4
Situational interview questions assess what you would do in a particular scenario.
5
And some examples of situational interview questions include, you are assigned a task you don't know how to complete.
6
What do you do? you?
7
The next example question is, how would you handle an aggressive customer or client?
8
How would you handle criticism from a supervisor?

26
Okay.
27
Let's get started with those top seven situational interview questions and top -scoring example answers.
28
The first one is, you are assigned a task you don't know how to complete.
29
What do you do?
30
Let me give you two tips before I give you my example answer.
31
Tip number one.
32
So, this situational interview question is assessing your initiative and your ability to think on your feet.
33
Do not say you couldn't do the task because you weren't qualified or experienced to do it properly.
34
Instead, be proactive and take ownership of the task.
35
And tip number two, in your answer, say you would view this as an opportunity for you to learn something new
36
and then explain the steps you would take to complete the task, but how do you answer it to gain the highest scores possible?
37
Here's my example response.
38
You are assigned a task you don't know how to complete.
39
What do you do?
40
Here we go.
41
I would view it as an opportunity for me to learn something new and to widen my skills.
42
I would take ownership of the task.
43
I would start by determining my goal, what I needed to achieve in terms of task completion and by when.
44
I would then research the task by asking others for advice on the best way to tackle it.
45
I would watch online tutorials and I would also read any applicable training manuals.
46
I would then create a list of the things I needed to do to complete the task on time
47
and to the expected standard.
48
That's a brilliant example answer to that first situational interview question.
49
And you will notice that it's very positive.
50
It puts you across as a positive and determined employee.
51
And that is what the interviewer wants to hear.
52
Now, don't go anywhere because I still have another six situational interview questions and answers to give you.
53
But when you're ready, you can click that link in the top right -hand corner of the video.

