1
come in welcome to my abode
2
what's up guys welcome to if i may say
3
so a long -awaited apartment tour we are here in brooklyn this is two bed two bath i've taken a
4
while to get it in a livable homey place where i
5
feel comfortable showing it to you guys lived here for six months
6
so it's been a minute without further ado let's start off where the magic happens the kitchen
7
architectural digest great first thing i guess i'd like to point out we have an induction stove top the first
8
that i've ever had and i made the mistake of bringing over my old pots
9
and pans they don't work on induction you have to have
10
induction grade pans come over here we have some fun little
11
details sir salt it's our oh i just think this is
12
the cutest little container i got this recently actually both of
13
these we have a really cute kitchenware store near us
14
and that's where i got these things it's pretty adult
15
if you ask me a spoon rest come on for the
16
first like five months of living here i just we just put it here
17
and had to clean it every time it also matches pretty
18
well okay come on over here sink farmhouse variety i know
19
you guys are thinking about it right like this thing 46
20
for hand soap taylor you're not in reality anymore you guys
21
should know we had a really awesome sub letter who's a friend of mine she came
22
and saved for a few weeks and left a few things behind
23
that she thought we could use the aesop soap being one of them
24
so very nice thank you gabby gabby's her name she's great
25
okay moving over here we have my favorite food of all
26
time i like to have a constant supply just to be
27
eaten whenever i want moving over here you guys psa lilies
28
are extremely toxic to cats not going to go into too much detail on how i know
29
that but let's just say i was very recently in an emergency vet clinic
30
when i was supposed to be at a wedding last weekend
31
so don't buy lilies
32
if you have cats we don't have cats though it's not
33
a problem moving over here you might think this is just a really really large
34
nice built -in pantry for our dry goods cereal
35
and such wrong my oh i didn't even say i live
36
here with a roommate i live here with one other roommate
37
and we eat pretty much the same exact thing
38
so we have zero percent fat 19 gram protein greek yogurt on tap this makes me laugh you know
39
that viral feta tomato recipe we made that the other night tasty
40
but it looks so disgusting like it looks like coagulated rotten
41
but it tastes good just wanted to throw
42
that out there we have these bowls
43
which i've always wanted kind of like a heavy stoneware bet you can't guess where they're from
44
um they're from castlery phoenicia diner that's a place that my roommate
45
and i went to for valentine's day one year
46
because it was probably one of the best cinnamon rolls we've ever had
47
and i wanted to commemorate tea for turtle real ones know huntsman that's what that's program i was in college.
48
Moving here, a friend of mine, his dad actually handcrafted this in Canada.
49
I just think it's really pretty to look at.
50
I will link his website down below as well if you guys want to check those out.
51
All right, moving over here before we get to the living room.
52
This is one of my favorite places in the apartment, low -key.
53
So I've had this display shelf from Castlery.
54
By the way, Castlery is going to come up in this apartment tour more than a few times
55
because their furniture is bomb so i've had this for a
56
while you guys might recognize it gosh from my first apartment into my last one in east village
57
and now here i really like the kind of geometric design
58
but to go over some of the fun things on it my bambino i need to take a breath
59
i'm too too wired up trusty trusty machine he does me well every single morning i absolutely love him
60
and honestly we were just talking about this last night i
61
can't imagine not being able to make really really good coffee from your house
62
if you like coffee and i have that
63
because of bambino i also have breville grinder taylor's coffee hobby
64
that's sort of this row moving down up here there's just
65
so many fun little personal trinkets my brother's girlfriend this year
66
for christmas got us all customized to what our personality is
67
or what things we like she got me tomato ornament
68
so we keep that right there picture of me
69
and my roommate at a wedding hanging out i like to display the beans
70
that i'm using right now it's ethiopian beans medium roast this was the last bag
71
that we used this is our favorite coffee in texas where
72
my roommate is from the mystery is coming together
73
and i think it's kind of cute to display for a
74
little bit up there this is a cup from rwanda
75
that my roommate bought me and it's really really cool it's handcrafted it's got a lot of nice texture to it
76
and i like to look at it
77
so he stays up there turtle obviously there's a lot of
78
turtles in this apartment i think hawaii i can't remember where
79
i got this one though now we can move into the living room.
