11
Speaking of challenges, today I want to talk about challenging yourself.
12
Stepping out of your comfort zone and being the dumbest person in the room.
13
Because it's intimidating to be surrounded
14
by people who are smarter than you or better than you.
15
Today, I went to a dance class.
16
I've always loved to dance since I was a little girl.
17
But it's been ages since the last time I went to a dance class.
18
And I went to ballet or contemporary or cumbia dance classes.
19
But today, I went to a different dance class.
20
And all the girls there were so good.
21
Right away, there were so many steps that I was having trouble memorizing.
22
Meanwhile, the other girls were remembering each step as we learned them.
23
Instantly, they had so much flow and rhythm and such a good memory.
24
And I thought, I don't stand a chance against them.
25
And I was almost certain I worked a
26
lot harder than anyone else to remember the choreography.
27
I know this because everybody danced with such free movements.
28
Like they weren't even trying.
29
Meanwhile, I was just stumbling, forgetting every step.
30
But then I realized I wasn't dancing against them.
31
You are almost never really going against someone else.
32
I mean, you can choose to go against someone or you can choose to learn from them.
33
And once I set my mindset to learning from them instead of competing with them,
34
and once I pushed through all of my insecurities,
35
feelings of self-consciousness, embarrassment, and intimidation,
36
then I eventually memorized the choreography.
37
I got there with much more work than the other girls. But I got there.
38
And I got there because I didn't give up.
39
I didn't quit.
40
I got there because despite all my insecurities, I kept going.
41
I didn't give up.
42
I felt so proud of myself after.
43
Even if you look around that room and you see everyone dancing,
44
you probably wouldn't say, Wow,
45
Tiana is an impressive dancer.
46
Probably not.
47
But I am impressed with myself.
48
I am impressed at my huge achievements today.
49

51
Nobody made me feel self-conscious or insecure.
52
It was all in my head.
53
It always is just in your head.
54
But it made me think I want to continue being the worst dancer in the room.
55
Because that means I'm in the right place to improve.
56
No, I'm in the perfect place to improve.
57
Why would you want to be the best dancer in the room?
58
If that's really what you want, then you have to think,
59
are you just trying to impress others?
60
Or are you looking to be your best self?
61
I think it's valid to want to be your best self,
62
but it's not always the best thing to want to impress others.
63
I think you will end up disappointed,
64
disappointed to realize their opinions weren't
65
as rewarding as you thought they were going to be.
66
I challenge you to put yourself in situations where you have something to learn.
67
Put yourself in places where you look dumb.
68
Places where you have the least experience.
69
The least amount of knowledge.
70
Rooms filled with people who are smarter than you, better than you.
71
It's intimidating, I know.
72
But if you look at it this way,
73
you'll feel so proud of yourself after.
74
Then, that little voice inside your head will slowly grow.
75
Just like a flower that you talk to or sing to every day so that it grows.
76
your mind will have that same nurturing voice
77
that says you are capable of doing anything you set your mind to.
78
And then you'll be unstoppable, unbreakable.
79
When was the last time you put yourself in a room where everyone was better than you at something?
80
Now, something I could have done.
81
Whenever we use have, we always follow with the past participle.
82
For example, could have saw,
83
could have seen, could have did, could have done.
84
For example, what would this one be? Could have grew?
85
Tell me in the comments.
86
Now, I could have seen everything differently.
87
I could have chosen to think negative thoughts.
88
To say, oh no, I'm the worst one here.
89
Everyone is judging me.

And I can go to work.
109
I have the ability to make money and have my freedom.
110
I can work.
111
I can walk.
112
I can feel the sun on my skin.
113
I can interact with people, socialize, and surround myself by people.
114
And even if I'm feeling irritated by these circumstances.
115
I make it a game to find beauty in those moments.
116
Another example, a breakup.
117
Someone cheated on you, betrayed you,
118
or or things just ended, you can see all the negatives,
119
much more than the positives.
120
You can tell everyone about all the awful things they did to you,
121
how much of a victim you were,
122
Or you can play my game and feel grateful for the lessons they taught you,
123
for your ability to love, for the experience you got of being loved.
124
You can learn from the lessons they left you and leave the rest.
125
Take it, be grateful for it, and move on.

  • "That little voice inside your head will slowly grow" (Essa pequena voz dentro da sua cabeça irá crescer lentamente)
  • "Stepping out of your comfort zone" (Sair da sua zona de conforto)
  • "I don't stand a chance against them" (Eu não tenho chance contra eles)
  • "Pushed through all of my insecurities" (Superei todas as minhas inseguranças)
  • "I am impressed with my huge achievements today" (Estou impressionado com minhas grandes conquistas hoje)
