It is Friday, October 2nd.
2
Let's talk PlayStation.
3
Welcome back, everyone, to another Ace Combat episode of LTPS.
4
It's been, again, a very busy week.
5
Like, there is so much happening for PS Studios.
6
Rumors, confirmed news, PS5 hardware.
7
So let's begin, as always, with our PS Plus reminders.
8
This is your last call for the September games before they go away.
9
So claim those, get that done.
10
This coming Tuesday on October 6th, It's going to change over to F -125 on PlayStation 5, Hunt Showdown 1896 on PlayStation 5,
11
and Earth Defense Force World Brothers 2 on PS4 and PS5.
12
Now, I think it would be fair to say this is a very weak lineup for Essential, one of the worst we've had in a long time.
13
And every October, they seem to drop the ball on not including at least one horror game.
14
I think that seems to make the most sense.
15
But I will say F1, I've heard it's a really solid racing game.
16
Same for Hunt Showdown.
17
It's just, you know, it's a bit more novel in it being an extraction shooter.
18
It's like a PvP bounty hunting game.
19
It's got PvE elements in there as well, but, you know, that doesn't really cast a wide net on people enjoying that experience.
20
And then Earth Defense Force, you know, I'll bet for this game, it is fun.
21
It's the weird offshoot franchise or portion of it where it's like Minecraft blocky looking, but, you know, those games, they're very mindless and fun.
22
I like to call them podcast games
23
because you really don't have to pay attention and you're just mindlessly shooting giant ant aliens, and that's what that franchise is.
24
But it's not for everybody, so I would say this is a very weak lineup for PS Plus in October.
25
Now, with that in mind, we should also do a PSA for those final games on PS Plus Extra for the September lineup, so these are now live for those in the US, UK, and Japan.
26
That is Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, Dungeons of Hinterberg, and Sniper Elite Resistance, which that game is still on Essential,
27
so you can claim that to your library properly now we can also say
28
that unfortunately those toy story games they did get delisted
29
which this lined up more so with the date we saw from the xbox store page
30
because that notice was for september 29th so initially we saw those games
31
or at least two of them were going to be unbundled from ps plus premium's game collection catalog
32
so they left you could still buy them
33
and then buzz lightyear was still on there now they all
34
three of these games are delisted from the playstation store so that's Toy Story 2 on PS1, Toy Story 3, the PSP game,
35
which is incredibly different from the console PS3 360 versions, which that is more tragic to lose that, and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command on PS1.
36
All three are no longer available on the PlayStation Store.
37
You can't play them through the collection.
38
You can't buy them, and that was part of the PSA, and that, okay, this upcoming Toy Story collection is coming out soon.
39
They're probably going to delist them, and so it's a shame that that did happen, but if you did get your purchase in, then you at least know that game is always available in your collection.
40
You can always re -download it from there.
41
Anyway, let's move on to our first news story, which is a very surprising announcement from PlayStation, which is a new AI Upscaler for base PS5 consoles.
42
So we have PSSR for PS5 Pro.
43
Now all PS5 consoles, the base models, get QSSR, which is Quick Spectral Super Resolution.
44
And this is indeed a new AI Upscaler, a machine learning technique where PlayStation calls this a streamlined neural network architecture
45
and a hand -tuned implementation that maximizes performance on PlayStation 5.
46
Now, so far, they've only shown two games, Wolverine and Ghost of Yote, but both of these games are patched and ready to go.
47
It's already deployed in these two games, so immediately this announcement came out.
48
Two games already have it turned on by default, so they seem pretty confident in the results, and so far, it does look quite good.
49
Now, I want to quickly add before we get into this, there is still a key difference on PSSR versus this.
50
PS5 Pro has ML Silicon on the console, so it really does heavily accelerate the results,
51
and you're seeing games still punch pretty high above their weight on PS5 Pro versus at least the base console.
52
But we do have some initial comparisons and testing.
53
Digital Foundry had some hands -on coverage with these two games, and so they had a great explanation of what we're seeing so far with QSSR,
54
and QSSR on its own does have a noticeable difference if the game's native resolution is lower, targeting an upscale of 1440p,
55
or in some cases 4k.
56
The issue with upscaling all the way to 4k is that the frame time cost is much bigger, so Digital Foundry found it to be like 4 .4 milliseconds
57
when playing Wolverine in uncapped fidelity mode that targets a 2160p output.
58
The frame time cost is a lot less on the uncapped performance mode.
59
It's about 1 .5 to 1 .8 milliseconds where the target resolution is lower at 1440p.
60
And, you know, the frame time is something you don't have to worry about as a consumer, but for developers where all these, you know, ML solutions have a cost,
61
like there's always an associated frame time cost for this stuff.
62
And for context, PSSR on PS5 Pro is about two milliseconds.
63
So you know where your budget stands on implementing PSSR.
64
So it seems like the best use case is very much
65
for those more blurry performance mode settings for what we've seen in a lot of PS5 games, more so I would say later generation.
66
I mean, we're seeing more and more games kind of push the upper end of the console and what it can do.
67
So we're seeing lower internal resolutions and then upscales up to 1440p or very aggressively up to 4K.
