1
I imagine you're just a little bit curious as to why I have this rather large pillow with me right now, and it's going to be very clear in a moment.
أتصور أنك فضولي قليلاً فقط لمعرفة سبب وجود هذه الوسادة الكبيرة معي الآن، وسيصبح الأمر واضحاً جداً في لحظة.
2
But first, I wanna share this. When things get tense in a conversation, when there's a disagreement, the way you say something can decide whether a difficult conversation ends in frustrated silence or in progress.
لكن أولاً، أريد مشاركة هذا. عندما تصبح الأمور متوترة في محادثة، وعندما يكون هناك خلاف، فإن الطريقة التي تقول بها شيئًا ما يمكن أن تحدد ما إذا كانت المحادثة الصعبة ستنتهي بصمت محبط أم بتقدم.
3
And that's why in English, we often use very subtle structures or phrases that create a kind of emotional cushion, phrases that soften your message and to help your ideas land with clarity.
ولهذا السبب في اللغة الإنجليزية، نستخدم غالبًا هياكل أو عبارات دقيقة جدًا تخلق نوعًا من الحماية العاطفية، عبارات تخفف من حدة رسالتك وتساعد أفكارك على الوصول بوضوح.
4
One of the most powerful ways to do that in English is with the single word were, as in if I were in your situation, or I wish it were that simple, suppose we were to try another option.
إحدى أقوى الطرق للقيام بذلك في اللغة الإنجليزية هي استخدام الكلمة المفردة were، كما في الجملة إذا كنتُ في موقفك، أو أتمنى لو كان الأمر بهذه البساطة، لنفترض أننا جربنا خيارًا آخر.
5
These examples come from what's called the subjunctive mood in English.
هذه الأمثلة تأتي مما يُسمى المزاج الشرطي في اللغة الإنجليزية.
6

For example, when I say, if I were you, I would, and we do this, not because we're talking about real life, but because we're talking about what if.
على سبيل المثال، عندما أقول لو كنت مكانك، كنت سأفعل، ونقول هذا ليس لأننا نتحدث عن الحياة الواقعية، بل لأننا نتحدث عن سيناريو "ماذا لو".
8
And these phrases aren't just grammar patterns.
وهذه العبارات ليست مجرد أنماط قواعد لغوية.
9

مرة أخرى، هذه هي الطريقة التي نخفف بها حدة الخلاف، وتساعدنا في الحفاظ على إنتاجية المحادثات حتى عندما تتباين الآراء.
11
So today I want to share five were phrases that will help you express your ideas clearly and still be thoughtful, respectful, and professional in English. Now, before we get into these five phrases, I wanna take a little step back.
لذا أريد اليوم أن أشارككم خمس عبارات ستساعدكم على التعبير عن أفكاركم بوضوح، مع الحفاظ على التفكير الجيد والاحترافية والاحترام عند التحدث باللغة الإنجليزية. الآن، قبل أن ننتقل إلى هذه العبارات الخمس، أريد أن أتراجع قليلاً للوراء.
12
I wanna talk about what it means to create psychological distance in a conversation and why it's important.
أريد أن أتحدث عما يعنيه خلق مسافة نفسية في المحادثة ولماذا هو مهم.
13
Psychological distance means using language that helps us depersonalize or downplay personal connection and emotional involvement, but still gives the opportunity to express what we need or want to say, even if it's uncomfortable. For example, in a high stakes conversation like meetings or job interviews, or even giving a team member difficult feedback, how you say something is just as important as what you say.
14
If your words feel too direct, they can sound like criticism.
إذا شعرت أن كلماتك مباشرة للغاية، فقد تبدو وكأنها نقد.
15
If you hesitate or soften too much, the message might get ignored.
إذا ترددت أو لانت موقفك بشكل مفرط، فقد يتم تجاهل الرسالة.
16

وهذه كانت عبارات تساعدك في العثور على تلك النقطة الوسطى.
17

18
They give you listener time to hear your ideas without reacting right away. And they show that you're thinking carefully, not just responding instantly out of emotion. Now, truthfully, English speakers often use these without even realizing it, especially when they want to sound respectful, professional, and in control.
إنها تمنح المستمع وقتًا لاستماع إلى أفكارك دون الرد فورًا. كما أنها تظهر أنك تفكر بتمعن، لا ترد فقط فورًا بدافع العاطفة. والآن، بصراحة، غالبًا ما يستخدم المتحدثون باللغة الإنجليزية هذه الأدوات دون أن يدركوا ذلك، خاصة عندما يرغبون في أن يبدو محترفين، ومحترمين، ومسيطرين على الموقف.
19
So by learning these same phrases, what are they going to actually help you do in an English conversation?
إذن من خلال تعلم هذه العبارات نفسها، ما الذي سيساعدك فعليًا على القيام به في محادثة باللغة الإنجليزية؟
20
These phrases are going to give you language you can trust.
