Well, in this video you're going to learn English with the comprehensible input method.
3
All you need to do is just watch, listen, and you will learn new English vocabulary.
4
Today we're in the city of Brighton on the south coast of England.
5
It's a very popular getaway for people from London.
6
so let's go and take a look around Brighton
7
okay
8
so we are we are here in the North lanes you
9
can see this absolutely heaving with people right now look I mean it's honestly heaving it's probably
10
because it's peak season right now.
11
It's July, it's Saturday, so yeah, it's basically peak season.
12
What can you do?
13
We're actually going to look for a new pair of sunglasses now.
14
I don't like these sunglasses, honestly.
15
So we're gonna find a new pair.
16
Here we got some bongo drums.
17
Some bongo drums here.
18
That's the extent of my bongo drum skills.
19
Here we've got some maracas.
20
What have we got here?
21
Some rings.
22
Selection of different rings here.
23
Some bracelets to go on your wrist.
24
This, a selection of bracelets.
25
and yes we got rings and we got bracelets that's basically everything
26
that we got here five pound each
27
or you can get three for ten pounds not
28
a bad deal yeah bracelets what do you
29
think they look good yeah it is absolutely heaving with people
30
enjoying beer in the
31
sun yep
32
over there
33
that's called the Brighton Dome
34
see because
35
because there's a big dome shape on the top of the
36
the building you can see see it's in the shape of a dome
37
so that's why it's called the brighton dome um they do performances it's like a theater as well i think
38
so it's a theater they do performances just like the royal pavilion over there
39
so yeah if you're into your theater i think you know where to go so this is the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.
40
It was built for King George IV, I believe, and it was kind of his like getaway retreat,
41
right, because King George, he lived in London, and London is a busy, crazy place.
42
This was kind of like his seaside getaway.
43
It was kind of a place where he could escape the hustle and bustle of London.
44
Interestingly it was actually turned into a military hospital during World War I.
45
It was a military hospital just for Indian soldiers.
46
So yeah it was a military hospital for wounded Indian soldiers.
47
Today it's actually a theatre right so you can go and you can watch performances there.
48
So yeah let's go take a look at what's on in the theatre.
49
So this tells you what's on right it tells you what's
50
on at the theater here between uh from may until august 2026 so
51
so we can take a look at what's on uh apparently
52
this has already happened right this was on the 13th of
53
may on the wednesday there was an event called the treasures of the royal pavilion archive that's good uh today
54
so the next event that's on here pride at the pavilion when it When it talks about Pride here, it's actually talking about LGBT Pride.
55
So there must be some kind of Pride event happening here at the Pavilion on Thursday, the 30th of July.
56
It goes from 6.30 until 9.30pm.
57
The tickets are 70 quid.
58
That's a bit pricey, in my opinion.
59
A little bit pricey, 70 quid.
60
But there are early bird tickets for 60 pounds until the 1st of May.
61
So an early bird ticket is when you buy the ticket really early, right?
62
You're one of the first people to buy a ticket.
63
So you can get an early bird discount, right?
64
Because you know what they say, the early bird gets the worm.
65
Yes, have you heard that before?
66
Everybody knows that the early bird gets the worm.
67
Members can get a discount of 15% and apparently it's a glamorous evening of food, wine and entertainment.
68
Sounds good! so
69
now
70
we're in the area of Brighton
71
which is called the lanes okay basically in the lanes you You can find loads of little independent shops of all kinds.
72
You can also find some pretty expensive restaurants as well.
73
So I guess we'll just wander around the lanes.
74
Anyway you can see the lanes are heaving just like everywhere else in Brighton today.
75
Somebody's playing music down here as well.
76
There's a restaurant over here.
77
Alright, over here there's a busker,
78
there's a girl busking on her guitar and I guess she's just trying to earn a little bit of money by busking.
79
It's quite a good spot actually if you think about it.
80
This is a good spot to do some busking because there's a lot of people passing through this area so.