68
And you're getting, yeah, like reliable frame rates in the 60s, but you are still getting games that are now more on the blurry side on those base consoles. And
69
so Wolverine seems to be a very good example of the
70
image quality really being cleaned up those finer details resolving in
71
a nicer way you know not having nearly as many artifacts
72
and things like hair or foliage when things are moving around
73
so it's a really strong result for base consoles which is awesome
74
and we are hearing it's mostly an easy solution to implement
75
so we are hearing this from Daniel Craig a principal engineer for graphics
76
and R &D at SIE and they say QSSR is mostly a drop -in solution
77
so if a game has PSSR you can drop in QSSR for the base performance profile for that game pretty easily.
78
If there's no implementation whatsoever, then it sounds like it could be just a few days of work, and that's going to include some testing, validating, and the adjustment phase, what have you so forth.
79
Some studios might have to make some adjustments to streaming, but we're hearing for the most part it's easy to put into games, and that's big, especially for where we are in the life cycle,
80
where it's generally understood, and the sentiment is, that PS5 will stay very relevant deep into PlayStation 6.
81
So this is a huge boon to tens of millions of base consoles out there.
82
This is awesome, especially in the face of, you know, that idea that, okay, PSSR, that's kind of a paywalled PS5 Pro type of thing.
83
Sony wants that reasonable gap between their consoles, especially with diminishing returns so you know you would think
84
that they would not be doing something like this behind the scenes
85
but sure enough they did and it's already deployed in two games
86
so that's uh it's huge this is we're seeing some great results
87
so far and you can't deny
88
that this is actually pretty awesome all right let's get into
89
some playstation studios news with god of war lao fe the
90
pre -orders are now live for this game both physical
91
and digital and unsurprisingly the game is going to be a full -price $70 game, still coming out February 16th.
92
If you do happen to pre -order, then you get a Last Wish armor set and the Frank Golden Leaves appearance, which appears to be purely cosmetic,
93
and also an in -game resource pack.
94
The Digital Deluxe Edition is $80 USD that comes with a Dark Alchemy armor set, a Blade, Bow Scales, Catalyst,
95
another resource pack, and the Digital Mini Artbook and official Gaudibor Laufey Digital Soundtrack and as for the armor set, the blade, things like that,
96
that can all be unlocked naturally in game
97
so you don't have to pre -order if you don't want to
98
but on the PlayStation blog announcing the pre -orders we did see two new screenshots
99
and one of them shows Faye
100
and Kratos in what appears to be a Greek temple which
101
that on its own is causing a lot of speculation
102
because as we saw from the initial 20 minute opening sequence Kratos does make a brief appearance
103
and that's the thing right Like, in the context of the story, it's Fae passing away, going to this afterlife called the Everyone, which is all the gods from different mythologies,
104
and so I think it was, like, natural to think, like, oh, God, like, you're gonna see a lot of the Greek gods in here as well.
105
So as far as the environment is concerned and how Kratos sort of like weaves into that, because it's got to be some sort of spiritual,
106
higher plane, mental connection type of thing.
107
I mean, Kratos had those sort of visions throughout Ragnarok.
108
So I'm very curious to see how it would shake out and how Kratos is going to appear, how frequent that will certainly be very fun to explore.
109
But we did also see a gameplay clip as well, a very short one.
110
This was highlighting Faye using the serpent bow.
111
And this really does show off the more DMC -like aerial combat.
112
It's very combo -heavy.
113
You can free -aim or you can hip -fire.
114
So, you know, gameplay, this is where the game can really carve out a different path for itself
115
because we already know it's going to be a lot more vertical
116
and you're going to be jumping and stringing together combos in a different way than what we saw throughout 2018 in Ragnarok.
117
So, you know, between that and visuals, the game is still an absolute stunner.
118
I'm still shocked at how gorgeous it looked from
119
that 20 -minute presentation but that and the story I I'm loving everything I'm seeing
120
so far and so the game now has pre -orders available
121
and there's a bunch of junk on there too
122
if you want to pre -order and get all that stuff ahead of time Now,
123
God of War Laufei is also a great time to mention one very interesting and neat resource that just came out, which is this new website called PS Store DB made by Maki,
124
where it's very much like Steam DB in that, one, you can log into it and you can track your gameplay hours and your trophies, build out a profile like that,
125
so it's very handy for that.
126
But you can also track games on all the regional PlayStation stores to see how well they're doing, look at price changes, things like that.
127
But in the case of game sales and pre -orders, for example, we can see God of War Lao Fei shot up to number two on nearly every PlayStation store,
128
only being beaten by GTA 6, which at least for that game, which is very much an outlier, you know, there's very few times I think where any game is going to outpace that.
129
So we can say, generally speaking, Lao Fei is doing incredibly well.
130
But this does add to the online discourse, right?
131
I think for a lot of games, the past how many years now it's been a common practice
132
for major AAA titles where people talk about the pre -orders
133
and how well the game is doing oh it's number one on Amazon it's been on Amazon for
134
so and so months and same for like different PS stores
135
but you know generally that stuff is judged in a vacuum
136
because people don't go out of their way to check all the different stores you know
137
so it's not usually the best metric
138
and that's why I don't care to ever mention that all the game's number one on pre -orders.
