Hey everybody, welcome to this B1 English Listening Practice video.

You can use this video to train your listening and comprehension as I speak.
0:04.82 0:09.32 (4.5s)
3
So today I'm going to talk about the beach.
0:09.58 0:12.10 (2.5s)
4
This is a subject that most people like, because most people like the beach.
0:12.06 0:15.90 (3.8s)
5
But I would say that I'm actually in that small minority of people that don't really love the beach.
0:15.82 0:20.72 (4.9s)
6
I'd say that I sometimes like going to the beach, but honestly I prefer other types of terrain.
0:20.24 0:26.04 (5.8s)
7
But I'll get back to that later.
0:25.94 0:27.68 (1.7s)
8
Let's talk about all the cool beach activities that you can do.
0:28.20 0:30.98 (2.8s)
9
First of all, there are a ton of cool sports that can be played in the sand, like volleyball, soccer, football, etc.
0:31.28 0:38.28 (7.0s)
10
I've gotta say that even though I'm not all that crazy about the beach, beach volleyball is one of the sports that I love the most.
0:38.38 0:45.04 (6.7s)
11
There's just something about moving and diving around in the sand that I really like.
0:45.40 0:49.66 (4.3s)
12
And I'm fairly tall, so I have the advantage of being able to spike the ball over the net, which is pretty fun.
0:49.84 0:56.22 (6.4s)
13
Summer and football can also be fun to play on the beach, but for me, I think I'd prefer to play those sports on normal grass.
0:56.96 1:02.96 (6.0s)
14
It's just easier to move around, it's flat, and you can play on a bigger field.
1:02.92 1:07.70 (4.8s)
15
So besides sports, of course one of the other things that people do on the sand is sunbathe.
1:07.98 1:12.76 (4.8s)
16
Now this is something that I could never do in a million years because I'd burn super easily.
1:13.04 1:17.78 (4.7s)
17
If you put me out in the sun for a few hours, I'd come back looking like a ripe tomato.
1:18.08 1:22.22 (4.1s)
18
No joke.
1:21.98 1:23.06 (1.1s)
19
I'm sure some of you might say something similar.
1:22.98 1:25.46 (2.5s)
20
Some of us get a nice tan when we're out in the sun, and some of us burn badly.
1:26.04 1:29.92 (3.9s)
21
I remember one of my all-time worst sunburns was when I went on a pretty long bike ride wearing a sleeveless shirt.
1:30.24 1:36.72 (6.5s)
22
It was kind of cloudy outside, so I didn't think I needed sunscreen, and boy was I wrong.
1:36.66 1:42.18 (5.5s)
23
My arms were peeling for a long time after that day.
1:42.46 1:45.52 (3.1s)
24
Okay, so back to the beach.
1:45.90 1:47.28 (1.4s)
25
Let's talk about some of the different water activities now.
1:47.28 1:50.58 (3.3s)
26
Growing up, I did some boogie boarding, which I actually find pretty fun.
1:50.84 1:54.52 (3.7s)
27
It just doesn't look as cool as surfing.
1:54.52 1:56.72 (2.2s)
28
If you've never been boogie boarding before, it's when you have a rectangular board and you lie down on it, and when a big wave comes, it pushes you into the shore.
1:56.72 2:05.60 (8.9s)
29
It's pretty fun.
2:05.60 2:06.72 (1.1s)
30
I've actually been thinking about learning to surf recently because I've had a few different students who were surfers and they talked to me about it and made it sound pretty cool.
2:06.72 2:15.04 (8.3s)
31
So maybe I might try it, but I don't think I'd be that good at it.
2:15.44 2:18.78 (3.3s)
32
Besides surfing and boogie boarding, there are also some other more exotic-looking activities, like kite surfing and windsurfing, and some boat activities, like jet skiing or sailing.
2:19.22 2:30.16 (10.9s)
33
I have been sailing before, but on the bay, not in the ocean.
2:29.84 2:34.18 (4.3s)
34
Sailing is something that would be cool to get into, but it takes a lot of practice, training, and dedication, and so I don't think I'll ever go that route.
2:34.80 2:42.24 (7.4s)
35
Alright, so I mentioned earlier that I'm not a big beach guy, and that's mainly for two reasons.
2:42.62 2:47.28 (4.7s)
36
The first is the sun.
2:47.28 2:48.90 (1.6s)
37
I burn easily.
2:48.90 2:50.02 (1.1s)
38
And the second is that if I have free time, I prefer to go to other places, like the mountain, the forest, the countryside, even the desert.
2:50.02 2:58.24 (8.2s)
39
So it's not that I don't like the beach, I just like other nature places better.
2:57.70 3:02.78 (5.1s)
40
But, despite that fact, I've lived close to the beach for most of my life and I know I'm lucky for that.
3:03.20 3:08.60 (5.4s)
41
Alright, so that's all for today.
3:09.04 3:10.36 (1.3s)
42
Leave a comment and tell me some of the things that you like doing at the beach.
3:10.88 3:14.30 (3.4s)
43
I'll see you next video.
3:14.78 3:15.68 (0.9s)

  • 第一人称叙述:讲者常使用“I”来分享个人的观点和经历,例如:“I prefer other types of terrain.”
  • 进行时态:在讨论某些活动时,讲者使用了现在进行时,例如:“I’ve been thinking about learning to surf.”
  • 比较级:讲者提到:“I’d prefer to play those sports on normal grass.”