81
This book, that's always the one My name is Bo, you say my name is Bo
82
There's a pizzeria behind me So yeah, if you're Italian You know, maybe you want to come and check out the pizzeria Although if you're Italian
83
You probably they probably won't be up to your standards probably
84
but if you are not Italian come to the pizzeria You'll probably you'll probably love it and Yeah,
85
lost in the lanes I guess because we're in the lanes
86
and it's kind of like around like a side alley in the lanes
87
So it's I guess if you're a bit lost and you're in the lanes Go to this cafe restaurant cafe
88
Go to this cafe if you're lost in the lanes, I guess.
89
So there we go.
90
Okay, so we've looked around the lanes.
91
Let's go to the beach, shall we?
92
Let's go take a look at Brighton Beach.
93
We're going to walk down here and we're going to go to the seafront.
94
Let's go. So now
95
we're at the Brighton seafront.
96
I'm gonna try not to walk into anybody as I walk backwards here.
97
So you can see, just like everywhere else in Brighton, it is absolutely heaving with people because it's a Saturday,
98
it's peak season, and so everybody's here.
99
You can see there's a cycle lane just here,
100
so you need to be careful not to step into the cycle lane while there are cyclists passing up and down, right?
101
So yeah, there we go.
102
I don't want to step into the cycle lane and get hit by a cyclist.
103
That would be bad.
104
You can see down here we have a merry-go-round over there.
105
You can see there are some kids who are sat on top of the horses.
106
The little horses.
107
And yeah, this is what we call a merry-go-round.
108
I guess when I was like five, I probably went on there.
109
I'm not planning to go on the merry-go-round today.
110
doesn't really seem appropriate for a man in their 30s to be on the merry-go-round
111
so I'm probably going to avoid that one
112
the thing is with Brighton is that it's only a one-hour train ride from London.
113
So it's kind of a perfect getaway for anybody who lives and works in London.
114
And you know the London lifestyle can be a bit hectic, it can be a bit stressful.
115
So Brighton really is like the perfect weekend getaway for a busy person in London, right?
116
So that's why it's really busy today.
117
I think that's why Brighton gets so busy because lots of people here are from London.
118
It's the perfect getaway from London.
119
Having said that, I have already heard today lots of different languages as we walk around.
120
Including Spanish.
121
I can recognize the Spanish that I'm hearing.
122
There are actually people from all over the world living here in Brighton.
123
So Brighton is actually the LGBT capital of England.
124
So actually next week here there's going to be a pride parade.
125
Right, that is a pride parade for the LGBT community.
126
And Brighton is famous for the LGBT community in England.
127
As well as Bristol as well.
128
You can see we actually have some posters on the side here.
129
So there are some posters.
130
Pride on the Park.
131
So again, Pride is referring to LGBT Pride.
132
It's a Pride Parade, right?
133
And so there's a big event happening next week.
134
Pride on the Park, Pride 2026.
135
So yeah, that's the Pride 2026.
136
It's happening, I think, one week from today.
137
So if you think it's heaving with people now, you know, you should see it next Saturday.
138
There's going to be even more people here.
139
Hold!
140
So, we're on Brighton Beach.
141
As you can see, it's not a sand beach.
142
It's a pebble beach, just like Hastings Beach from the other video, filled with pebbles.
143
This is a pebble.
144
So this is a pebble and this is the kind of thing that you will find on Brighton Beach.
145
So yeah, Brighton Beach is very popular.
146
You can see if you look up and down, look up the beach there.
147
You can see the people just go a long way.
148
This beach is filled with people, probably tourists from other countries,
149
but like I said, a lot of these people will be enjoying a seaside getaway from London, probably for the weekend.
150
Brighton Beach is probably the most popular beach actually in the whole country.
151
Now that I think about it, Brighton Beach is probably the busiest and the most popular beach in England.
152
Now, as for the weather, I have to say the weather is pretty good in some ways.
153
There is a nice sea breeze coming from the sea.
154
The problem is there's a cloud over there.
155
Take a look.
156
See, ah, there's a cloud.