هذه العبارات ستزودك بلغة يمكنك الوثوق بها.
21

عندما تحتاج إلى التعبير عن الاختلاف دون أن تبدو وقحًا، قدم الملاحظات أو النصائح دون ضغط.
22
Share preferences without creating tension and keep your relationship strong even when opinions differ.
شارك تفضيلاتك دون إحداث توتر، وحافظ على قوة علاقتك حتى عندما تتباين الآراء.
23
That's exactly what we're going to focus on next with five powerful were structures that help you do all of this in clear confident English.
هذا بالضبط ما سنركز عليه بعد ذلك مع خمس هياكل قوية لاستخدام were تساعدك على القيام بكل ذلك بلغة إنجليزية واضحة وواثقة.
24
So our first phrase for today is, if I were to, this is your go-to phrase when you want to offer a possibility without making it sound like a firm decision or demand, it adds an extra layer of thoughtfulness and it shows that you're considering an idea, not pushing it on others.
إذن عبارتنا الأولى لليوم هي "لو كنت سأفعل"، هذه هي عبارتك المفضلة عندما تريد طرح احتمال دون أن تجعله يبدو كقرار حازم أو طلب، فهي تضيف طبقة إضافية من التفكير وتُظهر أنك تدرس فكرة ما، ولا تفرضها على الآخرين.
25
That makes it especially useful in job interviews, negotiations or strategy discussions.
هذا يجعله مفيدًا بشكل خاص في مقابلات العمل، والمفاوضات، أو مناقشات الاستراتيجية.
26
Really any situation where you want to sound confident but not overconfident. So let's look at how this works. I might say, if I were to join the project, my first priority would be understanding your current challenges. Here, you're not saying I will do this done. You're saying, here's what I would do if this were a real situation.
حقاً أي موقف تريد فيه أن تبدو واثقاً ولكن ليس مفرطاً في الثقة. لذلك دعونا نلقي نظرة على كيفية عمل هذا. قد أقول، إذا كنت سأنضم إلى المشروع، فإن أولويتي ستكون فهم التحديات الحالية التي تواجهها. هنا، أنت لا تقول أنني سأنجز هذا. أنت تقول، هذا هو ما سأفعله إذا كان هذا موقفاً حقيقياً.
27
It's thoughtful, it's strategic, and it gives people room to think about what you're saying and then respond.
إنه تفكيري، استراتيجي، ويمنح الناس مساحة للتفكير في ما تقوله ثم الرد عليه.
28
Here's another example. If I were to recommend a solution, it would be to address both efficiency and cost. This phrase, if I were to, lets you share your ideas clearly without sounding like you're forcing them on others. And with that, let's move on to phrase number two.
إليك مثال آخر. إذا كنت سأوصي بحل، فسيكون هو معالجة الكفاءة والتكلفة معًا. هذه العبارة، "إذا كنت سأفعل"، تتيح لك مشاركة أفكارك بوضوح دون أن تبدو وكأنك تفرضها على الآخرين. ومع ذلك، دعنا ننتقل إلى العبارة الثانية.
29
If I were in your situation, this phrase is all about empathy.
لو كنتُ في موقفك، هذه العبارة كلها تدور حول التعاطف.
30
It's useful when someone is facing a tough decision, for example, and you want to offer advice, but without sounding like you know better or that you're telling them exactly what to do. And here's how it sounds in action.
إنه مفيد عندما يكون شخص ما يواجه قرارًا صعبًا، على سبيل المثال، وتريد أن تقدم له النصيحة، ولكن دون أن تبدو وكأنك تعرف أفضل منه أو أنك تملي عليه ما يجب فعله بالضبط. وإليك كيف يبدو ذلك في التطبيق العملي.
31
I want you to imagine a coworker's feeling pressured to say yes to a new project, but you can tell they're already at capacity, they are overwhelmed.
أريد منك أن تتخيل شعور زميل في العمل بالضغط ليوافق على مشروع جديد، لكنك تستطيع أن تدرك أنه بالفعل يتحمل عبئًا زائدًا، وهو مرهق تمامًا.
32
So in a conversation with them, you might say, if I were in your situation, I'd ask for more details before committing to the deadline. In this situation, you're not judging and you're not dismissing their decision, you're showing that you've thought about it from their point of view.
لذا في محادثة معهم، قد تقول: لو كنت في موقفك، لطلبت مزيدًا من التفاصيل قبل الالتزام بالموعد النهائي. في هذا الموقف، أنت لا تُصدر أحكامًا ولا تُهمل قرارهم، بل تُظهر أنك فكرت في الأمر من وجهة نظرهم.
33
Here's another example in this one.
34
Let's say that your sister is thinking about switching careers.
35
From design to marketing, and you want to help her make a smart decision.
