1
Hi everyone!
2
Welcome to a new episode of Beau's Slow English.
3
In today's episode, we are exploring Boston, Massachusetts.
4
Take a look!
5
We are crossing the bridge.
6
The hotel that we are staying at is over here.
7
I've never been to this city before, so I am excited to explore with you.
8
If we haven't met before, my name is Bo.
9
Hi!

12
I post many videos every week and please give me a like to show your support which keeps me motivated.
13
We have a short itinerary for today.
14
Right now we are heading to the Freedom Trail.
15
What is the Freedom Trail?
16
It's just a historical walk where we could see a lot of history that took place in Boston.
17
That was some great new vocabulary.
18
There is a lot of US history in this city and I'm excited to learn all about it.
19
It is extremely windy today.
20
Another way to describe windy is breezy or chilly.
21
And hopefully the wind will die down by tomorrow because tomorrow is the Boston Marathon.
22
And we are here in Boston to support my friend.
23
And I understand now how detrimental it would be if the wind was strong when running the marathon.
24
Do you know the word detrimental?
25
It's kind of a serious word, so maybe I shouldn't have used that word.
26
all that means is it's not a good thing.
27
It is April and there's a saying April showers bring May flowers.
28
What that means is usually in April it's supposed to rain a lot
29
but then in May a lot of flowers will bloom.
30
But luckily while we are on vacation it will not be raining too much.
31
What I really love about the east coast is the various seasons.
32
We have winter, spring, summer and fall
33
and where I currently live in Los Angeles it's basically just a light summer all the time
34
so I miss having four seasons when I travel I tend to walk a lot.
35
Well, a lot for me,
36
which is maybe around 12,000 steps to 18,000 steps per day.
37
Sometimes I will rent a bike if we have to get far
38
and if I don't want to spend money on a cab.
39
This morning we decided to not go to breakfast because we were already running late.
40
Do you know the term running late?
41
it means that we're just late.
42
I'm not sure where the term running late came from, but it just simply means that we're late.
43
Instead of eating breakfast, we ordered some hot tea at a local tea shop
44
and also purchased a croissant.
45
from a local bakery.
46
I also had brought some snacks from home, so
47
that was enough for me we will probably have a
48
nice lunch there's my husband straight ahead say hi
49
I don't know where he's running to I think he's testing out his new bouncy Adidas.
50
The first thing that I notice about Boston is it's more diverse than I had anticipated.
51
Diverse means many groups of of people.
52
It's also a very clean city and you can tell by the architecture how historical it is.
53
My husband loves baseball and he said that he can't come to Boston without seeing Fenway.
54
I guess it's a famous baseball stadium.
55
Let me know in the comments if you love baseball.
56
Growing up I was not a huge fan of baseball because every time I went to a baseball game
57
where I'm from in Baltimore, Maryland they always lost.
58
However, I did play softball with my old church league.
59
I was very young and I did a pretty good job at catching the ball.
60
Do you hear the church bells?
61
Today is Easter.
62
We are We are getting closer to the church bells, so the church must be right around the corner.
63
I hope you can hear me.
64
I'm very close to the church with the ringing bells.
65
We are going to be wrapping around a nice park.
66
I wonder how old this water fountain is.
67
It has no water in it.
68
People are enjoying the weather today, even though it's windy.
69
But I think the locals are probably used to that.
70
There are no leaves on the trees.
71
Do you remember from one of my previous videos what you call these kind of trees?
72
They are called deciduous trees.
73
It's a difficult, or I should say advanced word, deciduous.
74
If we would have come here in a month from now,
75
there would probably be some beautiful leaves on these trees.
76
Boston is also known to have top Ivy League universities such as Harvard.
77
I wish in Los Angeles we had parks like this.
78
This park reminds me of New York.
79
Los Angeles, or LA, is very spread out And there is this one park where there's many,
80
many trees planted there, but it takes about 30 to 40 minutes to drive there.
81
And also, you have to pay to get in.
82
It is not a public park.
83
With that said, LA has a lot of great scenery, and I am grateful for that.
84
I just wish that it was surrounded by more trees.
85
Look at that sculpture over there.
86
That's cool.
87
Do you know the sport that they are playing?
88
This is pickleball.
89
And at first glance, it looks like a mini version of tennis and a large version of ping pong.
90
So if tennis and ping pong got married, that's pickleball.
91
And these people over here are playing tennis.
92
They're really good.
93
We have some people over here playing baseball, or actually they're playing catch,
94
which is where you throw the ball back and forth.
95
The wind just died down.
96
It's really pleasant when the wind is not blowing me over.
97
We are now in Boston Common.
98
It is the oldest public park in the United States.
99
Isn't it beautiful?