80
What?
81
Oh, yeah, okay.
82
And one more very important thing before we move into the living room, if you'll come up with me here.
83
This is a custom embroidery piece done by a friend of ours.
84
Some of you guys definitely recognize this bar.
85
It's the Montelione in New Orleans.
86
It's so fun to look at.
87
If you kind of get in there in the details, you can see every little stitch.
88
It's so impressive.
89
And the sequins and the shading.
90
And moving over here before the living room, a few fun things.
91
This is a hand -blown glass bowl from someone with very good taste.
92
You know who you are.
93
And I keep all my matchbooks in there that we get from weddings and restaurants and so on and so forth.
94
And now we move into the living room.
95
Oh God, I keep forgetting.
96
If you have a limited space under the sink, which is where most people put their trash cans and you want like a 13 gallon trash can.
97
So you actually are not taking it out every two seconds, highly recommend this solution that my roommate and I conjured up.
98
Look at that.
99
Full -size trash can.
100
It's a bunch of coffee grounds.
101
I think this is a great solution.
102
I'm especially happy with this.
103
And now officially moving into the dining room let's go open
104
the door come on in it was locked for a sec
105
okay this is the dining room we had to travel far
106
and wide to get here from the kitchen we my roommate
107
and i have sort of accidentally curated this western theme which i'm really happy about starting with this picture of
108
of us in moab utah the oranges the woods the warm colors
109
and that sort of translated once we got the table
110
and the chairs we got wood we got chestnutty browns
111
and it's kind of actually more cohesive than i think we were expecting something about this table
112
that i really like is
113
that it extends it's from castlery you could have guessed all of this is the tables the chairs
114
but it extends so when we have more people than six can open it up
115
and we can take this for years to come in other spaces where the status quo is
116
that it can be in its longer form
117
which is great we also over here have a bench like two people can sit here
118
which we did yesterday we had some people over
119
and we were just eating baked goods
120
and then there's storage underneath in there too moving over here we have a pumpkin
121
that has been here for almost six months my friend lauren got it for me
122
when we very first moved in
123
and it's not rotten at all for those who are wondering
124
we'll see how much longer it has moving in to the living room
125
all right this is the living room just off of the of the dining room I would say
126
that among others the most notable thing is that there is storage
127
which is pretty awesome my mom would be happy about this we keep the tools
128
that we use the most right here you'd be surprised how much we use like a drill
129
and a screwdriver on a day -to -day but especially our favorite thing to use
130
handheld vacuum storage it's where we keep our extra linens towels for people
131
that come and stay it's pretty awesome this is the agnes couch you can remove the covers
132
and put them in the washing machine so anyways really really love this couch
133
and this ottoman moving on to the details we have floating shelf
134
that we've had there for a long time i've tried to
135
curate what i think looks like a well -balanced selection of
136
items here we have it's a book about like the whole
137
history of new york on top of it another turtle this
138
one is from uganda a gift from a friend orchid
139
that my roommate got me for valentine's day
140
and then we have this pot that we recently got i think this is one of our favorite purchases of late.
141
So then over here, another toil.
142
This one is like a ceramic toil that moves around.
143
This one's from Korea, also a gift.
144
I gifted a lot of turtles.
145
Next, last thing I'll say about this space is the sconces.
146
I think they're really great.
147
What I like about them the most is these wire covers.
148
The wires were just hanging loose before and until a few days ago.
149
It's one of those things where it's like, I wish I did that sooner.
150
They're so easy.
