Chapter 9 The Flower Festival Today is the flower festival,

wrote Hamilton in his journal,

the halfway point between spring and summer.

Sitting on a branch outside his bedroom window,

he paused to admire the view before continuing.

The garden is in full bloom,

and every flower is bursting with the sweet fragrance of Lady Spring.

Mrs. Girl!

A cheerful voice called from below.

Hamilton glanced down to see Tourmaline waving at him.

Her tiny arms outstretched.

A smile broke across his face.

The little pixie couldn't fly yet.

So, Hamilton tucked his journal into his vest and scampered down the tree to greet her.

Tourmaline gave him a big hug,

nearly knocking him over with enthusiasm.

She said, tugging his bushy tail.

We're making flower crowns.

Holding his hat, Hamilton followed as Tourmaline eagerly led him into the flowering fields.

As they arrived, the fairies greeted Hamilton with the songs of spring.

Oh, it is time to be in the fields dancing happily

With busy hands, the fairies wove intricate flower crowns and assembled the grand bouquet.

The lilies, irises, and tulips,

the lilacs, roadies, and azaleas,

every flower in the garden gently swayed and nodded as they listened to the fairies work and sing.

Tourmaline, still clinging to Hamilton,

snatched his hat and replaced it with a crown of daisies.

It looks so pretty.

Playfully, Hamilton adjusted the flower crown,

spun around, and pretended to have wings like a fairy,

until Citrine and Ruby, deciding to join in,

grabbed him by the arms and lifted him into the air.

All the fairies watched and laughed with great amusement.

Thumpkin arrived just in time to witness Ruby and Citrine gently lowering Hamilton to the ground,

both laughing too hard to hold on much longer.

Hamilton greeted his friend with a playful bow.

What a nice flower crown, said Thumpkin.

Hamilton noticed that Thumpkin was wearing a red petunia on his head and returned the compliment.

And what a nice flower cap you have.

One by one, the other gnomes arrived,

each adorned with a flower cap.

Petty Palm wore a yellow daffodil.

Puddle Bloom wore a bluebell.

And finally, Rudabug appeared wearing a decorative green lily.

Thumpkin announced, rushing over to greet Rudabug.

Happy birthday, you jolly brown beard!

The fairy swarmed Rudabug, buzzing around him as they braided flowers into his burly brown beard.

When they finished, he stood tall.

His beard transformed into a fantastic spring bouquet.

In great spirits, Rudabug paraded his flowery beard for all to see.

With a hearty laugh, Rudabug rolled up his sleeves and marched to the center of the field,

Upon seeing the merry pole had been raised,

Pearl landed gracefully in the field and inspected the grand bouquet her fairies had crafted.

she raised her hand and the fairies lifted the bouquet and secured it atop the merry pole.

Then, with another wave, Pearl directed the fairies to tie long,

colorful ribbons to the pole and let them cascade to the ground.

It's ready, declared Pearl, and everyone clapped with satisfaction.

But then, Puddlebloom stepped forward and signaled to the fairies.

He pointed to Rudabug and raised both arms.

The fairies, giggling, understood at once and quickly rushed toward the jolly birthday noon.

Amid laughter and some comical effort,

they hoisted Rudabug into the air and plopped him right into the grand bouquet atop the pole.

Rudabug, booming with laughter, waved to the crowd below.

At this, Thumpkin struck up a merry tune on his fiddle,

while Pettypum joined him on the flute.

the fairies began to dance a merry ring.
