8
Okay, so today we're going to talk about learning.
9
In my opinion, this is a really important topic because we should always try to learn new things in life.
10
So first, why don't we talk about learning in school?
11
The first place that you might think of when you think of learning is school.
12
In the US, people usually start their first year of school when they're between four and six years old.
13
From that point on, they have many classes and study many subjects until they finish high school.
14
And then, of course, they can go to college if they want.
15
So, in total, this is a lot of learning.
16
But do students really learn a lot during their education?
17
I think it depends.
18
Sometimes you learn a lot in your class and sometimes you don't learn much at all.
19
I'm sure a lot of you have had this experience before.
20
You take a class in high school and you're supposed to learn that subject,
21
but you don't remember much from that class when it's over.
22
This could be because the teacher wasn't that good,
23
or maybe you weren't that interested in the class.
24
This happened to me a lot.
25
When I wasn't that interested in the subject,
26
I just memorized the necessary information to pass the tests.
27
Afterwards, I forgot all that information.
28
However, when I had classes that I was interested in,
29
I actually learned a lot.
30
For example, in seventh grade,
31
I had an English class that I loved.
32
It was strange because most of my other classmates hated this class.
33
The teacher focused a lot on grammar and we studied the structure of the English language in detail.
34
I guess I'm not like most people because this actually fascinated me.
35
I still remember a lot of the information that I learned in that class,
36
even though it was 16 years ago.
37
I think this shows that our brain can learn a lot if it's engaged,
38
but it won't learn if it's not engaged.
39
So how about learning in your job?
40
Some people don't want to continue learning after they graduate from school.
41
They might think that once they get a job, they're done learning.
42
But we don't only learn in school,
43
we have to learn throughout our career.
44
This is important because if we don't continue learning,
45
we can't stay up to date.
46
This means that our knowledge and experience can't help us with current issues in our work.
47
That's why we should always be looking to increase our knowledge even if it's not required.
48
So how can we continue learning if we're not in school?
49
Well, one way is to take courses to learn skills and get certifications.
50
This can definitely help you in your career.
51
But to be honest, you can learn without taking courses.
52
You can use free resources like YouTube to learn all kinds of things.
53
It's really simple, you just need to dedicate some time and attention to this.
54
So what are some things that could be useful to learn?
55
Of course, you can learn languages,
56
you can take courses to improve your soft skills like communication and leadership,
57
or maybe you can read about some new trends in your field of work.
58
You can choose to learn anything really.
59
You can learn things that aren't even related to your career if they're interesting for you.
60
In the end, the important thing is to always be open to learning new things.
61
Okay, that's all for today.
62
Remember to download the Listening Time podcast and become a member at patreon.com slash listening time to receive my listening practice seminars,

语法和表达方式的语境分析

在这个视频中,有几个关键的表达结构是值得注意的:

  • 在学校学习的过程 - 视频提到“people usually start their first year of school...”,这对于描述一般的学习过程非常有效。
  • 学习的兴趣 - 例如,“when I wasn’t that interested in the subject...”,说明了学生对学习内容的兴趣对学习效果的重要影响。
  • 持续学习的必要性 - “we have to learn throughout our career”强调了终身学习的重要性,这是提升职业技能的关键。
