

Having good friends after migrating is truly a gift.

This garden was perfect for playing with Pani. I wish we had a garden too. Um, I unfortunately forgot her toys, so I just threw her leash, and she brought it back every time. I think that's almost every dog's favorite game. Pani, at least, is absolutely crazy about it.
