Welcome to Narrator.
2
This is the Obsidian plugin that brings your notes to life with AI-powered voice narration.
3
Let me walk you through how easy it is to transform your written content into professional audio.
4
Before we dive into the features, let's quickly set up the plugin.
5
Open Obsidian Settings and navigate to the Narrator Plugin Settings.
6
You'll see we need two API keys.
7
First, the Narrator API key.
8
This is what powers the text-to-speech engine.
9
Simply paste your key here and save.
10
Second, if you want to use the AI script generation feature, you'll need an Open Router API key.
11
This is optional, but it unlocks some really powerful multi-character narration capabilities.
12
Just paste it in, and we're ready to go.
13
Now let's select a voice.
14
Narrator supports multiple AI voices, and you can preview each one before committing.
15
Click on the voice drop-down to see your options.
16
Let's try Chuckles for this demo.
17
Notice the preview button right here, click it, and you'll hear a sample of what this voice sounds like.
18
Hello, I'm one of the voices available in Obsidian Narrator.
19
Do you like how I sound?
20
Pretty neat, right?
21
This way you can find the perfect voice for your content without any guesswork.
22
Now, let's see the plugin in action.
23
I have a note here with some text I want to review.
24
Maybe I'm editing a blog post and want to hear how it sounds out loud.
25
Watch this.
26
I'll simply highlight the text I want to narrate, right-click and select Narrate Selection from the context menu.
27
Instantly, the audio starts streaming in real-time.
28
There's no waiting for generation to complete.
29
You get immediate playback.
30
Notice the play and pause buttons?
31
You have full control while the narration is happening,
32
and when it's the audio file is automatically saved to your vault in the narration audio folder.
33
You can listen to it again anytime.
34
But what if you want to narrate an entire document?
35
Maybe you have a long article you want to review while commuting or you're creating an audiobook chapter.
36
It's just as simple.
37
Right-click on any markdown file in your file explorer and select narrate from the context menu
38
again streaming starts immediately for longer documents you'll see the status
39
bar controls as the narration progresses you can pause resume or stop at any time The great thing is,
40
Narada uses WebSocket streaming, so even for long documents, you get low-latency playback.
41
No more waiting minutes for a file to generate your listening within seconds.
42
Now, here's where things get really interesting.
43
Let's say you've written a story with dialogue, or maybe you have a transcript with multiple speakers.
44
Narrator can automatically generate a multi-voice script for you.
45
I have a short story here with a narrator and two characters.
46
Watch this right click the file and select create script.
47
The AI analyzes your content, detects the characters, identifies their dialogue,
48
and generates a a properly formatted script file.
49
See how it created this new file with the script suffix.
50
Let's open it.
51
Notice the front matter at the top.
52
The AI has identified three characters,
53
the narrator, a character named Malachius and a character named Patrick.
54
Each one has a voice property that we can customize.
55
Below the front matter, you'll see the script itself.
56
Each line of dialogue is tagged with the character name in brackets.
57
This makes it easy to see who's speaking at a glance.
58
Now for the magic.
59
Let's assign different voices to each character.
60
In the front matter, I'll set the narrator to use Compassion, Malachius will be set to use Wonderstruck,
61
and Patrick will use Slumber Voice.
62
Now comes the best part.
63
Open the menu for the script file or right-click on it.
64
Notice the context menu is different.
65
Instead of narrate and create script, we now see narrate script this is
66
because narrator detected this is a script file click narrate script
67
and listen to what happens each character speaks with their assigned voice the narrator sounds one way
68
and ibrahim sounds completely different it's like having a cast of voice actors at your fingertip.
69
Allow your eyes to adjust, Patrick, and he said softly.
70
The pain will pass.
71
Patrick blinked, then squeezed his eyes shut before opening them wide.
72
Malachias was close, and his large form blocked out the fire which lit the room beyond like a star.
73
His face was calm, almost kind.
74
Lines of age crisscrossed his skin and sprouted from the corners of his eyes, shocks of white ran through his black beard and hair.
75
He looked older than Patrick remembered, and for all the peace in the man's voice and face, Patrick saw the worry in his eyes.
76
I am to record all that happens here, Malachias said. Do you understand Patrick?
77
Patrick looked into the worried eyes of his old friend and said, You are the All Scribe.
78
That is your duty.
79
Everything we just did is available through the command palette.
80
Just press Command or Control-P, type Narator, and you'll see all the available commands.
81
Narrate Active Note for the current file.
82
Create script from Active Note for AI script generation.
83
And narrate script appears when you're viewing a script file.
84
So there you have it, Narrator, in action.
85
From simple text selection to full document narration to multi-character script production,
86
all seamlessly integrated into your Obsidian workflow.
87
Every narration is automatically saved as a high-quality WAV file in your vault,
88
so you can listen again later or export for other uses.
89
Whether you're a writer who wants to hear your work read aloud, a student reviewing notes hands-free,
90
or a content creator producing audiobooks, Narrator makes it effortless.
91
Thanks for watching!