36
So you could say, if I were in your situation, I might start with a course or certification just to test the waters.
لذا يمكنك القول، لو كنتُ في موقفك، لربما بدأتُ بدورة تدريبية أو شهادة احترافية فقط لاختبار المجال أولاً.
37
This phrase lets you offer real advice without putting pressure on the person receiving it.
هذه العبارة تتيح لك تقديم نصيحة حقيقية دون الضغط على الشخص الذي يتلقاها.
38
And now here's a quick challenge I have for you before we move on to phrase three. I want you to think about someone in your life.
والآن إليك تحدي سريع لدي لك قبل أن ننتقل إلى العبارة الثالثة. أريدك أن تفكر في شخص ما في حياتك.
39
It might be a team member, a friend or a family member, someone who's facing a tough choice right now.
قد يكون عضوًا في الفريق، أو صديقًا، أو فردًا من العائلة، شخصًا يواجه خيارًا صعبًا في الوقت الحالي.
40
What advice would you want to give them in that situation?
ما هي النصيحة التي تود تقديمها لهم في تلك الحالة؟
41
Once you have your piece of advice ready, try starting that thought with, if I were in your situation, it might seem like a very small shift, but it is softer, clearer, and more professional. Now, as always, if you wanna share your example with me, you can do that in the comments below.
بمجرد أن تكون نصيحتك جاهزة، حاول أن تبدأ هذه الفكرة بـ "لو كنت في موقفك". قد يبدو هذا تغييرًا بسيطًا جدًا، لكنه يجعل الكلام أكثر لطفًا ووضوحًا واحترافية. والآن، كما هو الحال دائمًا، إذا أردت مشاركة مثالك معي، يمكنك فعل ذلك في التعليقات أدناه.
42
And now, phrase number three, I wish it were, this is one I really like.
43
It's subtle but powerful because it helps you acknowledge reality, express a limitation, or even gently disagree without shutting down the conversation or sounding negative. And here's how it works.
إنه أسلوب دقيق ولكنه قوي لأنه يساعدك على الاعتراف بالواقع، والتعبير عن وجود قيود، أو حتى الاختلاف بلطف دون إغلاق باب الحديث أو إظهار موقف سلبي. وإليك كيف يعمل هذا الأسلوب.
44
Let's say that your team wants to speed up a launch date, but you know, quality testing needs more time. So in a conversation you might say, I wish it were possible to deliver by Friday, but quality requires proper testing time. In this case, you're showing that you understand the ultimate goal, but you're also clearly communicating the constraint. No defensiveness, no conflict, just facts delivered respectfully.
45
Now here's one more example.
الآن، إليك مثال آخر.
46
Let's say a colleague suggests replacing a feature in your app that's not quite working. It's a good idea, but you know it isn't realistic right now. So you could say, I wish it were easy to add a new feature like that, but that would require a full update and could break existing functionality. As you can see, this pattern softens the no.
47
It helps you show understanding and helps you establish boundaries all in the same sentence. And now moving on to phrase number four, suppose we were, this phrase is an excellent way to open up ideas without sounding like you're forcing someone to go or forcing your team to go in a specific direction. Instead, it invites collaboration. It says, let's explore this together, not here's what we should do.
48
And that's why it's perfect for brainstorming strategy sessions or moments where you want to reframe a stuck, frustrated conversation.
ولهذا السبب هو مثالي لجلسات العصف الذهني الاستراتيجي أو اللحظات التي تريد فيها إعادة صياغة محادثة متعثرة ومليئة بالإحباط.
49
For example, let's say you're in a meeting about redesigning your company's app, progress has stalled or stopped, and the team's not really sure what to do next.
على سبيل المثال، لنفترض أنك في اجتماع حول إعادة تصميم تطبيق شركتك، وأن التقدم قد تعثر أو توقف، وأن الفريق ليس متأكدًا تمامًا مما يجب فعله بعد ذلك.
50
In that moment, you could say, suppose we were starting from scratch.
في تلك اللحظة، يمكنك القول، لنفترض أننا كنا نبدأ من الصفر.
51
What could we design differently? This phrase, it takes the pressure off, it encourages new thinking without judging what's already been done.
ما الذي يمكننا تصميمه بشكل مختلف؟ هذه العبارة تزيل الضغط، وتشجع على التفكير الجديد دون الحكم على ما تم إنجازه بالفعل.
52
And now let's take a look at one more way to use this.
والآن دعونا نلقي نظرة على طريقة أخرى لاستخدام هذا.
53
Maybe your company is considering expanding into a new market.
ربما تفكر شركتك في التوسع إلى سوق جديد.
54
In that conversation, you could ask, suppose we were to enter the South Asian market.
في تلك المحادثة، يمكنك أن تسأل، لنفترض أننا سندخل سوق جنوب آسيا.