139
It's like, okay, well, is it like that everywhere?
140
Probably not, or it's hard to say, right?
141
So at the very minimum, if we wanna humor those conversations, PS Store DB seems to be a pretty good way to
142
get at least a bird's eye view of all the different PlayStation stores to see like, okay, it is benchmarking pretty high.
143
And for a game like this, it's not too surprising, but it is neat to see in practice for, you know, what is a new site
144
and having a new high profile game be announced and see the effect on every storefront, again, from just a faraway glance.
145
So it at least adds a little bit more credibility to the conversation if we want to humor the pre -order cycle,
146
which that is still not nearly as indicative of the game's end sales by the time it does come out.
147
There's still a lot of unknowns, but in the here and now we can say, Lao Fei, the general sentiment seems to be encouraging and people are pre -ordering the game en masse.
148
Moving on to Naughty Dog, where there is a lot going on for the studio because this past week was The Last of Us Day,
149
formerly Outbreak Day, which it took place on the 28th this year, not the 26th.
150
But on Monday, they did announce a number of things.
151
So for example, there's now new official separate social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter for the franchise if you want updates on just this IP alone.
152
And there's also a new Clicker armor set confirmed for Ghost of Yote's Most Wanted mode, which does look pretty cool, so I'll give them that.
153
There's also a Clicker U2's figure, which is available for pre -order right now until October 26th.
154
There's also a Last of Us Part 1 and 2 PS5 Welcome Hub background, which combines both the arts.
155
Looks pretty neat.
156
There's a Last of Us PSN avatar set you can redeem.
157
There's also some Steam avatars.
158
And Naughty Dog also put out this one -hour -long subway ambiance video on their YouTube channel, which is very much a ASMR,
159
leave it on in the background kind of thing.
160
The red flashing light subway sequence and the ambient noises.
161
So if you want to be a little bit creeped out and it's October, I guess you can have that on from now on.
162
But the really big news comes by way of the end of the Last of Us Day celebration, where on Naughty Dog's site,
163
we have Neil Druckmann giving some very important updates on this IP and Intergalactic.
164
So for The Last of us, Druckmann wrote, and I quote here, since Grounded 2, we've talked about the possibility of telling more stories in the world of The Last of Us.
165
We have a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages, so we can't say much about them at this point.
166
I will tell you that both projects will expand the canon of The Last of Us Beyond Part 1 and Part 2.
167
The world of The Last of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn't return to it unless we had something meaningful to say.
168
We believe these stories are worth telling." So this is huge.
169
This is a far more direct acknowledgement of what this is, because if you remember previously, we had Neil Druckmann on Naughty Dog's site say the same thing,
170
just in the sense that it was okay a couple of projects in the works, and that's where you have to be a bit more careful because projects could be anything.
171
They do merchandising, they do The Last of Us Day every year, they're doing location -based entertainment.
172
There's the TV show.
173
Obviously, it would be great if they were games.
174
Now it seems like this is a more direct acknowledgement of, okay, we have two stories we want to tell, canon and the universe.
175
Like, they're not outright saying it, but it's pretty semantic that I think it would be fair to say these are games, and one of them is part three.
176
Another one could be a separate smaller experience a different story
177
that again is canon but it's not strictly part of the characters
178
that we know and love or maybe it is
179
but it's like tommy you know because that was a thing
180
that was being discussed for a little bit
181
but it's you know one thing is clear right this ip is very boutique
182
and it means a lot to not just playstation
183
but certainly naughty dog they're very protective of it
184
and they did spend a substantial amount of time on a multiplayer live service game
185
that got a little bit too big the scope creep hit them
186
and you know that fork in the road of single player or this game, and then we have to be stuck maintaining it for an indefinite amount of time, right?
187
And so it's all good that they chose what I believe to be the correct path, but they spent a lot of time and money and they lost time doing that Last of Us game,
188
but it's still a property that they don't want to walk away from.
189
And as we'll talk about with more Naughty Dog Stories, the studio's roadmap is probably heavily comprised of risk and mitigating risk
190
and you have established properties that you love
191
and care about you can't leave them on the table for too long I would argue
192
if they are as big as they are
193
and with games as costly as they are you know it's not as easy to experiment nowadays
194
and also there's just enough time passed between these projects
195
so I think it was only a matter of time
196
that we eventually see potentially Naughty Dog looking to go back to The Last of Us with something meaningful
197
and that could very much be part three.
198
Now as for Intergalactic the Heretic Prophet, the update here is that the studio is heads down, still working on the game,
199
they're still calling it the most ambitious game they've made so far, but they need more time to cook just a little bit longer, and they want to set expectations,
200
they'll be quiet for the rest of the year.
201
But 2027, they will fully reveal the game, and the post closes out with new concept art of Jordan facing the alien planet of Semperia,
202
which that on its own does look cool.
203
I guess it's not even necessarily an alien planet, but that's the thing, right?
204
There's still so many unknowns about the game, but just that concept art does set the mood and the tone very well.
205
But the great thing here is, yeah, they set the record straight.
206
You're not going to see it at the TGAs.
207
That, at least to me, was the running theory that made the most sense
208
and I was of the opinion
209
that the game is going to show up again at the TGAs if they are planning to launch it sometime next year.
