1
And here's the problem.
2
We live in a world where it's fast paced.
3
Like scroll, scroll, scroll, shorts, TikTok, and all the rest.
4
And everyone wants to be first.
5
But you know what?
6
Wisdom is not necessarily trying to be first.
7
Wisdom is trying to be right.
8
Many of you guys know that sadly,
9
Steve Lawson was disqualified from pastoral and Christian ministry due to issues of infidelity and unfaithfulness to his wife.
10
And so we're not going to go into all those details now.
11
But this is something that is rather recent in our history.
12
And after Steve Lawson essentially was caught, he came out with a letter of repentance and pleading for forgiveness,
13
confession of sin, and he essentially disappeared from the public view.
14
However, last week, Protestia said, Steve Lawson has returned and will be speaking at a Christian conference.
15
And there's a picture of the conference webpage, Meet the Speakers, Lawson's picture is there.
16
So Protestia posts this.
17
This went wild.
18
Many people were talking about this.
19
And then Protestia had to come out with Steve Lawson not speaking at upcoming preaching conference,
20
exclusive regarding Steve Lawson we can confirm that the conference organizers advertised Lawson's participation without his knowledge or consent.
21
They invited him to be a speaker, but before hearing that he intended to decline, there was an internal misunderstanding that he would agree.
22
As soon as he found out about it, he informed them of his declining the offer and they promptly removed him from the lineup.
23
All right, so here's what happened.
24
Protestia posts this, that he's speaking at a conference, everybody just started sharing this and vilifying Lawson,
25
just dragging him, just dragging him.
26
And what actually was true was that Lawson had not agreed to be in the conference,
27
but the people who were organizing the conference had put him up assuming he would come, but he wasn't coming.
28
Protestia shared this.
29
And apparently Protestia, when they shared it, had not actually contacted the conference itself to ask the question,
30
the simple question, is it true that Steve Lawson is speaking at your conference and he has confirmed?
31
It's as simple as that.
32
Simple phone call, simple email before it's shared.
33
Is this true that he's going to be there because it's a big deal.
34
Look, okay.
35
Steve Lawson is disqualified for ministry.
36
Then you see him pop up in a conference website.
37
Okay.
38
That's crazy.
39
But shouldn't we do the checks and balances first to make sure that we have integrity, journalistic integrity, which would just be basic Christian integrity,
40
that what I'm about to share with everybody is actually the truth.
41
It was unfortunate because man, were people, did you see some of the stuff no i was on my sabbatical
42
and i did not see any of it dragging him i
43
mean you just said the reform world we love to eat our own for sure oh yeah um
44
and every you know there's every category of christianity does but man the reformed world loves to eat our own
45
and um and you just saw in all the reform pages
46
and everything else just dragging lawson i mean he just got vilified for at least 24 hours i think
47
and even men that we love and respect like Justin Peters.
48
Like, you know, he saw what Protestia did.
49
He immediately posted on it.
50
He had things to say.
51
Since then, after Justin Peters learned that it was an error, Justin Peters scrubbed his page of that.
52
And then he gave an explanation on his X account as to why he posted what he did.
53
And he said here, I've taken down my post about Steve Lawson speaking at the Contending for the Faith Conference.
54
Protestia's reporting of Steve being listed as a speaker being the result of an internal misunderstanding
55
that led him to assume he would agree is still puzzling to me.
56
So then Justin, who we love, we love Justin, deep love, low respect for him.
57
Then he goes on to explain, you know, the understandable, like he saw the post.
58
The assumption is, is that this is actually true.
59
It's actually happening.
60
It seemed real.
61
But then Justin goes on to apologize later for, you know, sharing something that wasn't true.
62
But see, here's the problem.
63
So many people did.
64
So many people just shared something that wasn't in fact true.
65
And Lawson got dragged for something that he didn't even do.
66
And here's the problem.
67
We live in a world where it's fast paced, like scroll, scroll, scroll, shorts, TikTok, and all the rest.
68
And everyone wants to be first.
69
But you know what?
70
Wisdom is not necessarily trying to be first.
71
Wisdom is trying to be right.
72
Wisdom is trying to be righteous and godly, not first.
73
And everyone today wants to just be first.
74
Oh, look, I saw it.
75
Share it.
76
Before you've done your checks and balances.
77
You hear a story about pastors or somebody else and you just go, oh my goodness, share.
78
right?
79
I mean, we've been, we've been on the butt end of that many, many times where somebody will make a claim,
80
they'll say something, they'll do a message on it or a program on it, or they'll write an article about it and they'll share it and we'll see it and we'll go, where in the world?
81
This guy, this is false.
82
This is complete fiction.
83
I've even had people write things about me and I've contacted them.
84
What you're saying is not true.
85
It's provably not true.
86
I can share the witnesses to you.
87
This is, this never happened.
88
You are lying about us.
89
You're lying about our ministry.
90
You're lying about me.
91
And they didn't care.