151
You just stick them on the wall and it keeps things in place
152
and you can cut them too so I'll probably do some more of
153
that down here looks great
154
if you ask me two lips all right moving in we have the hallway
155
but first we have the first bathroom come on in washer
156
dryer washer dryer moving in here we have the shower this is the one
157
that my roommate uses in the morning so as to not wake me up when I'm still sleeping, which is very nice.
158
I have only used it a few times.
159
What I've used it for more is the ice baths.
160
When I was training for the marathon, I'd come put ice in here, sit down for 15 minutes and call it a day.
161
All right, moving into the hallway again.
162
First, you might notice that we have this nice long runner rug.
163
Once again, cultivating that sort of Western vibe that we're going for.
164
My roommate's one of his movie posters and it covers the circuit breaker box.
165
Fun, smart, ingenuity.
166
All right, moving into the hallway closet.
167
This is a bit of an eyesore for our apartment, I'm not going to lie.
168
We have his and hers, roommates and my shoe compartments.
169
We have our winter jackets and a few more shoes.
170
Yeah, not the prettiest closet.
171
All right, let's move into the second bedroom or the office.
172
That's kind of what we use it for most of the time.
173
There's so many fun things in here.
174
First of all, we have a rug, castlery, obviously.
175
Moving over here, guys, I've had this guy since my first apartment it's crazy I've had a lot of this
176
and just kept it with me castlery armchair
177
and then this this is pretty cool you guys
178
so first of all favorite desk chair I've ever had
179
and probably like I don't see myself getting a different one
180
for a very long time I finally retired the old white one
181
that I had for years and this one you guys you're just sitting like a king
182
when you're in this thing like I oh
183
that actually needs to be higher so this has a little pillow for neck support.
184
You're going to dress it up and down.
185
I'm not going to do that right now because it's set to my specs that I like.
186
What's this, you might ask?
187
sanding disc that's pretty awesome over here we have my new york city marathon medal yay
188
books that i have
189
that we have read my most recent reads i'll tell you real quick pachinko
190
and john steinbeck's east of eden a classic
191
and a freaking epic multi -generational family tale they actually both are similar genre in
192
that sense these have been two of my favorite books
193
that i've ever read
194
and i will link them both below moving over here i
195
love you m who's m you might wonder it's my mom
196
this is a huge walk -in closet oh my god this you guys arguably crown jewel of certainly of this room.
197
This right here is a Murphy bed, obviously.
198
So we debated for a long time about whether to do like a pullout couch.
199
There's just a lot of different options you can do
200
when you're trying to host and like sleep someone else in the second bedroom.
201
We wanted to be able to use it normally most of the time as like an office.
202
And if you have a bed in here, you can see it quite literally takes up the whole entire room.
203
This is a queen bed.
204
This is my roommate's old bed.
205
We've already hosted people for a cumulative probably two months, and we've lived here for six months, so that's pretty good.
206
I'm going to put it back up.
207
Yay!
208
Finally, let's move on to the primary suite.
209
Welcome!
210
Welcome to the primary suite.
211
This is where the magic happens oh this is probably one of my favorite things actually about the bedroom
212
which is that we have dogs
213
that each of us grew up with this is my roommates this is mine
214
if you guys watch my videos you know this is mine
215
he makes an appearance in most videos even though he lives in california
216
so huh they okay i have two of let's clear this up right now i have two dogs who i love
217
equally but one of them i just have like a really really close bond with
218
and so i mention him more but i have two
219
and they're just the sweetest creatures in the entire world here they are right now oh my god willie
220
and biscuit willie i carried him home on my lap i have a theory i'm curious
221
if you guys agree that whoever has the dog the little baby dog on the lap after
222
when you get him like you're bound to him forever him
223
or her curious if you guys have had
224
that experience all right moving into more details
225
so this is a new plant that we got it's a fiddle leaf fig
226
and you guys i get the plant thing now i think for
227
so long i was like just buy fake ones
228
and you don't have to worry about it and they look nice
229
but we now have live plants and it's actually really really nice
230
so this is pothos plant
231
and his name we changed it recently from pokey to perkins
232
perkins is more fitting we think his name is eduardo moving over all the way over here
233
this is our bed once again we have the western vibe
234
my dad actually took this photo this is Bryce Canyon in Utah.
