Creating lesson...
1
you Hi,
2
I'm Jessica Beck from the online IELTS course three keys IELTS
3
and today I want to give you some example part three answers teachers, for the speaking test of course.
4
And these are about a topic
5
that a lot of students find difficult to talk about and often shows up on the exam.
6
So the general topic is globalization.
7
Now I don't think you talk about this a lot in your first language, I don't.
8
So you're not used to talking about this in any language, let alone English.
9
So So it's really important that you practice talking about stuff like this, but you need to prepare yourself by reading newspapers,
10
reading magazines, so you get ideas, so you have enough knowledge in your head to answer anything
11
that the examiner asks you because you don't know what to expect.
12
Could be anything, wide variety of topics on the IELTS speaking exam.
13
So globalization, this idea of a global village,
14
the cultures are becoming intertwined today because of social media, because of the ease of travel, technology of course.
15
So this idea could come up in a variety of topics in speaking part three and writing task two.
16
If you are asked to talk about culture,
17
travel, business, commerce, lots of ways that globalization can come into the picture on the speaking exam and again the writing exam.
18
So let me give you a couple example answers.
19
First of all what I want you to notice is the structure.
20
Now in our IELTS course, Three Keys IELTS, we teach you very simple,
21
direct strategies and structures to follow on test day to get you the highest score.
22
Very clear, very simple, guaranteed to get you the highest score.
23
So in your speaking part three answers, you should organize your answer by first opinion, directly give your opinion right away,
24
opinion reasons and examples
25
and then a very short conclusion all right not too long
26
not too short again in our course we tell you all about the timing
27
and how to tackle that on the exam
28
so let's get into the examples
29
if the examiner says how has globalization influenced your hometown or city I would say well So honestly,
30
in my opinion, I don't think globalization has influenced my hometown.
31
I'm from a small town in Nevada.
32
So instead of talking about that, I'm gonna talk about where I live now in Portland.
33
And honestly, I can tell you for sure that globalization has changed Portland dramatically in the last decade.
34
For example, if you walk within a three block radius of where I live in my neighborhood,
35
you can find a Lebanese restaurant and market.
36
You can find a Mexican taco truck.
37
You can find Indian food, Vietnamese food.
38
In fact, there's a Filipino restaurant even right across the street now that just opened.
39
There's a Vietnamese church down the street.
40
There's a Russian church the other way.
41
So I think because of globalization, people can travel more easily and they feel more confident moving to new countries now
42
because they're not unfamiliar because of the media.
43
So globalization has definitely impacted my city positively.
44
Alright, so you should listen to that answer, watch that answer a couple times and please notice how I follow the structure,
45
opinion and then lots of very specific details and examples.
46
You have to do that in part three and it's fine if they're from your own life,
47
alright, as long as they are specific and then again very short conclusion sentence, alright.
48
Let me give you one more example.
49
So the examiner might say, what are the disadvantages of globalization?
50
And then I would answer, well, to be honest, I think the biggest disadvantage is, well, it's obvious.
51
A lot of people talk about this these days,
52
that they're afraid of local people losing their traditions and cultures because of the influx.
53
That's a good vocabulary word.
54
Because of the influx of other cultures and the greater influence that especially North American culture has on the world these days.
55
So young people, for example, are not into their traditional music or dancing or customs.
56
No. Instead, they're listening to hip hop.
57
They're watching American Idol.
58
they're taking in culture that basically is not theirs.
59
And I think this could be harmful to their own culture over time.
60
So in my opinion, although there are a great many advantages to globalization, this would be the biggest disadvantage.
61
All right, so please listen to this a couple times, guys, and practice your own answers to these questions.

Why practice speaking with this video?

Practicing your speaking skills with the "IELTS Part 3 Questions and Answers about Globalization" video is an excellent strategy for several reasons. First, it provides you with an authentic context, allowing you to hear how native speakers respond to complex topics such as globalization. Engaging with such content not only helps you improve your speaking fluency but also equips you with the vocabulary and ideas necessary to tackle IELTS speaking questions effectively.

Additionally, discussing globalization can be challenging, especially if it is not a frequent topic in your native language. By watching this video, you can learn how to articulate your thoughts clearly in English, thereby building your confidence for the IELTS speaking test. Furthermore, you can enhance your understanding by using shadowing techniques. By repeating what you hear, you can achieve clearer pronunciation and a more natural speaking rhythm, making it easier to improve English pronunciation.

Grammar & Expressions in Context

In the video, several grammatical structures and expressions are particularly helpful for English learners. Here are a few key ones:

  • Opinion Statements: The speaker immediately states their opinion using phrases like "in my opinion," which is essential for clear communication in IELTS. This can help you structure your responses effectively.
  • Examples and Details: The use of examples is crucial when expanding your answers. For instance, mentioning specific local restaurants to illustrate a point about globalization enhances clarity and demonstrates your ability to give detailed answers.
  • Conversational Transitions: Phrases like "to be honest" or "honestly" help create a conversational tone, making your speech more engaging. Utilizing these expressions can also aid in improving the flow of your speech.

Incorporating these structures into your shadow speech practice can enhance your spoken English significantly.

Common Pronunciation Traps

While shadowing this video, pay attention to certain pronunciation patterns that can be tricky for learners. For instance:

  • Globalization: This word can be mispronounced due to its length and syllable stress; focus on emphasizing the correct syllables to improve clarity.
  • Cultures: The "u" sound can be challenging. Make sure to practice the sounds in isolation before integrating them into full sentences.
  • Confidence: Often pronounced quickly, this word can lose clarity; practicing its pronunciation in short phrases can help.

Using a shadowing app can also aid in overcoming these pronunciation traps as you repeat after the speaker. Remember, mastering pronunciation is essential for effective communication, especially in challenging contexts like the IELTS speaking test.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