210
PlayStation
211
and their studios have kind of been in this you know
212
pipeline of next time we show the game in a big
213
substantial way like we can get semantic on the first time you see it whether it's a teaser
214
or something like Wolverine where they didn't even make the game yet
215
but that sort of like proper next reveal story trailer gameplay trailer, you know, like, like the first time we saw Lao Fei was 20 something minutes,
216
like when they show that kind of footage, the game's closer than we think.
217
And so that's kind of where intergalactic is of the next time they show it, you should expect that it would launch within six ish something months, hopefully.
218
The problem is Naughty Dog is a studio famously known for not hitting deadlines reliably, right?
219
So I still would love to see the game come out on time If we're hearing it's like mid -27, maybe a little bit in the back half, what have you.
220
But I would have thought the TGAs would be a great place to do that.
221
So I would honestly posit that maybe they were trying to hit the TGAs and couldn't.
222
But that's just pure speculation on my part.
223
I just, I enjoy that, okay, it's not going to be at the TGAs.
224
We know PlayStation does like to be there with something.
225
So maybe we could still see something else.
226
It just will not be this game
227
but at the very minimum whether the game launches on time
228
or not I really do want to see it
229
and I hope we see it sooner rather than later in 2027
230
because I am just really I am deeply fascinated by what this game is
231
when we get when we look at the gameplay
232
and the moment -to -moment combat like what are they cooking up here that's what I'm ready to take a look at.
233
In other Naughty Dog news, we have a big update for the ongoing speculation that there's a new Uncharted game on the way, and it does seem like that is what's going on.
234
So this past week, over on Twitter, we had NateTheHate, where somebody asked them about the project at Naughty Dog that Sean Escage is working on, and if it's The Last of Us related,
235
Nate simply said no. Then we had this report from MP First, where based on sources familiar with the situation,
236
that Naughty Dog is working on a new Uncharted game.
237
Now, they can't confirm the protagonist.
238
They don't know who it is, but they've been told Nathan Drake is in there in some way, shape, or form.
239
And pertinently, the game is described as all new, not a remake.
240
And it should be coming after Intergalactic, and then after that is The Last of Us Part 3.
241
Now, they do say the Uncharted game is Sean's project.
242
He's directing it.
243
And if you remember from earlier this year, he shared
244
that photo of an old cannon on his personal Instagram where
245
people found out it was a site visit to Trinidad and Tobago.
246
which is a very Uncharted -like location, so I mean, it's something where it's the safest speculation around, but yeah, it seems like this is a new Uncharted game,
247
so it's not a confirmation, but we've got some sources, we've got Nate saying it, we've got the site visit, studios do that all the time, like, okay, it sounds like we're going back to this IP,
248
and I am for it.
249
I think we had LTPS episodes back in 2017, after The Lost Legacy, and then also episodes,
250
you know, early 2020, where we were talking about that rumor of a possible Uncharted 1 remake.
251
And it's like, you know, I'm fine with certain IP being put down for a little bit.
252
That's okay.
253
I mean, that's why I think PlayStation in many ways can be great with their studios, their management, and their creative output is that it's okay to put something down and try something else. But,
254
you know, Uncharted is one of those safer IPs
255
and it is something where the game is culturally relevant and it's very impactful.
256
You know, the effects of Uncharted are still felt to this day in the sense that
257
that franchise really put 3D action platformers on the map with
258
really exploring this idea of larger -than -life set pieces and cinematics, and Uncharted's big.
259
It's one of the bigger PlayStation IPs out there, and circling back to what we talked about with the studio roadmap and risk mitigation.
260
Something like Intergalactic is risky.
261
It's new.
262
It's unproven.
263
It's very costly, so there has to be something on the back burner in the pipeline of, okay, here's the more safe bet, which is a new Uncharted game.
264
And that's, that's great.
265
Like it's been put down long enough.
266
I'm ready to go back to it.
267
I think it would be fantastic to see whatever this is.
268
We don't know if it's like a proper Uncharted 5, maybe another sort of offshoot thing.
269
And we don't know if it's Drake or not based on the ending of Uncharted 4.
270
It's tough to say, but I mean, it's, it's awesome.
271
I'm good.
272
I'm ready.
273
Like let's do it.
274
Especially knowing that, okay, like this game, I would think is maybe going to come out before 2030, just off the back of if intergalactic launches mid 27,
275
late 27, whatever the case is, you're going to have a lot of people then funnel into the Uncharted game.
276
If that's, you know, on time and not running into major hurdles, you're going to do full production and full production is like two -ish something years.
277
So we might have the game before 2030, actually.
278
The Last of Us Part 3, that's a different story.
279
That's probably deep 2030s, but at least based on what we're hearing right now, that is Naughty Dog's roadmap.
280
I find it to be believable, and it's also something that greatly excites me as a Naughty Dog fan.
281
We're getting a new IP, going back to Uncharted, and then possibly exploring more of The Last of Us, which by the time that comes out, we would have had nothing for The Last of Us for 10 -something years,
282
you know, which sucks, right?
283
Because we know we had the multiplayer thing, but we're not going to open up that can again.
