1
one of the most requested videos of this whole world this whole new world
2
that we're diving into here to my surprise was something about
3
stamps either my stamp collection how i made all of these
4
which ones i use the most how you get them made
5
in general i made a custom stamp for a habit tracker for
6
that journal video and right down to the inks
7
that i use for the stamps wax stamps all things stamps
8
so i figured let's give the people what they want and today let's talk about stamps.
9
Yeah, we're doing it.
10
Get stamped.
11
Get stamped on.
12
So I think let's start with the why.
13
Why use something like this?
14
What is the point?
15
What are we looking at here?
16
Why do this?
17
And I think that is multifaceted.
18
One, it's fun.
19
It's a way to embellish your journaling, make any type of entry look more fun.
20
You are going back on these later to look at them.
21
At least I do.
22
When I flip through them and they actually look good, I enjoy that.
23
I think we just need to start stamping these
24
and we got we got to see what our favorites are
25
this is gonna blow your mind just like we're starting with Ford
26
because this it's Ford should license this ink all right how
27
to stamp place rubber on ink press onto paper you've just stamped congratulations
28
are you kidding me are you kidding me look at
29
that it's it's insane I can't use this for anything else
30
that is literally ford blue okay this is also gonna blow
31
your mind ready some bow tie action time for some chevy red it's it's
32
so good it's
33
so i might just i might just do every car brand
34
how could i not i mean ford would even look good
35
on red i won't do it though cross contamination gotta wash these take care of your stamps
36
so they last a lifetime unbelievable okay Okay, well those are clear winners.
37
What are my favorite stamps?
38
Those ones.
39
Got all this free advertising for Ford bastards.
40
How much money I've paid fixing Fords?
41
A lot of these stamps are themed off of postage stamps or passport stamps.
42
I love getting my passport stamped.
43
It actually just expired, which breaks my heart.
44
I had a 10 year.
45
I got that passport in 2016, right before my YouTube career started taking off.
46
And every trip that I've ever gone on for this job has been in that passport and it just got rendered, expired.
47
So all my stamps are just in memory now.
48
And the bummer is a lot of places don't even stamp your passport anymore.
49
It's just biometrics, it's retinal scans, it's fingerprints, and then you're done.
50
I've always just loved this kind of stuff.
51
When I get a letter in the mail, I love when it comes from a different country and I get to see what kind of stamps are on it.
52
That's why I've emulated some of those with these.
53
This is like what it looks like when you get air mail.
54
It's usually stamped over top of the country stamp or the physical postage stamp itself.
55
There's another one.
56
You don't have to just use an ink pad like you would get on Amazon.
57
This is a typical Trodat.
58
Trodat?
59
It sounds like it can't be pronounced that way.
60
Trodat?
61
Amazon ink pad.
62
Black ink does the job.
63
There are some epic Japanese brands that actually make vintage -looking colors.
64
This is a vintage -looking red ink that literally suits the Chevy logo perfectly.
65
The same thing for Ford.
66
This should be called Ford Blue.
67
The color of this is unbelievable.
68
What are these called?
69
Sachi Iro?
70
These are insane.
71
They make other vintage colors as well.
72
My wife wouldn't let me have those ones.
73
I did steal both of these from her.
74
Beyond that, there's another company that makes some cool ink pads.
75
Jim Holtz, I believe, is the company.
76
It says Distressed Ink on the front.
77
You'll see it like this.
78
This is a cute, small little one.
79
Look at that adorable little size.
80
But they make a lot of old, antiqued -looking amber stamps.
81
It looks like tea stained stuff.
82
I've seen people rub like spoons on these
83
and treat the paper in the entire ink itself and let it dry before then they put stamps on top of it.
84
I think it's layering that makes this really, really fun.
85
That's my favorite thing to do is not just stamp something once
86
but stamp it a few times and stamp over the previous stamp
87
which makes it look like it might've actually been through the mail across time before it reaches someone
88
that I'm mailing a letter to.
89
I did a video a year ago about like the life -changing aspect to writing letters to people
90
and expressing my gratitude to clients that I've worked with, partners that I still have, friends that I love and are in my life.
91
Little things go a long way.
92
You could handwrite something on a small piece of stationery like this.
93
Stamp it, stamp it again, maybe stain the paper with something, put it in a nice envelope.
94
It literally elevates it from level two to level eight and above so fast.
95
Nothing does that like custom stamps.
96
Let's go through a little tour of the custom stamps
97
that I made with Pete's Pirate Life that look like passport stamps and postage stamps.
98
I blast these all over my journal, all over letters, all over stationery, literally anything.
99
Any place where I can throw one of these stamps, I'm doing it.
100
I might just stamp my own passport too.
