シャドーイング練習: How to Shadow CORRECTLY (Most Learners Do It Wrong) - 動画で英語スピーキングを学ぶ

レッスンを作成中...
1
Shadowing is an amazing method to improve speaking, but if you do it wrong, you are risking, well, just wasting your time.
2
Today I'll show you how to shadow efficiently depending on your current English level.
3
And trust me, I've seen and I've heard thousands of English learners say, I shadow every day but I still can't speak.
4
Well, the problem is not with you, you are not the problem, it's just you might be doing it a bit wrong.
5
And towards the end of this video I'll share one critical mistake
6
that could potentially turn shadowing into passive listening and how to avoid it forever.
7
Now let's get one thing clear, shadowing is never about repeating perfectly.
8
Shadowing is about training rhythm, sentence flow, pronunciation, and your confidence in real time.
9
So in a way you are simply teaching your mouth to move before your brain has a chance to react or interfere.
10
Because you know this is where all the translating starts and things get messy.
11
That's what shadowing is for.
12
So here's how you can shadow if you are just starting out.
13
If you are a beginner.
14
So first you want to make sure you choose short clips.
15
The source material needs to be short.
16
Don't overwhelm yourself with a lot of stuff all at once.
17
and, you know, repeat a lot of things that you don't even understand or know.
18
Some of it is good and healthy, but don't do too much.
19
So pick short clips, you know, five to ten seconds, just a couple of sentences, a couple of expressions.
20
Make sure you control the speed.
21
Like if you go on YouTube, you can change the speed of the video and slow it down just a bit by maybe 0.75 and then pause,
22
repeat, go back, pause, repeat, go back, try to say it at the same time, really shadow.
23
And here you want to focus on not just mindlessly saying stuff, but you want to really, really focus on sounds.
24
You want to focus on stress and how the words move through the sentence and what it sounds like.
25
And you honestly just want to copy without trying to understand everything everything
26
and if it feels uncomfortable that's good that means you're on the right path
27
so just keep going
28
if you are around the intermediate level area b1 b2 now
29
you want to shadow full sentences of course you don't want to pause too much
30
and you want to try to be
31
one to two seconds behind the speaker so not listen
32
and repeat and not try to do it at the same time
33
but with a slight delay
34
and here you want to focus on linking words you want
35
to focus on connection connecting those things just like the speaker does in the video or content
36
that you're shadowing you also want to focus on intonations how
37
the speaker does it how they might be playing around with
38
their voice what kind of intonations they're using rising rising or falling and you want to focus on speed.
39
You want to match, try to match as closely as possible.
40
Here you're training fluency and not perfection.
41
Now for the advanced level, C1 and up, you want to take it to the next level for sure.
42
And this is not just shadowing, it goes well beyond just simply shadowing.
43
First of all, of course, you want to listen to, you know, real conversations, interviews, podcasts, something much longer.
44
And you want to make sure you do two things in addition to just simply shadowing.
45
First you shadow, then you pause and you paraphrase in your own words.
46
Oh yeah, I know it might be crazy, but this is exactly what you need right now.
47
So for example, if the source material says something like, it's not feasible at the moment, right?
48
You're going to shadow that it's not feasible at the moment.
49
Then you're going to paraphrase in your own words.
50
I don't think it's possible right now.
51
I don't think we can do it right now.
52
Something like that.
53
Then you want to do it again and respond with your own idea.
54
We're taking it to the next level because you deserve it.
55
I don't think this is feasible at the moment.
56
Well, okay, I was just wondering if we could afford it or not, but I guess you made it very clear.
57
Something like that.
58
It doesn't have to be exactly this, but you know what I mean.
59
And with shadowing, you are training the flow
60
and obviously you're doing all the things
61
that you need to make sure you are letting your mouth do the work before your brain kicks in.
62
And with these paraphrasing and reacting in your own words things, you are slowly incorporating that,
63
you know, thinking mechanism and introducing it back into the routine.
64
But here's the thing, just shadowing obviously is not enough because when you're shadowing, you also want to be able to build sentences and speak
65
and obviously know what you're shadowing the higher you get in terms of your level.
66
And here in LinguaTrip we have everything you need.
67
If you are just starting out and you're looking for that boost of confidence, but also structure and things that will definitely make sense for you going forward
68
so you can build a very solid foundation without having to go back and revisit
69
and fill the gaps down the line we have from elementary to intermediate this is a great way to start
70
and this is an amazing course
71
that we absolutely love next we have from intermediate to advanced
72
if you're already there and if you're stuck a little
73
and you feel like you know you have to work a bit harder but it's still not working, that means you need to reset.
74
You need to restructure your approach and you need to try something new.
75
And this is what we're all about here at An Immediate to Advanced.
76
And if you feel like you're generally OK, but you're still lacking that confidence because you don't feel like the English
77
that comes out of your mouth matches your expectations in terms of sounds.
78
And when you record yourself and you listen back, you cringe a little bit.
79
We have pronunciation hacking where we focus on flow, specific sounds, intonations, all of those connections and how to link words together,
80
all those native style reductions and shortcuts that help you sound more native, natural, and fluent.
81
And this is for your confidence so that you enjoy the sound of your English every time you speak.
82
I'm going to leave all those links in the description box down below, so whatever you need right now, choose that, and I hope to see you there.
83
Now, remember, shadowing is not obviously a fix all solution,
84
but you want to make sure you do it properly using the things
85
that I told you about in this video and a couple of core reminders.
86
Don't try to do shadowing while you're multitasking.
87
You want to focus all of your attention on what you're doing when you're shadowing.
88
So try to set aside a few minutes, a few minutes a day to do that.
89
Don't shadow while reading the subtitles only
90
because you want to make sure you understand the context
91
and the facial expressions and the body language too because those nonverbal things are also a big part of interpersonal communication.
92
And don't shadow while trying to be passive.
93
You know, listening is a separate thing.
94
You are here to repeat and get your mouth working.
95
So make sure you are not passively just sitting back
96
and letting it just enter your mind or your ears without actually doing something.
97
So stand up or sit up, speak out loud confidently, and make sure you really, really focus.
98
and you know try to match the source material as closely as possible
99
and sometimes even exaggerate a little bit you know it's very it's it's much easier to go 200 first
100
and then dial it back down then slowly try to build
101
up speaking is physical whether you like to admit it
102
or not and it can be trained and you have to train it
103
because fluency is not about talent it's about correct repetition
104
over time consistently and shadowing if it's done right
105
and combined with everything else really helps you get there faster than anything else
106
so yeah thank you guys