284
So it's just based on what we're hearing, it all lines up.
285
And, you know, for me, it's exciting.
286
Now, another rumor from NateTheHate going over an older PlayStation IP coming back is an even older IP, that being Ape Escape.
287
We are hearing that maybe this is returning as well.
288
So over on Reset Era on the PS Studios OT, people were discussing those rumors about older IP being brought back.
289
We've heard about Killzone, Infamous, and also Ape Escape was mentioned, so NateTheHate was asked to weigh in, and he responded with, and I quote here,
290
As I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises, end quote, with the eyes emoji going crazy.
291
So somebody assumed it was Team Asobi doing it.
292
Nate said it's not them.
293
He also clarified it's not Bandai Namco, not a situation like that where they licensed out the IP, but he's not 100 % certain.
294
Either way, assuming this is to be believed, this is encouraging.
295
Ape Escape, I will say, that was like the one PlayStation IP where it's kind of
296
in this weird middle ground of no mainline entry since the PS2 days.
297
The last proper entry was like PlayStation Move 2010, right?
298
Like as a full -scale retail -esque experience.
299
And Ape Escape is still like a very
300
novelty maybe not novelty it's a known playstation property it has an identity more
301
so in japan and europe less so in the u .s
302
but like in japan strictly speaking like
303
that is right next to your astrobot in the more modern times
304
or toro ina ue but like the ape escape monkey is always known
305
and shown off and used in marketing materials and merchandise they're selling keychains
306
and trinkets like ape escape is just such a known thing in the playstation headspace even today, 16 years later from the last big release.
307
So, Ape Escape, I think, always sort of had a chance to maybe come back in some way, shape, or form.
308
And maybe now is the time.
309
I don't know if PlayStation is making a more conscious effort to maybe buck this trend and this identity crisis of.
310
Our games are so well -known as being the third -person action, over -the -shoulder cinematic storytelling games.
311
And look, to their credit, they've had Ratchet & Clank Ripped Apart or Sackboy A Big Adventure or the Lego Horizon games.
312
And you could say, oh, that was six years ago, that was three years ago, or what have you.
313
But it's like games take forever to make.
314
No matter what, they're going to kind of feel very sparse.
315
They are still doing these games, but I'm curious
316
if there's a conscious effort of let's one go back into
317
the ip treasure treasure chest see what we can do in modern times
318
and two try to do more of them we just need outside help
319
because apparently it's not team asobi
320
and i don't think it should be i think they should stick with astrobot with
321
that property and evolve it and flesh it out even further
322
but you know who else is doing it who did they sign on
323
and what can they they spin up can this be a very parallel experience to astrobot
324
and that you know that game was made on a disciplined budget, 60 people, won tons of awards, and it's a fun, colorful 3D platformer.
325
It's a feel -good video game, and a modern Ape Escape could be that as well.
326
I sincerely hope this is the start of something fresh, new, and encouraging for PlayStation,
327
very much during this fan sentiment where things feel like they're at an all -time low.
328
Seeing a new Ape Escape would be really fun.
329
Really, really fun.
330
I hope this does pan out.
331
Next up, we have a new -ish patch for Marvel's Wolverine.
332
I say new -ish because we had one yesterday for QSSR.
333
The one before that, which was last Friday after LTPS came out, was another one for scent rails.
334
So now they are fully allowing you to toggle scent rails and audio cues for all the collectibles.
335
So you can turn off scent rails for the whiskey bottles
336
you can turn off the audio cues for material crates
337
and you can turn off the roots for the nightmare doors as well
338
so all that is gone if you want them to be gone
339
and they fixed a few other bugs in the patch
340
but insomniac does say at the bottom that story critical sense will still appear
341
so i'm not sure if like this is the end
342
if they will offer a toggle for that or not
343
because i would assume the whole idea for the game obviously
344
in universe of like Logan saying oh I sense something I smell something he actually sniffs something
345
and follows it I would think they want those things stay on for the default experience
346
but it is great
347
that like in two weeks they they really did address I
348
would say most of the broad issues people had with the game with a lot of hand holding
349
which was primarily for those collectibles because
350
that was again the weird issue with the game in the review period is this idea
351
that the scent trail was always there.
352
It wasn't, but it was there for, you know, contextually story heavy stuff of Logan as a character.
353
If you had a problem with the cues for all the collectibles, you can't turn those off.
354
And I like that they were able to really take in
355
that feedback by heart and able to address it in such a timely manner.
356
Now I did mention earlier for The Last of Us Day with the clicker armor set
357
and Ghost of Yote's most wanted mode.
358
There actually is other PlayStation -themed outfits as well, so that's really cool because they're doing one for Helldivers, Astro Bot, and also Journey,
359
and these are all for the most wanted mode, but if you do happen to unlock them, you can use them in the base game, the Sekigahara DLC, and Legends as well,
360
so it's at least something earnable in the most wanted mode, then you can use it wherever.
361
You know, as a PlayStation fan, I do always love the crossover and the different outfits.
362
That does tend to happen pretty often.
363
Saros just had those too, which is, it's always really neat to see those.
364
But yeah, Most Wanted came out.
365
The DLC came out.
