The second you turn on this laptop, a message from supposedly Microsoft is requiring you to call their number to stop third party IPs from interacting with your computer.

And as you might have just guessed, this is a total scam.

Fortunately, my customer called me first before they went ahead and did anything, so I told them to go ahead and stop doing what they were doing and bring their system in,

because I couldn't walk them through actually closing it out over the phone.

See most of these scams run through the web browser, but you can simply run something like Task Manager and close out the web browser, or press something like Alt F4 to force close the actual program.

But in both cases that didn't seem to work for this program

and it seems to be running locally

because it was overriding whatever apps we were actually trying to start up and kind of hid them behind it.

And something like a forced restart seemed to look like it was working but eventually the program would pop right back up.

So it looks like we're dealing with some kind of malicious startup program.

So instead of alt tabbing which normally works to go and switch between multiple programs, I went ahead and pressed windows and tab to go and open up a second desktop.

This This finally allowed me to go and open up Task Manager where I was able to actually see