101
If they're not doing stamps anymore, I might just start doing them that'll end well okay airmail
102
incredible a lot of these i designed too where the rubber
103
isn't specifically connected all the way around i like it
104
when it looks old i think half the time too a
105
stamp on the second pass looks better than the first even
106
if like half of it is inked and you miss like
107
that third one right there is money like you don't want
108
this to be perfect it's the same thing with the typewriter
109
when i first got one i wanted it to look like a computer wrote it
110
and printed it off until I started to get into it more
111
and realize the quirks of each machine is what makes it exciting.
112
So the machines I have that are messier and ink spats
113
and it just makes mistakes and half the red gets attached to the bottom of a G, like those types of things with a stamp that's half and half and part of it's missing,
114
that's the grizzliness of it that I love.
115
That's what makes it feel authentic and gives it the texture and gives it the character.
116
If everything's perfect, and there's a world for that, it's not mine, but if everything's perfect.
117
Locks a little bit of character for me.
118
Little details.
119
Okay.
120
This is when you'd come in with a blue stamp here.
121
This will look good.
122
Let's get Ford blue out.
123
You're going straight across the other stamp.
124
This is air mail.
125
This logo is like the air mail delivery.
126
Bam.
127
I will throw that on a letter on the front of the letter after I write someone's name and it looks insane.
128
That shows up in any of your mailboxes.
129
You're stoked.
130
I don't care who you are.
131
You see that your mailbox you're excited i'm excited that guy's excited stamp everything dude
132
how do you think coffee shops do it fly the flag it's getting cold it's getting cold
133
obviously straight up clean logo a must this is one of
134
my favorites this one looks like a passport stamp i think we modeled this after the kenya passport entry stamp
135
that i got years ago sometimes i get the edges in
136
there doesn't matter it's not about being perfect all right you ready for you Are you ready for this one?
137
Oh, are you kidding me?
138
Are you kidding me? That is spicy.
139
It even says immigration on it, Pete's PyroLife, international immigration.
140
I don't know what all the numbers are.
141
It's so, so sick, dude.
142
Just get on my level, come on.
143
And in the vintage red too, these are bangers.
144
You know what, I should sell these.
145
I should make a stamp pack and just send it.
146
This is a good one, too.
147
This is like when you've received the postage.
148
It's like, all right, we got it.
149
We're good.
150
It's received.
151
Mark it as received.
152
I don't know.
153
Just looks great.
154
That looks cool.
155
That one works great on the inside of field notes.
156
Starting a new field notes book?
157
What's on the inside of every field notes?
158
A place for a stamp.
159
Who's got stamps?
160
This guy.
161
This one always looks good.
162
I don't know why I'm so aggressive with that, but line that one up.
163
Bam.
164
If I do a three -pack with field notes, I'm going to make sure pirate stamps are all over this cover
165
so it looks like a well -worn pirate passport when you open that thing up.
166
Why don't you just go ahead and layer another one?
167
Throw the skull in there.
168
Sick.
169
It's too good.
170
Oh, let's get a...
171
I'm sorry.
172
Are we going through immigration right now?
173
Bam.
174
Look at that spread.
175
It's too much fun.
176
It's too much fun.
177
Now that is a pocket notebook ready to be used.
178
If you close it too soon, you might get some transfer onto the first page.
179
But that's what we want.
180
Grizzly.
181
We're going to be here all day.
182
Here's another one.
183
This I like to put on, like, if I was making prints, which I have prints coming up, but, like, this?
184
Official Pete's Pirate Life, Fly the Flag.
185
Like, that's just a good, like, you've got official merch.
186
Envelopes coming from Pete's Pirate Life from me.
187
That's what's going on in the envelope.
188
That's, like, the seal.
189
That's how you know.
190
This was the first one that I made.
191
Bam.
192
It's clean.
193
It looks like a medallion.
194
It looks like a coin.
195
It says Pete's Pirate Life.
196
Burn after reading.
197
Just like postage received, postage approved.
198
I don't know why we're approving things, but here we go.
199
Approved.
200
Pete's Pirate Life Republic.
201
You spread these across different journal pages.
202
It starts to look incredible.
203
Let me find one.
204
How good that looks.
205
Especially when you start stamping on this cotton paper, this old -school pre -distressed handmade cotton paper.
206
A little harder for the ink to actually grab on because it's so rough and toothy.
207
This is a lot smoother, so it's a clean stamp.
208
It's just more gnarly.
209
It doesn't take as well, but in that, it kinda looks sick.
210
Look at this journal page.
211
It's when I was deciding if I was gonna keep going with this no handwriting journal or not, but stamps look insane.
