4
I know there has been a longer gap than usual between day 23 and day 24, but I am really sorry about that.
5
Life got a little busy, but I really missed recording these videos for you all.
6
So today, I am glad to be back and we are continuing our journey together with day 24.
7
So if this is your first time here, welcome.
8
And if you've been practicing English with me from day one, thank you so much for staying with me.
9
So today's topic is something many of us struggle with, learning to accept compliments.
10
Have you ever noticed what happens when someone gives you a compliment?
11
Instead of simply saying thank you, we often say, oh, it's nothing.
12
Or I just got lucky.
13
Or even I don't think I did that well.
14
Sound familiar?
15
So today we'll practice English through a natural conversation about accepting compliments with confidence.
16
You'll also learn some new expressions, vocabulary words and that you can use in real life conversations.
17
Get their meanings and examples in the description box below.
18
For now, relax, listen carefully and repeat after me.
19
Let's begin.
20
For a long time, I found it difficult to accept compliments.
21
It didn't matter to me who the compliment came from.
22
a friend, a family member, a colleague or even a stranger.
23
Whenever someone said something nice about me, I immediately tried to disagree.
24
I remember one day, I had given a presentation at work.
25
I had spent hours preparing for it.
26
I practiced again and again.
27
I wanted everything to be perfect.
28
When the presentation was over, one of my colleagues walked up to me and said,
29
You explained everything so clearly.
30
Instead of saying thank you, I smiled awkwardly and replied, Oh no, I made so many mistakes.
31
She looked at me and said, Really?
32
Because I didn't notice any.
33
That conversation stayed in my mind A few days later Something similar happened again
34
This time someone complimented my English They said You speak English so confidently And once again I replied
35
No, I make so many mistakes Looking back,
36
I realized I had a habit of rejecting compliments Not because I wanted attention But because I genuinely didn't believe them
37
I always focused on my weaknesses.
38
Instead of noticing how much I had improved, I kept thinking about what I still couldn't do.
39
No matter how much progress I made, I never felt enough.
40
I was always chasing perfection.
41
Then one day I came across a simple idea.
42
Someone said, when you reject a compliment,
43
you are also rejecting the kindness behind it.
44
That sentence really made me think.
45
Imagine buying a thoughtful gift for someone.
46
You spend time choosing it.
47
You wrap it with care.
48
You hand it to them with a smile.
49
And they immediately say, no, I don't deserve this.
50
It's not that good.
51
How would you feel?
52
Probably a little disappointed.
53
Not because they rejected the gift.
54
But because they rejected your kindness.
55
Compliments are just like gifts.
56
People don't have to give them.
57
They choose to.
58
because they noticed something good.
59
Maybe your hard work, maybe your kindness, maybe your honesty, maybe your smile or maybe your effort.
60
The least we can do is accept that gift with gratitude.
61
From that day on, I decided to change one small habit.
62
The next time someone complimented me, I didn't make excuses.
63
I didn't argue.
64
I didn't brush it off.
65
I simply smiled and said, Thank you, that means a lot.
66
Honestly, it felt strange at first.
67
I wasn't used to it.
68
But little by little, it became easier. And something surprising happened.
69
Accepting compliments didn't make me arrogant, it made me more grateful.
70
It reminded me that appreciating myself isn't the same as showing off.
71
There is a big difference between confidence and arrogance.
72
Arrogance says, I know I've worked hard.
73
Arrogance says, I'm better than everyone else.
74
The two are not the same.
75
Now when someone says, you've done a great job.
76
I don't search for reasons to disagree.
77
I simply smile and say, thank you, I really appreciate that. And that's enough.
78
I have also started complimenting other people more often.
79
If someone does something well, I tell them.
80
If someone has improved, I let them know.
81
Kind words cost nothing.
82
But they can mean everything.
83
A sincere compliment can brighten someone's day.
84
It can boost their confidence.
85
It can encourage them to keep going.
86
So here is a small challenge for you.
87
Today, give one genuine compliment to someone.
88
And if someone compliments you, don't reject it.
89
Don't make excuses.
90
Don't put yourself down.
91
Just smile and say thank you.
92
You might be surprised how good it feels.
93
Alright, thank you so much for practicing with me today.
94
You know, I'm really happy we are back together for another episode of this series.
95
So if you really enjoyed today's practice, comment day 24, done.
96
Take care, keep practicing, keep smiling.
97
And I'll see you in the next episode.

About This Lesson

You're practicing English with "Day 24| 30- Day Shadowing Practice Series | Learning to Accept Compliments ❤️" using the Shadowing technique — a method originally developed for professional interpreter training.

Focus on sounding like the speaker — not just repeating words. With 15–30 minutes of daily practice, you'll build real-world speaking confidence.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
