and today I want to give you some example part three answers teachers, for the speaking test of course.

And these are about a topic

that a lot of students find difficult to talk about and often shows up on the exam.

So the general topic is globalization.

Now I don't think you talk about this a lot in your first language, I don't.

So you're not used to talking about this in any language, let alone English.

So So it's really important that you practice talking about stuff like this, but you need to prepare yourself by reading newspapers,

reading magazines, so you get ideas, so you have enough knowledge in your head to answer anything

that the examiner asks you because you don't know what to expect.

Could be anything, wide variety of topics on the IELTS speaking exam.

So globalization, this idea of a global village,

the cultures are becoming intertwined today because of social media, because of the ease of travel, technology of course.

So this idea could come up in a variety of topics in speaking part three and writing task two.

If you are asked to talk about culture,

travel, business, commerce, lots of ways that globalization can come into the picture on the speaking exam and again the writing exam.

So let me give you a couple example answers.

First of all what I want you to notice is the structure.

So in your speaking part three answers, you should organize your answer by first opinion, directly give your opinion right away,

so let's get into the examples

if the examiner says how has globalization influenced your hometown or city I would say well So honestly,

in my opinion, I don't think globalization has influenced my hometown.

I'm from a small town in Nevada.

So instead of talking about that, I'm gonna talk about where I live now in Portland.

And honestly, I can tell you for sure that globalization has changed Portland dramatically in the last decade.

For example, if you walk within a three block radius of where I live in my neighborhood,

you can find a Lebanese restaurant and market.

You can find a Mexican taco truck.

You can find Indian food, Vietnamese food.

In fact, there's a Filipino restaurant even right across the street now that just opened.

There's a Vietnamese church down the street.

There's a Russian church the other way.

So I think because of globalization, people can travel more easily and they feel more confident moving to new countries now

because they're not unfamiliar because of the media.

So globalization has definitely impacted my city positively.

Alright, so you should listen to that answer, watch that answer a couple times and please notice how I follow the structure,

opinion and then lots of very specific details and examples.

You have to do that in part three and it's fine if they're from your own life,

alright, as long as they are specific and then again very short conclusion sentence, alright.

Let me give you one more example.

So the examiner might say, what are the disadvantages of globalization?

And then I would answer, well, to be honest, I think the biggest disadvantage is, well, it's obvious.

A lot of people talk about this these days,

that they're afraid of local people losing their traditions and cultures because of the influx.

That's a good vocabulary word.

Because of the influx of other cultures and the greater influence that especially North American culture has on the world these days.

So young people, for example, are not into their traditional music or dancing or customs.

No. Instead, they're listening to hip hop.

They're watching American Idol.

they're taking in culture that basically is not theirs.

And I think this could be harmful to their own culture over time.

So in my opinion, although there are a great many advantages to globalization, this would be the biggest disadvantage.