92
They just shared it anyway, because it just shares too dang good.
93
And, um, and those, that's, that's the really just over the top example of how people will do this in this day and age, but everyone just wants to be first rather than being wise.
94
There's a reason why tabloids and TMZ and stuff like
95
that have existed all these years and done well
96
because sinful hearts just really want to just participate in
97
that kind of garbage and right sadly it's a problem within the church
98
and social media has made that so accessible
99
and um it's just gross it is and it's gross
100
and jesus said on the last day people are going to
101
be held to account for every idle word every idle word and that i think counts
102
especially of course to social media and the things
103
that you type with your little fingers
104
and then i type with my little fingers big fingers in my case big fingers in your case for sure
105
there was there's a pastor
106
that i know jerry doris i just shared what he said
107
about this i saw what he said was good i just shared what jerry said about this
108
and i'm gonna i'm gonna share it with you right now
109
because i thought this was perfect jerry did a fine job with this He said this, Here's how you publicly repent for piling on Steve Lawson.
110
I deleted my post about Steve Lawson.
111
I failed to believe the best of him, 1 Corinthians 13, 7, and spread information I had not verified, Proverbs 18, 13.
112
That's a book of wisdom, by the way.
113
I sinned against him and against God by hearing only one side, Proverbs 18, 17, and being too quick to speak, James 1, 19.
114
Because my sin was public, my confession must also be public.
115
Proverbs 28, 13.
116
Please forgive me.
117
Luke 17, 3 through 4.
118
He said, feel free to copy and paste.
119
Good on you, Jerry.
120
Look what Steve Lawson did.
121
It's heartbreaking, discouraging, painful, without question.
122
But the man put out public confession of sin and his repentance.
123
He says he's trying to get his life back together right now and trying to restore his marriage with his wife.
124
Okay.
125
What if your sin and sanctification was public?
126
How would you feel?
127
Would you want people to be merciful to you and gracious to you?
128
You were trying to trust in God, that God who actually forgives me for my heinous sins in life.
129
Wouldn't you want people to say, we're going to believe best about you, that God is doing something in you?
130
I mean, we're all wretches.
131
Not one of us is beyond face plants and sinning and falling short.
132
Okay, so what he did is a blight upon the Christian church.
133
Amen.
134
Agreed.
135
Completely.
136
But he wasn't stubborn about it and obstinate.
137
He was saying, you're right.
138
I'm sinful.
139
God, forgive me.
140
Please pray for me.
141
Please pray for me that God restores all this that I destroyed.
142
Please pray.
143
Okay.
144
Praise the Lord.
145
Thank you, God for your mercy.
146
Thank you, God.
147
We all need that mercy.
148
But most of our sins are not, and sanctification is not public like his.
149
Okay.
150
So we can't feel the weight of that, many of us.
151
And then just to get dragged, dragged by people who never even picked up the phone or sent an email to the conference to say,
152
is that true?
153
Is he really speaking at your conference?
154
because I would respect the person who published something that said, no, I talked to the conference.
155
I've got the record.
156
I talked to them.
157
They confirmed he's coming.
158
That's not your fault.
159
You shared something with confirmation.
160
You didn't just listen to one side.
161
You checked it out.
162
You did all your checks and balances.
163
The scripture calls you to do.
164
Okay, fine.
165
You shared it.
166
Maybe it was turned out to be error later, but you did your homework and you did what you're supposed to do.
167
You were wise.
168
In this case, you didn't do it.
169
People didn't do it.
170
That's the difference between real journalism and TMZ.
171
Yes.
172
Just do what wisdom calls you to do.
173
If you're going to share a story about somebody that's going to have them slandered and vilified, you have to make sure that you've checked the witnesses and the evidence.
174
Nobody would want this done to themselves, and that's the point.
175
What is Jesus' standard?
176
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
177
Would you want or would I want somebody sharing a story about us publicly
178
and he gets legs on it without checking with us first
179
or checking to see if it was actually true to begin with?
180
it sucks.
181
It does.
182
We've been in ministry for a long time, long time, many years of ministry.
183
And I can't tell you at this point how many articles
184
and videos and things have been shared about us and yours truly that we look at and go complete fiction, false.
185
God help them.
186
God help them.
187
It hurts.
188
It hurts really bad.
189
And nobody would want that done to themselves.
190
And so we shouldn't do it to Steve Lawson or anybody else.
191
There's a book in the Bible that tells you exactly how to manage these things.
192
And we'd be all better off by following it.
193
And so my prayer is for Steve Lawson, restoration, redemption of this whole situation for his family.
194
I know it hurts.
195
I know painful, but God saves sinners, not the righteous.
196
And some of our greatest heroes in scripture had catastrophic collapses of their lives and God restored and redeemed them.
197
And that's what I want for him.
198
Jerry said it right.
199
Thank you for that, Jerry.
200
If you see this man, that was excellent.
201

209
You wear it for about 14 hours.