212
Cotton paper, hand -dyed, handmade, blue, four stamps on it, looks awesome. So good.
213
Could use a wax stamp, to be honest.
214
Oh wait, we can do that.
215
But hang on.
216
We're not we're not done.
217
We're not done.
218
Oh, this one's cool Jay gave me this one.
219
This looks like a handmade stamp.
220
I bet he made it
221
or he found it somewhere I find this one really hard to ink
222
because it's not rubber I'm not actually sure what it is
223
So that's what's cool when you find stamps along the way
224
or people give you stamps along the way Like I just
225
imagine this collection in five years from now is gonna be like out of control All right, let's try this one here
226
So I feel like you really got to press it down in all the corners to make sure it's hitting everything.
227
You ready?
228
Sick.
229
That's cool.
230
It's cool.
231
It's a different vibe for sure, but it's tough.
232
Fill the journal pages, stamp the letters, envelopes, branding.
233
If you sign something over and over and over, get a stamp made of your signature.
234
Stamp it straight on.
235
Productivity stamps that actually have all of the check boxes and lines and everything bullets already made.
236
So when you get to that journal page, stamp it in, it's done.
237
I did that with my habit tracker.
238
I made a grid for a half -month tracker, 15 by 15, and it's sized perfectly to fit on a post -it note.
239
That's one of the things that got the most traction from the first video I did a few weeks ago.
240
Everybody loved the habit tracker stamp.
241
Saves a ton of time, and there was a huge request for it.
242
Again, it was custom made, but you can go to any of these websites that make stamps, submit the file.
243
It'll show up at your door in like a week and you're good forever.
244
So it's worth the effort It's not as scary as it sounds
245
when you say oh these are custom -made Another request was to drop
246
that PNG file in the description So you guys could download it
247
and actually upload it and get it made yourself
248
So I did I've put it in the description below you
249
can click the link there download it save it to wherever Upload it to any one of those websites
250
that makes rubber stamps.
251
It's the same file I used so it should work No problem you guys asked for it.
252
It's the least I could do next up crack pipe stamp yeah this one's fun okay let's write something right now
253
what's up thanks for watching pete deep burn after reading for sure
254
that's it it's that fast vintage blue on there
255
sick let's get one of my little favorite ones over here
256
perfect little accents right there bud now for the wax fold
257
this up sometimes i just like wax sealing a letter not
258
even putting it in an envelope giving it to someone like this thanks man how sick is
259
that you leave someone's house you're like thanks dude good to see you they open this up
260
and there's like a handwritten note in there stamps and unbelievable okay
261
so a wax stamp is very interesting you usually get a
262
stick of wax i've used this one quite a bit you get this little steel spoon
263
that you're going to heat it up in you need a candle
264
and then you need the stamp itself surprise another pirate skull
265
and you need a lighter
266
which by the way this is the best lighter to ever
267
exist craig hill get your tea light going we're going to
268
heat up our wax this is it this is thrilling we put on some nice music
269
while you watch the wax melt into the little cup.
270
It went out.
271
No!
272
The wick is too small.
273
There we go.
274
Now we're getting somewhere.
275
It's taking forever.
276
Pour that wax onto the letter.
277
oh it's pretty you almost always want to do more than you think you need your logo press it down
278
and then just hold it for a minute don't move
279
I've done better sealed in wax handwritten letter stamped inside this will do more for you
280
and take you more places and also just fill you with more joy than just about any new iPhone could they're nice, but this is nicer.
281
You don't have to just do red.
282
You can get black, gold, metallic.
283
There's all kinds of different little wax stems that you can get, especially from different companies.
284
So it makes it endless and fun.
285
10 out of 10 recommend getting a wax stamp, especially with any type of logo or any kind of saying, anything at all, a family crest, highest recommendation.
286
You know what you could do?
287
You could make a bunch of stamps yourself.
288
You could make a full custom stamp kit and then you could sell it on a website.
289
Oh, and what you don't, you don't, you don't have You don't have a website?
290
Oh man, what could you do?
291
Yep, Squarespace.
292
And you could have a website up
293
and running before the end of the day with a shop selling stamps
294
or photos or services or digital assets or setting up appointments
295
or hosting a podcast or whatever it is that you do on the internet.
296
I need a Squarespace stamp.
297
This is Squarespace approved.
298
That was really aggressive, felt good.
299
Award winning templates, 24 seven customer service, websites, web stores, e -commerce, an all -in -one platform that makes it super easy
300
and you don't need any experience at all with regards to anything to do with making websites.
301
So thank you to Squarespace for sponsoring this video.
302
The links are in the description below.
303
Click those, save yourself 10 % off and get that site done before the end of the day.
304
Stop putting it off.
305
Just do it.
