Practice Tips

To make the most of your english speaking practice, we recommend using the shadowing technique. Listen closely to the audio or transcript of the conversation and repeat what you hear in real-time. Here are some specific tips for effective practice:

  • Adjust Your Speed: Take note of the speakers' pace. Start slowly if necessary and gradually increase your speed as you become more comfortable.
  • Focus on Tone: Pay attention to the intonation and emotion in their voices. This will help you convey your personality traits more vividly when you speak.
  • Record Yourself: After a few rounds of shadowing, try recording your voice. Listen back to identify areas for improvement in clarity and fluency.
  • Discuss with a Partner: Find a study partner to discuss your personality types and engage in dialogue. This practice can enhance both your speaking and listening skills.

With consistent practice using these methods, you will boost your confidence in speaking about personal topics, making you better prepared for the IELTS speaking test and everyday conversations. Happy learning!

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