55
and top -scoring answers in a PDF guide, including the ones we are working through together today.
56
Here's the next question.
57
What would you do if you disagreed with your boss?
58
Wow.
59
This is a really difficult question to answer correctly.
60
Tip number one.
61
The majority of candidates say they would never disagree with their boss, but that is not the way to answer this tough interview question.
62
You are being assessed against two things here, your confidence and communication skills.
63
Tip number two.
64
I would personally answer this situational interview question by saying, I would always be respectful, but I would let my boss know if I disagreed with his or her decision,
65
if I felt something could be done better that was in the best interests of the company.
66
It makes sense to do so.
67
Here's my example answer.
68
What would you do if you disagreed with your boss?
69
Here we go.
70
I wouldn't be afraid to disagree with my boss
71
if I felt there was a different and potentially more beneficial way of working.
72
If I disagreed, I would be respectful, professional, and I would put forward my idea by explaining the benefits of the alternative way of working.
73
If my boss did not think my idea was a good one, I would then fully commit to their initial decision.
74
That's a great example answer.
75
It shows that you are not afraid to put forward different ideas, but then you would commit if your boss did not agree with you.
76
Here's the next question.
77
How would you handle an aggressive customer or client?
78
This comes up all the time during job interviews.
79
Tip number one.
80
This situational interview question is assessing your customer service skills.
81
Do not respond with a defensive answer instead.
82
Say you would go out of your way to provide excellent customer service
83
and do all you could to turn the situation around.
84
Tip number two, in your answer, say you would listen to the customer, ask them questions to determine what the issue was,
85
use effective communication skills to diffuse that situation, and then put steps in place to resolve it quickly.
86
Here's my example answer.
87
How would you handle an aggressive customer or client?
88
Here we go.
89
If a customer is being difficult, aggressive or confrontational, it is usually because there is a problem or they have received poor service.
90
I would do all I could to diffuse the situation and resolve any issues quickly.
91
I would listen to the customer and demonstrate active listening skills.
92
I would ask them questions to determine the exact cause of the problem as this would enable me to create a solution.
93
I would be confident in my style of communication and demonstrate competence whilst handling the customer.
94
I would apologize if the company was at fault
95
and I would tell the customer what I was going to do to rectify the issue
96
and keep them updated with my progress regularly." That's a really good answer.
97
And can you imagine hiring someone who would deal with an aggressive customer in that manner?
98
You would want them on your team for sure because they are going out of their way to provide excellent customer service.
99
Here's the next situational interview question.
100
How would you deal with a conflict with a coworker?
101
Tip number one.
102
Now, this is a type of situational interview question where lots of candidates end up failing their job interviews on.
103
They respond by saying they would speak to their manager about the conflict
104
so they could advise on the best way to deal with it.
105
That's not the best way to answer this question because the hiring manager wants to hear you say,
106
you would first take it upon yourself to resolve the conflict as a mature and professional employee.
107
Tip number two, I would personally answer this tough situational interview question by saying I would first assess my own words
108
and actions to see if I were contributing negatively to the situation before taking steps to resolve it quickly.
109
Here's my example answer.
110
How would you deal with a conflict with a co -worker? worker.
111
I would do all I could to resolve the conflict myself initially as a professional and mature employee.
112
I believe we would both have a duty to seek a resolution for the sake of the team.
113
I would first assess my own words and actions.
114
Have I said or done anything to contribute to the conflict?
115
I would then speak to my coworker in private to establish how they felt about the conflict
116
and try to come up with an amicable way forward we were both comfortable with.
117
At all times, whilst communicating with my coworker, I would be polite and I would have the best interests of our team at heart.
118
That's another really good answer that's going to help you pass your interview at the first attempt.
119
Here's the next question.
120
How would you handle criticism from a supervisor?
121
Again, this is a difficult situational interview question to answer correctly.
122
Tip number one.
123
Now, some people do not take criticism well.
124
They either become defensive or they ignore it because they think they know best.
125
It is important to be positive about the criticism or feedback that you receive.
126
And that is what the interviewer is seeking from the ideal candidate.
127
Tip number two, I would answer this situational interview question by saying I would listen to the criticism
128
and take on board the feedback to see what I could do to improve.
129
I would then go on to say there is always something new to learn regardless of how much experience a person has.
130
And if you are always open to learning, you will always be earning.
131
And that's a great thing to say.
132
Here we go.
133
How would you handle criticism from a supervisor?
134
I would listen to what my supervisor was saying and I would use the information and advice to improve.
135
There is always something new to learn, so I would be positive about the criticism.
136
If I disagreed with it, I would explain why and put my point across in a positive, respectful and professional manner.
137
I believe feedback is the breakfast of champions.
138
And because I want to continually learn, grow and improve, I would want to accept any help or advice I could get.
139
Again, that's a positive answer.
140
And I'd want to implore you if you gave me that type of response to that difficult question.
141
Here's the next situational interview question I recommend you prepare for.
142
A work colleague is not doing their job properly.
143
What do you do?
144
Tip number one.
145
Now, this next situational interview question is assessing whether you would take steps yourself to resolve this problem,
146
whether you would ignore it or whether you would inform your supervisor so they could deal with it.
147
Now, I would personally answer this tough question by saying, I would speak to my work colleague myself about the issue.
148
Tip number two, this question is assessing your team working skills.
149
Are you the type of person who would work with your colleague to get them up to speed again in their work, or would you not see it as your problem to deal with?
150
Here's my example answer.
151
A work colleague is not doing their job properly.
152
What do you do?
153
Here we go.
154
I would speak to my work colleague in private to find out the reason why they weren't doing their job properly.
155
After all, their underperformance could start affecting the wider team, so I would be eager to help them.
156
They might be having personal problems, they might be lacking the right training, or they might be feeling demotivated.
157
I would offer to help them and explain the benefits of doing their job properly
158
and completing their work to the right standard for the sake of the team." That's a great answer.
159
Again, puts you across as a brilliant potential employee that the hiring manager would probably want to hire.
160
Here's the next question.
161
What would you do if you and a coworker disagreed?
162
This is a difficult one to answer.
163
Tip number one.
164
This This next situational interview question is assessing whether you put your own needs first or the needs of your team.
165
Now, as you can imagine, putting the needs of your team first is the most important thing to do.
166
Therefore, be very careful how you respond to this tricky interview question.
167
Tip number two, answer this question by saying you would listen to your coworkers' ideas or suggestions.
168
Next, say you would work towards a compromise you were both happy with
169
that enabled you to achieve your goal or complete the task in hand.
170
Here's my example answer to help you.
171
What would you do if you and a coworker disagreed?
172
Here we go.
173
I would want to find a way forward with my coworker for the sake of the team we were a part of.
174
I would listen to their ideas, opinions or suggestions and then put my own across in a reasoned manner stating the benefits of my way of working.
175
I would then suggest
176
that we take the positive aspects of each of our suggested methods of working and combine them together to achieve our goal.
177
At all times, I would be positive, professional, and I would listen." That's another great answer.

  • "I would view it as an opportunity..." - "would"를 사용한 가정법은 상황형 질문에서 자주 쓰이는 표현입니다. 상황에 대한 자신의 행동 방식을 설명할 때, "would"로 미래의 가능성을 부드럽게 표현할 수 있습니다.
  • "take ownership of the task" - "ownership"은 "책임감"을 뜻하며, "take ownership of"는 "~에 대한 책임을 지다"로 번역됩니다. 직장에서의 책임감을 강조할 때 유용한 표현입니다.
  • "determine my goal, what I needed to achieve" - "determine"은 "결정하다, 파악하다"는 뜻으로, 목표를 설정하거나 필요한 것을 파악할 때 사용됩니다.
