7
Chapter 9 The Flower Festival Today is the flower festival,
8
wrote Hamilton in his journal,
9
the halfway point between spring and summer.
10
Sitting on a branch outside his bedroom window,
11
he paused to admire the view before continuing.
12
The garden is in full bloom,
13
and every flower is bursting with the sweet fragrance of Lady Spring.
14
Mrs. Girl!
15
A cheerful voice called from below.
16
Hamilton glanced down to see Tourmaline waving at him.
17
Her tiny arms outstretched.
18
A smile broke across his face.
19
The little pixie couldn't fly yet.
20
So, Hamilton tucked his journal into his vest and scampered down the tree to greet her.
21
Tourmaline gave him a big hug,
22
nearly knocking him over with enthusiasm.
23
Come with me.
24
She said, tugging his bushy tail.
25
We're making flower crowns.
26
Holding his hat, Hamilton followed as Tourmaline eagerly led him into the flowering fields.
27
As they arrived, the fairies greeted Hamilton with the songs of spring.
28
Sing with me all the songs of Lady Spring to see all the flowers wakening from sleep to greet the morning sun.
29
Oh, it is time to be in the fields dancing happily
30
Where the flowers welcome you and me Into the fields of green So come with me
31
And sing the songs of spring Melodies fill my heart with lines of poetry
32
Words that bring to life my sleepy soul And make me feel whole Oh,
33
how the songs I sing Move my body with a gentle swing Like a river moving down the stream
34
Into the land of dreams So come with me And sing the songs of spring Ah,
35
oh be with me In the meadows of tranquility
36
Where the sorrows fly away Like birds into the open sky It is the place to be
37
Where the fruit that grows upon the trees Ripen into tender love and joy and peace beneath the sun.
38
So come with me and sing the songs of spring.
39
With busy hands, the fairies wove intricate flower crowns and assembled the grand bouquet.
40
The lilies, irises, and tulips,
41
the lilacs, roadies, and azaleas,
42
every flower in the garden gently swayed and nodded as they listened to the fairies work and sing.
43
Tourmaline, still clinging to Hamilton,
44
snatched his hat and replaced it with a crown of daisies.
45
It looks so pretty.
46
Playfully, Hamilton adjusted the flower crown,
47
spun around, and pretended to have wings like a fairy,
48
until Citrine and Ruby, deciding to join in,
49
grabbed him by the arms and lifted him into the air.
50
Look at me!
51
Caught Hamilton.
52
I'm flying!
53
All the fairies watched and laughed with great amusement.
54
Thumpkin arrived just in time to witness Ruby and Citrine gently lowering Hamilton to the ground,
55
both laughing too hard to hold on much longer.
56
Hamilton greeted his friend with a playful bow.
57
What a nice flower crown, said Thumpkin.
58
Hamilton noticed that Thumpkin was wearing a red petunia on his head and returned the compliment.
59
And what a nice flower cap you have.
60
Thank you.
61
One by one, the other gnomes arrived,
62
each adorned with a flower cap.
63
Petty Palm wore a yellow daffodil.
64
Puddle Bloom wore a bluebell.
65
And finally, Rudabug appeared wearing a decorative green lily.
66
There he is!
67
Thumpkin announced, rushing over to greet Rudabug.
68
Happy birthday, you jolly brown beard!
69
The fairy swarmed Rudabug, buzzing around him as they braided flowers into his burly brown beard.
70
When they finished, he stood tall.
71
His beard transformed into a fantastic spring bouquet.
72
In great spirits, Rudabug paraded his flowery beard for all to see.
73
Raise the pole!
74
shouted Pettypalm.
75
Yes, raise the pole!
76
Everyone echoed.
77
With a hearty laugh, Rudabug rolled up his sleeves and marched to the center of the field,
78
where the large wooden pole lay in the grass.
79
With a great feat of strength,
80
he hoisted it upright until it slid in place with a satisfying...
81
Upon seeing the merry pole had been raised,
82
Pearl landed gracefully in the field and inspected the grand bouquet her fairies had crafted.
83
With a nod of approval,
84
she raised her hand and the fairies lifted the bouquet and secured it atop the merry pole.
85
Then, with another wave, Pearl directed the fairies to tie long,
86
colorful ribbons to the pole and let them cascade to the ground.
87
It's ready, declared Pearl, and everyone clapped with satisfaction.
88
But then, Puddlebloom stepped forward and signaled to the fairies.
89
He pointed to Rudabug and raised both arms.
90
The fairies, giggling, understood at once and quickly rushed toward the jolly birthday noon.
91
Amid laughter and some comical effort,
92
they hoisted Rudabug into the air and plopped him right into the grand bouquet atop the pole.
93
Rudabug, booming with laughter, waved to the crowd below.
94
At this, Thumpkin struck up a merry tune on his fiddle,
95
while Pettypum joined him on the flute.
96
Each taking a ribbon of their color,
97
the fairies began to dance a merry ring.
98
Step inside the merry ring,
99
dance with me, as we sing with a crown of flowers on our heads and hands holding at a friend.
100
We go round the merry pool,
101
dance with me Young and old with a hop,
102
a skiff, a jurn, a skiff Oh let the fun begin Dance a merry week,
103
come dance for ladies' spring
104
Yes, you get in there.
105
Follow me around the ring.
106
Dance with me and you'll see how the merry pole will twist and turn.
107
Just watch me and you'll learn.
108
Up and down we'll go around to the sound of our feet.
109
Dancing on his step upon the ground until the pole is bound.
110
Dance a merry ring, come dance for Lady Swing.
111
Joyfully, they followed along until step by step,
112
the ribbons wove together in a vibrant spiral from top to bottom.
113
As Father's Son drifted below the trees,
114
Hamilton wrote in his journal that night,
115
petals floated like confetti as the sound of music and laughter carried on into the night.
116
He paused.
117
Rudabug's jolly laughter echoed from across the pond.
118
Smiling, he wrote, Truly, it was one of the happiest days in the garden.
119
Happy birthday, Rootabuck, and good night.

  • 현재 진행형: "Hamilton glanced down to see Tourmaline waving at him."
  • 의문문: "Come with me."
  • 직접 인용: "We're making flower crowns."