366
That's all live right now, so people are checking it out.
367
Seems like the reviews are pretty good for it as well.
368
Now, this one is not too surprising, but it's now been confirmed.
369
Kena, Scars of Cosmora has officially been delayed to 2027, confirmed by Ember Lab over on the PlayStation blog, where they said they need more time for the game.
370
It's still coming to PS5 and PC, so one of the few final, I would imagine, single -player PlayStation Studio games that Sony signed where the PC version is still coming,
371
and we know a PS5 physical version is still coming as well, so that's great, but now it is put out there, confirmed 2027.
372
No release window.
373
They're not saying Q1, Q2, anything like that.
374
Probably the safe way to put it anyway, so whenever they have a more accurate timeline they can put out there, I'm sure they'll eventually do that.
375
All right, moving on to some general PlayStation and Sony news with a very big one,
376
and that is the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas for next year, January 2027.
377
Sony will not be there.
378
They have pulled out of the event, which is big because they've been going to CES for 60 -something years.
379
Modern Sony is a lot different nowadays, of course, because yes, they do have some electronics like headphones and
380
cameras and they've well they spun off the bravia tv business
381
that was with tcl and sony's the minority investor of
382
that company they're 49 versus tcl's 51
383
but the sony honda mobility initiative is dead
384
and the last two years of ces half of
385
that was the afila one car so that's gone
386
and i mean ces the last five something years a lot of it has been them talking about playstation productions
387
or Sony music and the anime space, right?
388
Because that's what Sony is nowadays.
389
They are an entertainment company primarily.
390
They have electronics, but they've spun off a lot since then.
391
And a lot of it is simply entertainment nowadays.
392
You know, CES was the stage where like we've had more PlayStation announcements there as of late, not major ones.
393
They'd give us some brief updates or do a game announcement like we saw with Horizon Call the Mountain, but it's not really like a heavy focused PlayStation event.
394
You know, our big thing is Jim Ryan showing a logo for PS5.
395
And now we can just simply say that's not going to happen for PlayStation 6.
396
But there's like a lot of unknowns for how they may
397
or may not reveal PlayStation 6 because we still don't know if it will launch on time late 2027.
398
With that in mind though, what we can say is they will not be at this event, and that is a huge change for the company.
399
Moving on to some heaping fresh copium for the disc controversy, where PlayStation is hearing the outcry loud and clear from not just fans,
400
but also developers as well.
401
So this story comes from Kenzo Saruhashi, the CEO of Nipponichi Software.
402
They're known for the Deskaia franchise.
403
They spoke with Kotaku at PAX West, and they were asked about Sony's decision to end disc production
404
and how that might impact their business since they do release a lot of physical games
405
and those bigger box limited edition versions as well.
406
And so Kenzo said they initially had the same information as the public
407
and that code in a box format is one possibility to navigate it, but perhaps not the only one.
408
They said, and I quote, in our discussions with Sony so far, I think that they're hearing a lot of the feedback from customers.
409
And so while that may be one destination that we arrive at, it's possible that the discussion may change in the future.
410
So we'll have to see what happens, what comes of it, end quote.
411
Now, obviously they're talking about only customer feedback, but I think the context is there of, oh, they're talking with Sony.
412
They're probably voicing their own concerns.
413
They too are blindsided by the announcement.
414
And that's part of what I kept saying is that not a lot of people knew about this, and there are some businesses where this is a problem for them.
415
I mean, Nipponichi, they very much do release niche games and experiences.
416
Like, they heavily focus on a higher average selling price for their games at launch, and that hinges on those bigger box collector editions.
417
They skew a lot more physically.
418
And their fans are very much in the know of key cards, for example, which they experimented with didn't pan out all that well for them.
419
So they get it, and they know this is a concern for them
420
because their sales directly influence the budgets and salaries that are used to make the video games.
421
You know, it's more so, I guess, a different dynamic for them.
422
It's a major problem for the boutique publishers like a LRG or IM8Bit, obviously, but this is, I think,
423
one of many examples of the developers themselves are also not too happy about this
424
and it's just uh maybe somewhat encouraging as i said fresh copium hot off the press
425
that implies maybe playstation is hearing more
426
and more about this in a meaningful way from not just the fans
427
but also their development partners now as i often say we don't cover the jailbreak and modding scene too often,
428
unless there's bigger breakthroughs going on in the scene.
429
Well, this past week, there was a pretty big breakthrough, which is a new jailbreak that is up to firmware 13 .60, which for those keeping score,
430
two weeks ago, we just got firmware 14 .0, which means that a lot of PlayStation 5 consoles can be jailbroken.
431
If you just, by some choice, happen to not turn on your PS5 for more than two weeks, and you're still on 13 .6,
432
you are eligible for a jailbreak.
433
This did not require having your console sit in a box for years like it took early on with the console.
434
So the new relapse jailbreak works up to, well, from 7 .0 up to 13 .6.
435
Like I said, it was by Nathan Fargo and Sonic ISO.
436
So for this exploit, you just have to adjust primary DNS settings
437
and the advanced internet setup settings
438
and then you go to the user guide settings to open the ps5's web browser
439
which you then load the jailbreak page automatically and you just, you get it going from there, and then you can install all sorts of custom packages and homebrew.
