1
Hello from Paris, hello from LINK 2026.
2
My name is Vladimir Kalovusek
3
and I have a great pleasure to introduce Professor Ricardo Hanel
4
from the States to discuss about what is going on in 2036.
5
What is going on in the future, Ricardo?
6
Thank you, Vlado.
7
It's a great opportunity to be here at LYNC 2026 honoring what I call the first retirement of Professor Jacques Moret.
8
He'll retire more times.
9
I think the future is bright.
10
I think the best way to predict the future is to help build.
11
So here in 2026 we're putting stepstones in place to have a bright future in 2036.
12
How do you see the future regarding autonomous devices and robotics and AI?
13
Are we there yet?
14
Are we doing at all the treatments or are robots taking over?
15
So, I see a great pathway for us to go in the direction of this.
16
I think these things work very close together between artificial intelligence,
17
detection, artificial intelligence, prescription, artificial intelligence,
18
procedure driven by physicians and by robots.
19
I think the robots will be here in 2036.
20
I think the pathway is established.
21
Hopefully in 2026 or 2027 we'll have the first clinical trial for remote thrombectomy.
22
And by 2036 we're going to be having a discussion should we continue with device -specific robots
23
or we should have robots that can operate any devices.
24
And what about the neuroprotection drugs?
25
Are we there yet?
26
Are we started to be at the beginning of something
27
which will be stepping stones and standard of care to protect the brain till we operate or robots will do?
28
Yes, I think for countries and geographic locations that need transportation,
29
I think neuroprotection will play a big role with selective cooling of the brain, with identification of certain drugs
30
that will extend the life of the brain until we can get the vessel open on the same line.
31
Today, what we do for these patients outside of the hospital, inside of the hospital that don't have thrombectomy capabilities is thrombolytics.
32
In the future, in 10 years, we're going to have a cocktail of medications that will be thrombolytics,
33
2B3A, DNAs, and von Willembrand inhibitors.
34
So a cocktail of that will have a mix
35
that can treat a lot of more patients effectively without catheter based therapies
36
and you have more insight than me what about neuroregenerative drugs
37
are we in a place to discuss about stem cell therapy
38
so the brain can recover from all those massive strokes is there potentially in
39
that therapy i think there are two lines here right one what we're leaving in 2026 that is It's vivosteam,
40
it's vagal nerve stimulation, the first one that we can have somebody
41
that is plegic and get a meaningful recovery of that limb function.
42
But stem cells is coming on that direction.
43
And what we see, and that's the beauty of this artificial intelligence,
44
all this information associated, you'll be able to purpose -driven,
45
find drugs that can get to that.
46
Look what happened just last week with pancreatic cancer.
47
More than a 50 % increased survival to one drug because of this specific targeting.
48
This specific target that is happening in cancer today will permeate in other diseases
49
and we'll be able to find these targets so these medications, neuroprotection and the stem cell will be more effective.
50
Yeah, great.
51
Great to see the future.
52
And one last question.
53
We saw a lot of smart technology being present now.
54
All of the normal people, patients wear smart watches, they have the smart telephones.
55
What is the evolution in that for everyday people?
56
Do you see any increase in awareness and potential to help?
57
I think we already walk, all of us walk with a smartphone.
58
There's an accelerometer inside of those phones.
59
You can detect patient behavior pattern.
60
In the near future, these machines that we walk in, these smartphones, they'll be able to tell.
61
You're not following, you didn't give your 20 steps this morning, why you're not moving.
62
So the machine will be interacting with you
63
and it'll be detecting these wake -up strokes and we don't know for how long these people have been on the floor.
64
The machine will be there and we are on verge of doing holographic transmissions
65
that you can have somebody present even though that person is not truly there.
66
So you can easily see, even before 2036, that you're going to have a companion at your home
67
if you're an elder person high risk you have a holographic
68
companion there talking to you not like alexa talking to you or
69
or speaker talk to you is a is a projection is
70
a hologram they'll be there it's a grandma why you didn't get out of bed yeah
71
so i think this is going to be very advanced
72
and you'll be able to help these people quicker yeah thank you ricardo
73
so it's great to see all those insights
74
and to conclude I'm future is bright in a stroke care
75
if you agree on me with that and we tend to see
76
that the treatment will be possible for the further location
77
which there are not physician near their present will be IE driven by robots
78
if we as a physician could not do it with the standard of care
79
which we is going to be appropriate like a physician does it
80
and the prevention
81
and awareness will be even more present to help the the senior citizens to take care of themselves
82
and to arrive to to hospitals we can get even more for the treatment
83
so thank you thank you for your time
84
and it was a real pleasure to have this conversation thank you Thank you, Vlade.
85
Thank you.
