1
I'm sorry.
2
Thank you.
3
Greetings from the rainforest of Panama.
4
I want to begin by asking you a question.
5
How global is your faith?
6
The majority of Christians today live globally connected lives.
7
The State of the Great Commission report notes that approximately 60 % of the world is connected to the internet globally.
8
Every day we consume international news entertainment, food, media, music, ideas, etc. And yet,
9
our Christian faith is often lived in the opposite way.
10
culturally confined and relationally limited.
11
we settle for a monocultural, one -dimensional version of Christianity that reflects only a thin slice of what God is doing around the world.
12
Why does this matter?
13
Because our God is a global God.
14
That means our faith is international and our mission is global.
15
In 1 Corinthians 12, 12 through 27, Paul writes to the Corinthians: and explains that we all form part of the body of Christ.
16
He concludes, All of you together are Christ's body and each of you is a part of It.
17
There's a powerful Zulu word that encapsulates Paul's description of the church.
18
Ubuntu.
19
often translated as "I am because we are." Or I am because you are If you belong to Christ,
20
you belong to everyone who belongs to Christ.
21
The African church is sometimes accused of being a mile wide and an inch deep.
22
But in reality, many of us in the global church risk having a faith that is a mile deep
23
but only an inch wide.
24
We are spiritually underdeveloped.
25
Not because we lack depth.
26
But because we lack, Global width.
27
God's vision is to gather every people, tribe and tongue in worship.
28
This desire is expressed throughout the biblical narrative from Genesis to Revelation.
29
We see this from the very start of the biblical narrative.
30
God's promise to Abraham in Genesis 12 :1 -3, where God promises to bless Abraham so that all families on Earth would be blessed.
31
I'm sorry we see it at the end of the Bible and the book of Revelation.
32
John has a vision.
33
Revelation 7 :9 -11 a great multitude from every nation, tribe, people and language, worshipping before the throne of God.
34
Jesus himself came to fulfill that vision.
35
in the most famous verse in the Bible, John 3 :16.
36
We read that God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son.
37
And then Jesus commissioned his church to continue to see that vision brought to reality.
38
Matthew 28 :19 -20: "Go and make disciples of all nations." God has a heart.
39
for the nations.
40
and is knitting us all together as one body.
41
to reflect his glory and bring him Praise.
42
We are a Pardifa vibrant sacrificial, spirit -led community of believers across Africa,
43
Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
44
Global discipleship isn't a specialty.
45
It's simply Christianity.
46
And we have much to learn from one another.
47
Let's return to the question we began with, how global is your faith.
48
How we answer that question is so important because it indicates whether our faith is truly just an inch wide and
49
may inspire you to follow Christ in developing a love, for the nations. But here's the challenge.
50
We cannot truly grow in global discipleship if we see ourselves as Self -sufficient.
51
global discipleship begins with humility.
52
the recognition that We need the rest of the body of Christ, not just for partnership and mission, but for our spiritual formation.
53
And that is why Four of the most dangerous words a Christian can say are: I Don't.
54
Need you.
55
you In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul makes it clear, We cannot say this.
56
We all need each other for personal growth and our shared global mission.
57
How can we become more intentional in growing our global discipleship?
58
This series.
59
will help you take small but meaningful steps toward growing in global discipleship.
60
Think of these steps as spiritual practices, just like prayer, silence, Bible study, and Sunday worship help us grow deep in our faith.
61
We need spiritual practices that help us grow wide in our faith.
62
So number one, Get to know your global family.
63
and the state of her mission.
64
Imagine this like a Big family reunion where you discover the rich, beautiful diversity of the Bride of Christ.
65
Number two, Practice global prayer and global learning.
66
Pray for the global church with a global heart.
67
listen to and learn from our sisters and brothers all around the world.
68
Number three, Practice global friendship and collaboration.
69
Build deep cross -cultural relationships.
70
join others in collaborative efforts to advance God's kingdom across Borders.
71
And number four, how local is your faith?
72
Be rooted in your local context.
73
intentionally engage in your local faith.
74
community.
75
Let this be the beginning of a journey One where your heart expands with God's love for the nations,
76
and your discipleship is shaped by your local church, and the global church.
77
Let's pray together.
78
Lord, give me eyes to see your church as it is.
79
Global.
80
Diverse.
81
beautiful and united.
82
Expand my heart for the nations.
83
Grow my Faith.
84
Not just deeper but broader.
85
and help me to live out your mission with the global family of God.
86
Amen.
87
Thank you.
88
