Shadowing Practice: Axe Throwing - Learn English Speaking with Video

Creating lesson...
1
I went axe throwing in the city a while back.
2
It wasn't cheap, but I figured, where else am I going to throw an axe legally?
3
They had three sizes, small, medium, and large.
4
The small ones were the real challenge.
5
I thought they'd be the easiest since they're lighter, but turns out they're actually the hardest.
6
You throw them one-handed from way back.
7
And they're so light, they just spin like helicopter blades and bounce right off the board.
8
Like, nice try.
9
It took me about 20 throws before I finally stuck one, but once I figured out my form, I was hitting the board maybe half the time.
10
I also tried the medium and large axes.
11
They're way easier because you can stand closer and use both hands.
12
My aim was still terrible, but I'd definitely do it again.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "Axe Throwing" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
