1
Hello, and welcome back to my Slow English Podcast.
2
Today, we will be reading Swimming by Leo Leone.
3
Read slow English children's books with me.
4
A happy school of little red fish lived in a corner of the sea somewhere.
5
They were all red.
6
only one of them was black black as
7
a muscle shell he swam faster than his brothers and sisters.
8
His name was Swimmy.
9
One day a bad tuna fish,
10
swift, fierce, and very hungry came darting through the waves.
11
In one gulp, he swallowed all the little red fish.
12
Only Swimmy escaped.
13
He swam away in the deep wet world.
14
He was scared, lonely, and very sad.
15
But the sea was full of wonderful creatures and as he swam from marvel to marvel,
16
Sumi was happy again.
17
He saw a medusa made of rainbow jelly.
18
A lobster who walked about
19
like a water moving machine strange
20
fish pulled by an invisible thread a forest of seaweeds
21
growing from sugar candy rocks.
22
An eel whose tail was
23
almost too far away to remember too far away
24
and see anemones who looked like
25
pink palm trees swaying in the wind.
26
Then, hidden in his dark shade of rocks and weeds,
27
He saw a school of little fish, just like his own.
28
Let's go and swim and play and see things, he said happily.
29
We can't, said the little red fish.
30
The big fish will eat us.
31
But you can't just lie there, said Swimmy.
32
We must think of something.
33
Swimmy thought and thought and thought.
34
Then suddenly he said, I have it.
35
We are going to swim all together like the biggest fish in the sea.
36
He taught them how to swim close together,
37
each in his own place.
38
And when they had learned to swim like one giant fish,
39
he said, I'll be the eye.
40
And so they swam in the cool morning water and in the midday sun
41
and chased the big fish away.
42
The end.
43
I have a few questions for you.
44
First one, Why do you think Swimmy managed to escape from the big fish?
45
Two.
46
Was the eel's tail long or short?
47
Three.
48
Why was Swimmy the eye?
49
when they made the big fish?
50
And four, what do you think the moral of this story is?