235
These are called hoodoos.
236
So this is a really cool picture to me because it has a sort of confusing depth of field and perspective almost.
237
It kind of looks like a full -size human would be this big, but a full -size human is like that big.
238
So you can't tell how big they are unless you've been there, which I think makes it sort of a cool photo and just also one of my favorite places in the world.
239
Okay, now we can move over to the bookshelf.
240
also got a question for you guys i wouldn't go
241
so far to say it's an eyesore
242
but it's we're figuring out the spatial design of it because there's just sort of a lot going on with different
243
frames and sizes and items and
244
so we'll take suggestions on what you guys think might be the best way to arrange this
245
but absolutely love the bookshelf itself love that it's wood and marble
246
so directly ties into the style of the kitchen as well
247
sort of on accident also from castlery we have my plaque
248
placky during my first move in new york the the letters rubbed off here
249
which is a bummer but you know he's got character I guess.
250
100 ,000 survivors.
251
Get the gold one soon like and subscribe.
252
This is my roommate and I.
253
That's us at Sisyphus in Berlin
254
which was probably one of the most fun days of the year last year that we had.
255
It's a good time.
256
Down here we have some coffee table books that are they're pretty awesome.
257
So beginning down here this is Jimmy Chin's book There and Back.
258
Just really really stunning beautiful mountainous imagery.
259
This is an aircraft book, The Definitive Visual History of Aircraft.
260
I got this as a gift from my high school.
261
I got this award when I graduated, and they give you a personalized gift for an interest of yours.
262
Yeah, aviation runs extremely deep in my blood, in my family, and so that's the book I got, which is really special to me.
263
And then we have two books here by different photographers, but they're both published by Steidl, Steidl in German.
264
He is a super, super cool publisher.
265
He's very picky about the projects and photography and things that he chooses to publish.
266
It's all done in Germany, right?
267
Yeah.
268
And just has like a very, very meticulous process and specific way that he likes to do things.
269
So the second that we saw a Seidel book in a bookstore, we bought it.
270
It was this one.
271
And then I bought my roommate this one because I thought the pictures were neat.
272
And then this watering pot, it might look decorative, but this is actually the pot that we use to water our plant friends, but we just keep them here normally.
273
And sometimes I use this
274
when take my magnesium at night i literally use it to water myself yeah
275
and it works like you can be
276
so precise you can just do a little bit it's kind
277
of fun moving over here this is taylor's closet open it
278
up not too much to see here these are kind of
279
fun these are my moccasins from canada my canadian family got them for me for christmas a couple years ago
280
and it's kind of the softest thing you could ever put
281
on your foot they're amazing they're very warm too oh
282
and then my gym bag which is just my trader joe's bag
283
but if you enjoy working out and you do pull days like pull -ups
284
and lat pull -downs and such
285
and deadlifts like things where you really are using your grip
286
for heavy things these lifting straps are a game changer wrap it around the the thing you grab it
287
and then you don't have to rely on your grip pulling
288
all the weight you can like just use your back it's awesome
289
so if you're a gym rat highly recommend if you don't already have these All right.
290
Just a personal passion.
291
Don't mind me.
292
Let's go into the primary bathroom.
293
Hampers.
294
His and hers.
295
I love this bathroom.
296
You might be thinking again, Taylor, Aesop, what's going on?
297
You're not relatable anymore.
298
I did buy this one, but only for market research.
299
I made a whole video about it.
300
It'd be crazy if I didn't buy one.
