12
This is my favorite coffee place.
13
It's called Old Rice Field Coffee.
14
Oh my god.
15
Shut up.
16
The sign here says Old Rice Field Parking.
17
This is, oh my god, this is the parking lot where you'll park your scooter
18
or your bicycle once you arrive here and it's covered by a tarp.
19
This is a tarp and they have a tarp here to protect the seat of
20
the scooter from the sun because the sun in Vietnam is really hot.
21
When I drove the scooter here, I had to wear a helmet to protect my head.
22
So I wore this helmet.
23
Let's go inside.
24
If you can't tell, I'm feeling super groggy this morning.
25
Ah...
26
Groggy is when you feel tired and you need to wake up.
27
So I need to wake up.
28
I need a coffee to wake up.
29
So let's go.
30
Let's get a coffee and wake up.
31
The rooster has a lot of energy.
32
to get to the coffee place.
33
We have to walk over this little bridge.
34
This is a bridge.
35
The bridge is made of bamboo.
36
This is bamboo.
37
Suspended over the bridge, there's a sign and it reads "Old Rice Field Food
38
and Drinks." That's the name of the coffee place.
39
It's my favorite coffee place here in Vietnam.
40
Do you know what this is called? Or this?
41
Thank you.
42
This is a flag.
43
These are all flags of Vietnam.
44
Let's walk over the bridge.
45
Thank you.
46
Right now I'm walking over the bridge.
47
And this is called a lantern.
48
A lantern.
49
This lantern is pink in color.
50
I'm so groggy.
51
Can you see my eyes?
52
Do they look groggy?
53
I really need a coffee.
54
Follow me.
55
Let's order a coffee.
56
Good morning.
57
Yeah, I'm so groggy.
58
You know what groggy means?
59
Groggy means like I'm tired and I need to wake up.
60
So I need coffee.
61
So I think I came to the right place.
62
This is the right place for coffee.
63
Yes, good coffee.
64
Okay.
65
I'm gonna get a Vietnamese black coffee with ice and one coconut coffee as well.
66
Okay, thank you.
67
Now we need to find a place to sit.
68
Wow, there's so many options.
69
There's a table here that's made of wood with two chairs.
70
These chairs are red in color.
71
On top of the table, there's a pink orchid.
72
Super beautiful, right?
73
And then suspended above the table, there's two beautiful lanterns.
74
And this lantern is white.
75
And this lantern is pink.
76
There's beautiful pink flowers in a pot on top of the table.
77
Mmm.
78
And they smell beautiful actually.
79
Yeah, they're roses.
80
These are roses.
81
I've never seen this type of rose before.
82
On the stem of the rose you can see thorns. and they're very sharp.
83
If you touch the thorns too hard, you can prick your finger and then your finger might bleed.
84
These chairs...
85
are blue and this orchid is white.
86
Also so beautiful.
87
You can see some of the flowers still haven't bloomed yet.
88
This one hasn't bloomed and these ones, they haven't bloomed yet.
89
But soon they'll look like this.
90
Let's find a place to sit.
91
Thank you.
92
This table has a beautiful view of the landscape.
93
I think this is a really nice location.
94
Thank you.
95
Where's my coffee?
96
I'm so groggy.
97
Give me my coffee.
98
Have a seat.
99
Can you see this right here?
100
This swollen area, I got a mosquito bite.
101
And you can see that it's swollen and it's really itchy and really annoying.
102
especially when you're groggy and you haven't woken up in the morning.
103
The last thing you want is a mosquito bite.
104
But the owner of the cafe She brought us a fan and the wind will help keep the mosquitoes away.
105
So hopefully I won't get another mosquito bite.
106
This is the landscape of what we can see where we're sitting right now.
107
In the landscape, First of all, you can see the rice fields.
108
the rice fields and further in the distance You can see a mountain.
109
And over there you can see a house.
110
And here you can see trees in the landscape.
111
Our coffee just arrived.
112
It's served in a glass with ice.
113
And I can stir the coffee with a straw.
114
And I'm hoping that it makes me feel less groggy.
115
I'm not ready to take my sunglasses off yet because my eyes still look tired and I'm cranky.
116
Cranky?
117
is when you are irritable and little things annoy you that normally wouldn't annoy you.
118
Like maybe loud noises or somebody waking you up in the morning when you're still sleeping and you wanted to sleep longer.
119
Or maybe your cat woke you up because it was hungry in the morning
120
and you didn't get enough sleep so you're cranky.
121
So I'm feeling cranky right now and I'm hoping that this coffee helps.
122
I'm not ready to take my sunglasses off yet because I feel like my eyes look really tired right now.
123
The reason why I'm cranky is because I didn't get enough sleep last night.
124
I went to sleep at 2 o 'clock in the morning
125
and I woke up at about 5 o 'clock in the morning.
126
So I only got about 3 hours of sleep.
127
When I woke up at 5 o 'clock in the morning, I tried to go back to sleep and I just couldn't go back to sleep.
128
Sometimes I wake up and my mind races.
129
When the woman that owns the place brought our coffees, she brought us two cold, wet towels.
130
and it's really warm today.
131
Whenever she brings these, I undo the towel, I unroll the towel, and I usually like put it on my face, on my neck, on my arms to cool myself down.
132
And it feels really refreshing.
133
And I'll put them on my legs like this.
134
It looks really funny, but
135
It keeps you cool and it shades my legs from the sun so that I don't get a sunburn.
136
When the owner brought us the coffee, she also brought us cold water in a glass.
137
So it's also refreshing to have a sip of water when you're groggy and hot and cranky.
138
I might need to take a nap later.
139
so that I don't feel as tired as I do right now.
140
I need another coffee.
141
Where can I get another coffee?
142
So, Okay.
143
You can see the color of the rice field.
144
It's sort of green.
145
Usually it's really green.
146
Right now it's a cross between yellow and green because the harvest happens sometime in September and October.
147
depending on the weather.
148
You can also see that the rice is almost ready to be harvested.
149
These are the rice grains.
150
These are grains of rice.
151
And in the distance there, you can see the crop burning.
152
After they harvest the rice, they burn the crops.
153
I think I'm feeling a little bit more perky.
154
Perky means you're feeling a bit more energetic.
155
Like you're feeling a bit more energized.
156
So I had one coffee, so I'm feeling a little bit perky.
157
But I'm still not perky enough to remove my sunglasses.
158
So I'm going to get one more coffee.