440
I mean, that's where the PS5 is jailbroken up to a very recent firmware.
441
In fact, that firmware is so new that consoles sold right now at retail are not shipping with 14 .0.
442
Like, that's not a fast enough turnaround time.
443
I don't know what they ship with, but it's definitely 13 .6 or lower, so that's, that's huge.
444
Obviously, the thing with jailbreaks is that you can't go online there's a hard cutoff with the PlayStation software.
445
So when they force firmwares, that means you have to go online.
446
So you have, you would have had to have kept the console offline
447
and you can never go online with it ever again, because it will prompt the firmware, of course.
448
So that is the one caveat, but otherwise, yeah, it's a pretty big jailbreak that is now available to a lot of users than what was available previously.
449
moving on to some third -party news where I did not think we'd have another story about Fizzant
450
but here we are this time it's all about the game's budget
451
because that was the chatter last week from Jason Schreier this idea
452
that it sounds like Kojima asked a lot for PlayStation to pay for the game PlayStation then said no
453
and it sounds like Xbox is maybe paying a lot less than that initial number.
454
So we had that play out.
455
Then that evolved into a new report from Christopher Dring on the game business
456
that mentioned the budget was anywhere from $300 to $600 million.
457
That was the chatter at TGS, and $400 million is seemingly the one heard the most, though Chris said he's not sure that Xbox paid that or is going to.
458
Rather, the game's not out yet, obviously.
459
Then over on Reset Era, Jason commented on this saying he's hesitant to get into exact numbers without seeing documentation or having multiple first -hand sources,
460
but there are numbers for what PlayStation signed, what it was getting to, the number during negotiations, the number with A -list actors attached to it,
461
a number Xbox agreed to, and a number it might really cost when it comes out.
462
All said, someone at Xbox with first -hand knowledge of the deal says they signed Fizzant for significantly less than $400 million.
463
And since then, Christopher Dring and Jez Corden from Windows Central, they both followed up saying the same thing, that Xbox is paying less than that.
464
So now we have, I guess, a better idea of like, yeah, that's how this all went down, right?
465
Of them wanting a lot of money, PlayStation was unwilling because there was just no compromise on either budget,
466
exclusivity, obviously IP, but I think that was never really up for conversation at this point in Kojima's career.
467
Maybe PlayStation was asking to own the I'm not entirely sure, but it's the same thing we've been saying.
468
Like just nobody kind of came to terms with a deal that made everybody happy, but that then led to a surprise cancellation, at least from Kojima's point of view,
469
even though negotiations were going on for about a few months at minimum.
470
And then him having this epiphany of, oh no, what do I do?
471
I'm going to have to go to somebody else.
472
And he agreed to a smaller number.
473
And that I think is the more pertinent item to discuss here.
474
Not so much that PlayStation walked away from a Kojima game.
475
Sure, that's still surprising and we can argue that they should have signed the deal and still paid for it.
476
But I mean, really, I'm kind of annoyed because
477
that means like the game's not what Kojima originally wanted it to be, right?
478
Like it seems like there's very few people zeroing in on that.
479
If we're talking about a game that allegedly had a $400 million budget and was exceeding that, now one, that's kind of insane, obviously.
480
There's no getting around that.
481
That's an absurd number to pay for a AAA video game.
482
But if you're a Kojima fan, if you love the experiences he puts out and the talent he wants to associate on these games,
483
I mean, look, I'd love to see what
484
that $500 plus million game would have looked like by the time it came out.
485
I don't care who pays for it, right?
486
I'm just the guy on the ground floor who wants to play and experience compelling, groundbreaking video games.
487
So I think it kind of sucks that this game potentially had a budget that was cut in half.
488
I don't know how you're making the same game on that budget.
489
Otherwise, he would have stayed at PlayStation.
490
So again, like, it'll be fascinating to see what this game turns into by the time it comes out.
491
But I feel like it's a very safe assumption to say
492
that because PlayStation walked away
493
and Kojima was not willing to waver on certain things like exclusivity that we're now getting a lesser experience because of it.
494
Next up we have some massive Grand Theft Auto 6 details
495
because GTA 6 was the cover game for the new Game Informer issue, so we learned a lot about the scope in scale of GTA 6.
496
And these are the little things that, well, maybe not little, but the stuff that you don't really get to see in that initial Netflix gameplay debut.
497
So we got new screenshots and all these details about the world of Leonida, which we found out the world map is twice the size of GTA 5 that's locked in.
498
It's much more dense, and it has six distinct regions, which is Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grass Rivers, Port Gelhorn, Ambrosia,
499
and Mount Calaga National Park.
500
And yes, this stuff certainly was part of the various leaks that we saw, but it's always good to have proper confirmation that these are in the final game.
501
Now, there is also a load of side activities as well, like as we saw airboats, but base jumping, billiards, fishing,
502
gyms, jet skiing, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off -road racing, and zoo visits, which is fascinating.
503
Which, speaking of, there's 170 different types of wildlife in the game with various levels of rarity as well.
504
And the game has a greatly improved dynamic weather system with wind affecting hair and trash,
505
water surfaces, vegetation in the swamps, things like that tropical storms and hurricanes will be present in the game.