301
This is kind of the shower of our dreams to totally
302
honest got the the rain what's it called rain shower well what's this called rainfall rainfall
303
rainy rain rain rain rainforest rain man dustin hoffman yeah these are my three little soldiers
304
that i've always had the cool thing here underneath my razor
305
is this little turtle glass coaster of sorts my roommate got me this in kenya it's kenya right
306
but i think it was painted in rwanda Senegal.
307
Oh, Dakar.
308
You're right.
309
So love this bathroom a lot.
310
It's funny.
311
This mat is what I had in my old apartment, um, in my old apartment going out to my old terrace.
312
Miss the terrace.
313
We don't have an outdoor space to show you today.
314
This building does have a rooftop, but we're not going to go out there tonight.
315
Sorry.
316
So as we wrap this up, there's a really big question I have to answer the big
317
question being why Brooklyn let's talk about it for a sec
318
so if you live in New York no explanation needed you get Brooklyn you know
319
that it's awesome most likely
320
but for those who don't know New York City is built of five boroughs
321
so you have Manhattan Brooklyn the Bronx Staten Island
322
and Queens the one that's the most famous and quintessential New York
323
and what you think of is Manhattan that's where the Empire State Building is
324
and Central Park and kind of all friend group and people
325
that we know a lot move to Brooklyn
326
when they're at the stage where they're wanting a little bit more peace and quiet.
327
That's a strong phrase.
328
You don't get a whole bunch of peace and quiet in New York anywhere, but on average, Brooklyn is a bit more chill.
329
And in my opinion, you just get the best of both.
330
So when I first moved to New York, when I was 22, 23.
331
i just turned 23 i lived in this amazing high -rise
332
in hell's kitchen i got this crazy covid deal very much in the thick of things around industry
333
and tall buildings
334
and honk honk honk like literally i would fall asleep listening
335
to people getting onto the lincoln tunnel honking i lived there for two years the next two
336
and a half years i lived in east village
337
which is not necessarily where you want to live when you're a bit older it's very very young
338
unlimited bars and restaurants just sort of the epitome of fun
339
and being in the thick of it in your early mid -20s for
340
that phase of my life it was could not have been more perfect I think
341
so fondly back on that time and feeling like that's
342
when I really got my footing in New York
343
and yeah I was having a lot of fun
344
so East Village was great for that but now I'm 28 now
345
that that's old
346
but I am at a phase of my life where I
347
am wanting a little bit more ability to just exhale at the end of the day
348
and i am literally one subway stop away from manhattan
349
so i still go into manhattan every day to work
350
but i get to come home to brooklyn and walk around
351
and feel a little bit more chill
352
and there's still a lot of people out it's still new york it's not like the suburbs
353
if you ask me in my early 20s will you ever
354
move to brooklyn i would have said like no way for
355
as long as i'm in new york i'll be in manhattan that's the whole point
356
but yeah i get it now and my roommate
357
and i also moved in together and he's lived in brooklyn for years
358
and so brooklyn has also sort of been my second home for quite a while.
359
That's my Brooklyn.
360
That's the explanation for those who have been asking.
361
And as far as my future in New York goes, I think the longer that I stay here, the longer I feel like I'm going to stay.
362
I just, the timeline keeps getting pushed back.
363
Don't know if that's going to be forever, but at least for the next year, I am here in this apartment.
364
I hope you liked it.
365
I was happy to show it to you today.
366
Like, and subscribe for zero dollars, totally free.
367
We have another fun video coming next week.
368
It's going to be a good one
369
and until next time you guys turtle out bye okay let
370
me have to judge this do do do do that's the architectural digest music
371
cable management under control i haven't meaning to do that for a while as it is so thanks for the excuse.
372
It's a little drippy.
373
Microwave.
374
Ew.
375
You see that book over there?
376
And then I run over here.
377
Okay.
378
Jump scare.
379
Hey, if you made it this far, thank you for watching.
380
And if you liked this video, I bet my bottom dollar that you'll also like this one.
381
Check it out.
382
Okay, bye.