55
What partnerships would we need here? You're not making a demand, you're inviting others to think strategically with you.
ما هي الشراكات التي سنحتاجها هنا؟ أنت لا تطرح طلباً، بل تدعو الآخرين للتفكير بشكل استراتيجي معك.
56
And that's what this phrase does.
وهذا هو ما تفعله هذه العبارة.
57
It opens doors without pushing people through them.
إنه يفتح الأبواب دون دفع الناس عبرها.
58
And now phrase number five, I'd rather it were this phrase lets you express clear preference without sounding demanding, difficult or resistant.
والآن العبارة رقم خمسة، عبارة "أُفضّل أن تكون هذه" تتيح لك التعبير عن تفضيل واضح دون أن تبدو مطالبًا، أو صعب الإرضاء، أو مقاومًا.
59
And it's especially useful when you disagree with a plan, but still want to show flexibility and respect.
وهو مفيد بشكل خاص عندما تختلف مع خطة معينة، لكنك لا تزال ترغب في إظهار المرونة والاحترام.
60
But I wanna stop here for a moment because the truth is, if you stop after sharing your preference, this phrase can actually sound quite vague or even a little cold.
لكن أريد أن أتوقف هنا للحظة لأن الحقيقة هي، إذا توقفت بعد مشاركة تفضيلك، فإن هذه العبارة قد تبدو في الواقع غامضة جدًا أو حتى باردة بعض الشيء.
61
And I wanna demonstrate what I mean.
وأريد أن أوضح ما أقصده.
62
You could say in a conversation that I'd rather the timeline were a bit longer. Here you're showing your preference and it's not rude, but it also doesn't invite any discussion or show that you have some flexibility. And so now let's compare that to this.
يمكنك أن تقول في محادثة أنني أفضل أن يكون الجدول الزمني أطول قليلاً. هنا تُظهر تفضيلك وهذا ليس غير مهذب، لكنه لا يدعو إلى أي نقاش ولا يُظهر أن لديك بعض المرونة. والآن دعونا نقارن ذلك بهذا.
63
I'd rather the timeline we're a bit longer, but I understand the urgency and I'm willing to adjust.
كنت أفضل أن يكون الجدول الزمني أطول قليلاً، لكنني أفهم مدى الاستعجال وأنا مستعد للتكيف.
64
Suddenly it's not just a preference, it's a productive professional response. Now, here's another example.
فجأة، لم يعد الأمر مجرد تفضيل، بل أصبح استجابة مهنية منتجة. والآن، إليك مثال آخر.
65
Let's say your team wants a big product launch right away, but you're not convinced that it's the right move. So in that conversation, you could say, I'd rather it were a smaller initial rollout, but I see the benefits of going company wide.
لنفترض أن فريقك يريد إطلاق منتج كبير فورًا، لكنك غير مقتنع بأن هذا هو الخيار الصحيح. لذا في تلك المحادثة، يمكنك قول: "أفضل أن يكون الإطلاق الأولي أصغر حجمًا، لكني أرى فوائد التوسيع على مستوى الشركة بأكملها".
66
That second part where we show that flexibility, that's where the magic happens.
ذلك الجزء الثاني حيث نظهر فيه المرونة، هو المكان الذي تحدث فيه السحر.
67
It shows that you're open to other perspectives and it helps keep the collaboration on track even when there are different sides or different opinions. So whenever you use this last pattern, this last phrase, remember that it's not just about what you prefer, it's also how you communicate it with honesty and flexibility.
يُظهر ذلك أنك منفتح على وجهات النظر الأخرى، ويساعد في الحفاظ على مسار التعاون حتى في حالة وجود وجهات أو آراء مختلفة. لذا كلما استخدمت هذا النمط الأخير، هذه العبارة الأخيرة، تذكر أن الأمر لا يتعلق فقط بما تفضله، بل يتعلق أيضًا بكيفية توصيل ذلك بصدق ومرونة.
68
So now let's put all of this into practice.
إذًا الآن دعنا نطبق كل هذا عمليًا.
69
Let's say that someone on your team is proposing something that you're not fully on board with. Maybe it's a new deadline.
لنفترض أن شخصًا ما في فريقك يقترح شيئًا لا توافق عليه تمامًا. ربما يكون موعدًا نهائيًا جديدًا.
70
A new system, or a change in a process. In that conversation, how would you respond using the structure? I'd rather it were, but I understand, or I'd rather it were, and I'm open to try it out loud, write it down and say it aloud.
نظام جديد، أو تغيير في عملية ما. في تلك المحادثة، كيف سترد باستخدام الهيكل التالي؟ كنت أفضل أن يكون الأمر كذلك، لكنني أفهم، أو كنت أفضل أن يكون الأمر كذلك، وأنا منفتح على تجربته، اكتبه واقرأه بصوت عالٍ.