506
And then NPCs have a greater range of diversity from heights to body shapes, muscle mass, and more.
507
Franchise stables like getting busted by the police will still play out the way you expect with the text on the screen.
508
And you can use a rideshare app in the game to travel around, and you can chat with passengers, listen to music, or browse social media.
509
It's just, it's really neat stuff.
510
And I'm sure this is still not even scratching the surface on the level of detail
511
and things that you can
512
and cannot do i mean we saw a lot of this
513
stuff in the trailers just sort of i guess at a cursory glance right like
514
that very first trailer showed the the sort of wide range of body shapes
515
and sizes you know like a lot of games it's it's very mpc driven of it's one sort of character
516
and it's redressed 50 something times really a dozen times nowadays for modern video games
517
but i digress it's just uh man i'm I'm really looking forward to this game.
518
I think there's actually very few games that have gotten me to this level of excitement in recent memory because, you know, for as much as I love like Saras,
519
for example, or the next major Naughty Dog game
520
or how I get giddy with excitement at a new Luminous or Katamari game.
521
This very much is the outlier sort of pinnacle of like what 10 years and a billion dollars, more than a billion dollars can make, right?
522
The kind of resources and energy that the human spirit can put together.
523
I think that's what this game really heavily embodies, and I love that they're full sending it for the full Florida experience, which your boy recently did as well.
524
Moving on to some PlayStation Productions news for The Last of Us HBO Season 3, we have more casting announcements.
525
This was part of the news out of The Last of Us Day, but we know that John Goodman, Ian Alexander, and Laura Bailey have joined Season 3,
526
which Laura Bailey had that small cameo appearance in season one, and she plays Abby in the part two game, but she is going to play one of the leaders of the Seraphites in season three.
527
Ian Alexander was Lev, but that part is already getting played by Kiriana Cratter.
528
So Ian and John Goodman, they're playing a friendly duo named Joey and Paco, known as the Heroes of the Highway.
529
That's part of the report from Deadline where this news came out of.
530
So I'm not sure if
531
that means they're like kind of new offshoot characters not part of part two originally
532
because you know john goodman i just immediately thought of the rattlers
533
and uh santa barbara so i don't know
534
if that's like really what's going to play out
535
or what have you
536
but um i'm still excited for season three i you know as much as season two had its problems
537
and in some cases like really dropped the ball i still
538
want to see how they play out season three now knowing
539
that it is going to be the full thing and they're going to close it out with the Santa Barbara portion.
540
Now with all that said, it is time for Let's Talk Plus, the weekly Let's Talk PlayStation giveaway,
541
where four of you could win a code for Toem and Toem 2, which came out very recently on PlayStation 5.
542
So I would like to congratulate these viewers right here.
543
I'll be contacting you very soon via email or Twitter.
544
Thanks again to Pop Agenda for the giveaway, and we will be going back to a $10 PSN code.
545
So if you would like to win, then follow the link down below or scan the QR code, enter the Gleam giveaway, and supporting this channel a number of ways can gain you an entry,
546
and I'll announce the winner next week because I'm trying to help pay for your games.
547
Those are some of the stories from this past week that I wanted to talk about with you all, and our Tuesday video was finally a game collection update.
548
It's been over a year, but here's my new pickups, which like I said, I'm not buying games nearly as much as I used to,
549
but I am more motivated right now to buy PS5 physicals.
550
So there you go.
551
There's a new collection update.
552
Also, Click R3 was last night.
553
So that's live on the Spawncast Network channel and also Spotify, LTPS, also still on Spotify.
554
You can go listen to the show, subscribe there, or watch the show.
555
It's the full 4K60 video.
556
And I have an announcement.
557
So after 14 -something years on YouTube with an all -encompassing channel of PlayStation, that's news, opinion pieces, documentaries,
558
tutorials, tips and tricks, and trophy videos.
559
Now felt like finally the time to splinter off one of those, give it a separate home, so I have a new channel, at Mystic Trophies on YouTube.
560
This will be the new home of trophy hunting videos.
561
And to kick it off, very soon I will upload to get the channel going, a full marathon of 30 Platinum's 1 through 4,
562
since everyone always tells me they love re -watching those videos.
563
So there's your new set it and forget it video coming out soon.
564
Part one through four, it's like four and a half hours long or something like that.
565
But that will be the new home of trophy playthroughs, which I have to say it's very much a side thing.
566
So it's going to be very inconsistent, but I've got a few cadence of videos planned for it.
567
But that's where you're going to see all the new platinum runs.
568
Saros will be on there as well.
569
I filmed my full Saros run and I'll try and upload on that channel as often as I reasonably can.
570
But I don't know, it felt like maybe it was time to finally just do
571
something a little bit separate from the main channel since YouTube's always weird with that stuff nowadays.
572
I feel like most people have 30 different channels by now, so it took me a little bit longer.
573
But either way, you can go subscribe and we'll have uploads going on that channel relatively soon.
574
And that is pretty much it.
575
So that concludes this week's episode of Let's Talk PlayStation.
576
Asian.
577
I'm Ryan Benecki.
578
Thank you all so much for talking with me, and I will see you all next Friday.
