1
Hi, welcome to my latest video and thanks for watching.
2
In this next session of videos I'm going to concentrate further on the basic tools
3
that you need as an engineer and give you the words
4
that you need associated with these tools or that you use with these tools.
5
But first let me thank everybody who has subscribed to the channel.
6
I hope you're enjoying it.
7
Don't forget you can leave some feedback if you'd like
8
and let me know how I can make the videos better for your learning.
9
In the future I'm planning to do more interactivity with the videos that I make.
10
I've just got to learn about the software
11
but in the meantime enjoy this next session of videos and I hope you keep watching.
12
Thanks for watching up to now.
13
Bye.
14
Files.
15
We use files to smooth rough edges.
16
To smooth means to make something flat or even.
17
Rough is a surface that is not flat or not even.
18
We can say to file something.
19
I am filing something.
20
I have filed.
21
Hacksaw A hacksaw is a fine-toothed saw,
22
principally made for cutting metal.
23
Fine-toothed saw is a saw with many small teeth.
24
Principally means the main or most important.
25
A hacksaw's main use is for cutting metal.
26
And here we can use the word hacksaw as a verb. To hacksaw something.
27
I'm hacksawing a piece of metal off.
28
And I hacksawed something yesterday.
29
Taps.
30
A tap is used to cut a female thread.
31
an internal thread of a nut.
32
A thread is the high line that goes around the inside of a nut
33
and a nut is a piece of metal
34
that has a hole through it so
35
that it can be screwed onto a bolt or a screw
36
and we use the verb to tap for this to tap a thread.
37
I tapped a thread.
38
Dies A die is used to cut the male or the external thread of a bolt.
39
The thread here is the high line
40
that goes around the outside of a bolt or a screw
41
and a bolt is a piece of metal that has an external thread so that it can be screwed onto a nut.
42
Here we normally use the verb cut and we talk about to cut a thread or cutting a thread.
43
Reamers.
44
We use reamers to enlarge holes or for removing burrs.
45
enlarge means to make something larger or bigger we use the verb to ream
46
when we use a reamer we might say something like this
47
hole needs reaming out burr is a rough area on a piece of metal
48
that is left after the metal is cut or drilled
49
and to take the burr away we use the verb to deburr so we might say this hole needs deburring
50
and then you can use a reamer
51
So I hope you enjoyed that video.
52
Now comes a little quiz so you can test your knowledge.
53
The answers come at the end of the quiz.
54
So as you answer them, write down your answer, or if you need to speak English,
55
remember you can record your answers on your smartphone or on your computer enjoy the quiz
56
Thank you.
57
Thank you.
本片段的口语学习目标
通过学习工程工具相关表达,提升描述工具功能与使用场景的流利度,同时掌握实用动词短语的运用。适合想要在专业场景或日常对话中更准确表达的学习者,尤其能帮助锻炼“影子跟读”(shadow speak)时的语句节奏把控能力。
实用短语库
- smooth rough edges(打磨粗糙边缘)
- cut a thread(切削螺纹)
- enlarge holes(扩大孔洞)
- remove burrs(去除毛边)
- file something(锉削某物)
- hacksaw a piece of metal(用钢锯切割金属)