157
You know, quite a big cloud actually.
158
So yeah, you know, I prefer when the sky is just blue and there aren't any clouds in the sky.
159
And so this is kind of annoying, you know?
160
It's like nearly a perfect day, but like there is a cloud there and like there is another cloud.
161
It's actually quite cloudy.
162
And so, yeah, I don't really like these clouds that are in the sky.
163
It's annoying me because it's nearly perfect.
164
It's almost the perfect day, but there are just a couple of clouds.
165
So that's kind of annoying and I don't like that.
166
And that's what I'm complaining about today.
167
Like I would rather it was just a cloudy day.
168
The fact that it's mostly perfect, but with just a couple of clouds, that's just, that really annoys me actually.
169
As you can see, I've got a nice portion of fish and chips here.
170
Classic fish and chips by the sea, by the beach.
171
You need to be careful because seagulls come and steal your food right
172
so you need to watch out and make sure
173
that no seagulls are going to come and take it
174
but yeah i'm just going to enjoy this portion of fish
175
and chips before we go and explore the rest of brighton
176
so you can see there's a basketball court here it's a
177
group group of guys just playing some some basketball by the
178
beach pretty cool over on this side we've got some looks like some beach tennis I guess
179
so we've got a little beach tennis court
180
and the four players are holding uh tennis rackets so yeah lots of like little sports and stuff going on
181
here on brighton beach here we got a little area where you can play some table tennis right
182
if you have a paddle a table tennis paddle
183
and a little white ball you can bring them here
184
and you can just play these tables are free to use so yeah
185
if you want to play some table tennis you can just come it's free free to use enjoy now
186
if you look at this you can actually go up this thing here
187
you can get a pretty cool view of all of Brighton.
188
We're not going up there today because the tickets are like pretty pricey, you know.
189
I think it's something like 30
190
or 40 quid just to go for one person to go up there and get a view.
191
So it's just not worth it.
192
It's not worth it.
193
But it is cool.
194
If you want to spend the money, it's a cool, you'll get a cool view over all of Brighton. So yeah.
195
As you can see, I have bought a new pair of sunglasses.
196
And these sunglasses actually fit properly.
197
But yeah, new pair of sunglasses.
198
I bought it from one of these stalls over here.
199
There were lots of these little stalls.
200
And so I bought some stalls probably down there.
201
That's where I bought them from.
202
There was a little stall there.
203
And so, yeah, I bought a little pair of sunglasses from there.
204
Much better.
205
Much better than the old ones, you know.
206
Okay, we're at Brydon Beach, tremendous.
207
I love Brydon.
208
I love Brydon, the people, the people are...
209
So this one is for general waste, so like general waste and dog waste as well, so your, the waste from your dog.
210
Things like plastic, cups, food waste, coffee cups, all of these that are just kind of general waste.
211
But then you've got your recycling, plastic bottles, only bottles, drink cans and aerosols.
212
So that's where you put your recycling stuff.
213
More recycling are glass bottles here.
214
So this one is only for glass recycling.
215
And yeah, more general waste, recycling, recycling.
216
So it's important to put the correct waist in the correct bit.
217
So yeah, you can see that the viewpoint thing is actually going up now.
218
So yeah, it will go all the way up to the top, right?
219
So it's going to go all the way up there.
220
Pretty high up, I would say.
221
But yeah, you'll get a pretty good view actually when you get to the top.
222
You can see a lot of people are inside
223
so I guess a lot of people decided to it was worth buying a ticket to go so
224
So as you can see the house
225
that I'm standing next to is upside down right the whole house is upside down
226
but not only that everything inside the house is also upside down
227
so the bed the sofa kitchen table it's all upside down it's actually a tourist attraction
228
and there are a few of these around the country there are a few upside down houses like this but yeah
229
upside down house pretty weird
230
so what are you doing here on in Brighton today I
231
am riding my pogo stick around showing over all my tricks nice
232
and can you do any cool tricks on your pogo stick I can try.
233
