Shadowing Practice: Return from Petronas Tower - Learn English Speaking with Video

Creating lesson...
1
We came down from the Patronus Towers in the late evening and tried to get a ride back to the hotel.
2
But the traffic was terrible.
3
We tried for 30 minutes and no drivers were accepting rides.
4
To make things worse, my phone battery was dying and my power bank was already dead.
5
So with the last bit of battery, I searched for a way to get to Independence Square by train.
6
We'd been there that morning and it was somewhat close to our hotel, but still a few kilometers away.
7
Then we rushed to the train station, which wasn't part of the plan, because I'd heard it was dangerous to use public transport in KL at night, but we had no choice.
8
Funny enough, while waiting for the train, a local Malaysian even asked me for directions.
9
He had no idea it was my first day in Malaysia.
10
My phone died on the train, so we had no directions to follow.
11
The way back from the station had a lot of twists and turns, but my sense of direction kicked in, and we made it back safe and sound.
12
It was a stressful night, but it's one of my favorite adventures in KL.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "Return from Petronas Tower" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