100
I love the smell of nature.
101
These are beautiful pine trees.
102
Many people are out enjoying a book or having a picnic.
103
I accidentally did not have the gimbal centered so I have no idea if the video for the past
104
five minutes looks good.
105
If you don't know what a gimbal is,
106
it's the controller for the camera that keeps the video centered.
107
There are a lot of dogs walking around, also enjoying this weather.
108
Oh, take a look at this.
109
This is a goose, right?
110
What do you call multiple gooses?
111
I'll give you a clue.
112
It's not gooses.
113
It's geese.
114
They must be used to being around a lot of people because they are not afraid when we come close.
115
That's a cool canoe-like transportation that is propelled by someone cycling on the back.
116
So it's like a hydro bike canoe.
117
This tree, I bet, is very old and I wish I could climb it.
118
We have some more geese in the water.
119
Excuse me, I just sneezed.
120
By the way, the most polite thing to do when someone sneezes is you tell them bless you.
121
Or if you say it quickly, it's bless you.
122
And if you sneeze, the most polite thing to say is excuse me.
123
Excuse me.
124
I love these trees that have the willow type leaves.
125
That girl is so cute in her Easter outfit.
126
Here is another view of the park.
127
I wish you could smell the nature out here with me.
128
It smells really clean.
129
I do see some flowers shedding off of the trees
130
and perhaps that's why I sneezed because my body is no longer used to this type of pollen.
131
Where are we going now?
132
Newberry Street.
133
We're going shopping to Newberry Street.
134
What kind of shops are on Newberry Street?
135
They said luxury shopping.
136
We're about to be surprised.
137
We are crossing the crosswalk.
138
And look, we have Hermes.
139
Fancy store.
140
Do you know this brand?
141
Their purses probably start at $7,000 Or maybe even start at $10,000
142
Which is crazy I love this brand
143
It's Bottega Veneta It's an Italian brand So we must be on that shopping street That we were trying to get to
144
I will be doing only window shopping on the street.
145
Do you know the term window shopping?
146
It means that you will not physically go into the store.
147
You will shop with just your eyes from the outside.
148
Oh, here we are.
149
Bandit.
150
My husband must already be in there and it's really busy.
151
Wow, excuse me.
152
It's poppin' in here, which is a casual term for it's really busy.
153
Poppin' is short for Hopping.
154
They have running gear specifically for the Boston Marathon, so that's pretty cool.
155
They have shorts, tank tops,
156
sports bras, hats, socks, shoes.
157
This brand of shoe is ASIC.
158
And that's what I'm wearing.
159
ASICs.
160
ASICs are my favorite.
161
They're very comfortable.
162
Did you notice how when I said comfortable, I did not pronounce it as comfortable.
163
It's comfortable.
164
I like this hat that says spectator.
165
Do you know what that is?
166
A spectator is like an audience member watching and I think this was made specifically for the Boston Marathon Supporters.
167
I bought a hat.
168
It is...
169
I knew it.
170
This is exactly why I did not bring my hat from the hotel
171
because I thought the wind would blow it over and look what just happened.
172
I need to make sure that it's really snug on my head.
173
Do you know what snug means?
174
It means tight.
175
We decided to eat at this maybe vegan spot.
176
Let's see if we can get a menu.
177
Can you grab a menu?
178
We received our hot beverage which has fresh lemon, fresh ginger, and honey.
179
This is a hot drink.
180
And we also got the watermelon cooler which has watermelon, cardamom, and mint.
181
We just received our food.
182
I got the bibimbap bowl, which is a Korean style dish.
183
And my husband got a Buddha bowl, which has a ton of vegetables and grains.
184
I'm very full.
185
It was a very filling meal.
186
Have you heard of that term, filling?
187
We are now on our way to the train station to head to the baseball stadium.
188
The train station was very easy to find.
189
Here we are.
190
We're heading down.
191
I love taking trains and using public transportation.
192
I get nauseous when I ride cabs and Ubers because it requires me to sit in the backseat
193
and the motion of the car makes me feel very sick and nauseous.
194
I wonder how old this train station is.
195
We are taking the green line and we have to find where to buy the ticket.
196
Oh, here it is.
197
We need a round trip ticket,
198
which means we need to get to the destination and to come back.
199
So for this kiosk, it requires for you to purchase one ticket at a time
200
So we will need to repeat this process He is tapping
201
to pay The ticket is printing We do not want a receipt And it asked if we'd like to purchase another ticket
202
so he is going through the process one more time.
203
And here is what the ticket looks like.
204
Here we go.
205
Here we are, Arlington, and we need to take it down the T to the D.
206
We asked one of the workers here which way to go.
207
And let's see if we can catch this train.
208
No, we missed it.
209
That's okay, we will catch the next one.

Sobre esta lição

Você está praticando inglês com "A Day in Boston | Slow English Vlog for Beginner English Learners" usando a técnica de Shadowing.