306
Just do it.
307
the first thing that i did
308
when i started getting more stamps i needed somewhere to put them all
309
so this is a vintage letterpress drawer
310
so there probably would have been like a huge cabinet from
311
a letterpress shop back wherever this was from i think there's even a date on it somewhere 1800s
312
and i know that letterpress stamps have our letterpress drawers have many compartments
313
which would be perfect for a myriad of different shaped stamps etc so this is what i use to keep everything in.
314
I don't really have anywhere to put this.
315
Sometimes I slide it under the couch in my office at home.
316
Right now, it's been on the table for weeks, which has been handy because I can see everything and it gives me a bird's eye view.
317
Other than that, I'd probably use a Toyo box of some sort.
318
Any one of those steel Japanese Toyo boxes would work great for stamps, especially because you can wipe them down, color coat them.
319
They stack so you could really get organized and and absolutely have a collection that looks mint with a steel Toyo box.
320
I'll link the ones below that I use.
321
I have a ton of them in my storage room for other things, but that's probably how I would do it if I wasn't using something so custom like this.
322
Some other rapid fire stamp favorites.
323
More postage stamps.
324
This one's kind of cool.
325
You can like add to this one after the fact.
326
Ooh, pretty.
327
United States postage.
328
Let's throw you right there.
329
I can't I can't get enough of this.
330
Look at this one.
331
It's got an old -school car on it.
332
Oh, just love them all.
333
It's a great day.
334
It's a great day to be stamping.
335
These types of stamps I find super great
336
because there's no particular theme for them
337
so you can just like rattle them all over a journal page
338
and they don't typically they don't technically make any sense at all but they just look good.
339
There's just numbers and telephone numbers and they look like stamps
340
and some of them look like old stamps and these types of things just rattled everywhere look great.
341
Like a lot that's just so sick.
342
Now one guy from Mexico a friend of mine makes all of these
343
and you can get all of his stamp packs from his website.
344
I don't know if he ships internationally maybe he will after this but these all came from one dude.
345
Look look look this this looks insane.
346
These are way better than my pirate stamps.
347
Just gonna like this is like a professional made these.
348
Always like this one.
349
Flip to the next page.
350
Pointing to something.
351
This is where we went this guy in a photo there's
352
so many uses for something like this oh look at
353
that come on i'm sorry am i christian from 1924 us
354
now look at this fun little bottle color the inside fill
355
it with something boop sick oh you want a jar maybe you fill each one of these little jar stamps
356
and you color them in with whatever fountain pen ink
357
that you're working with and you're trying to decide which one's your favorite.
358
That's a great idea.
359
Spots for labels, writing anything like the possibilities are endless.
360
Pen nibs.
361
Come on.
362
Then you've got your alphabet stamps with your email.
363
P. I don't ever care if I see the edges.
364
M. Boop.
365
Almost the messier the better.
366
Then you go ahead and date it.
367
This is imperative.
368
Every single journal page that I do has one of these on it.
369
September.
370
Boosh.
371
This one tells you the weather.
372
If it's sunny, if it's raining, cloudy or snow, it's fun.
373
Look how unique all of these are.
374
It's things like this that make this entire hobby or profession for some people, pastime, way more fun.
375
Adding layers to anything makes it great.
376
From all the filmmakers that watch these videos that follow me for filmmaking and photography,
377
adding a different piece of equipment that can give you a different shot just makes making B -roll of something more exciting.
378
Or getting a flash for your camera opens up new opportunities
379
so that you can take photos of people in different lighting conditions and that adds layers.
380
Just like adding stamps like this or different types of accessories, open up new layers to something that just makes it more and more fun.
381
To make something analog, to physically give to another human is
382
so special and you just don't see it as much these days.
383
These stamps make those things better.
384
That was a random video.
385
That was a long, that was way longer than I thought I could ever talk about stamps.
386
I hope you liked it.
387
It was as random as I thought it would be, but I had a great time doing it.
388
So link in the description if you want that habit tracking stamp, I've left it below.
389
I'm gonna work on doing like a pirate pack of stamps
390
because I just think that's cool and it's something that I would wanna make.
391
A lot of the products I make with that brand are just things that I want.
392
So that's usually where I start.
393
And this I think would be cool.
394
This is a deep, deep hole.
395
It's a whole different world, But I'm gonna navigate you through this thing because we're here together and hell yeah I'm having a blast.
396
Thanks much for watching hit the like button
397
if you like this video Subscribe if you haven't already and I will see you in the next one.
398
Leave me more suggestions below I'm reading the comments.
399
I'm reading them all you guys wanted stamps.
400
You got stamps.
401
What's next?

「The Most Satisfying Journaling Process」
