Hello and welcome back.
2
I'm Teacher Neo with English Teacher Neo.
3
Today I'm sitting outside and I am in Kansas.
4
Kansas is a state in the United States
5
and Kansas is right in the middle of the United States.
6
If you were to look at a map,
7
you would see Kansas right in the middle.
8
Exactly in the middle.
9
anyhow it has been very windy here in kansas
10
and today it's not so windy so i wanted to come outside
11
and sit for a moment as i sit here for a little bit i listen
12
and i can hear an airplane flying overhead.
13
I cannot see it, but I can hear it.
14
And then I can hear lots of birds chirping.
15
The birds are chirping and they're enjoying this lovely day.
16
the birds are in the trees birds usually will perch in
17
the tree on a branch for a bird to perch that means that they're sitting on a branch in the tree
18
the wind is blowing just ever so slightly
19
so i can hear the wind those are things i can hear as i sit out here
20
I am in the country meaning that I am out where there are open fields
21
and trees and I am not in a city a city has lots of buildings
22
So what can I see?
23
I can see the trees and I can see the leaves swaying back and forth in the trees.
24
And I can look up and I see clouds.
25
There are so many clouds.
26
We call it a blanket of clouds.
27
The clouds have blanketed over.
28
So, kind of like a blanket on a bed,
29
It covers the whole bed.
30
That is what the clouds are doing.
31
They are covering the whole sky.
32
So it's like a blanket of clouds.
33
And what do I smell?
34
I smell the fresh air.
35
I can smell the grass.
36
The grass has a certain type of smell.
37
I'm not sure how to explain it,
38
but I will say after grass has been cut,
39
when you take a mower and you mow the grass,
40
you can smell the fresh cut grass.
41
and it's such a lovely smell.
42
I also smell rain.
43
It did rain just a little bit a moment ago.
44
That means about a few minutes ago.
45
And the rain has a smell to it as well.
46
and it's just a lovely smell.
47
So what do I feel?
48
I can feel the wind blowing,
49
so I can feel it kind of blowing on my hand and my hair a little bit.
50
But I also feel a little bit of coolness,
51
just a little bit,
52
which is why I have a sweater on
53
so I can feel the cool breeze and that's what we call
54
that the cool breeze oh I also felt the cat jump up here here is a cat this is Sunny
55
Hi Sunny.
56
Oh, Sunny just shook and a lot of dust came off.
57
What are you doing Sunny?
58
Sunny just meowed.
59
So I hear Sunny meowing.
60
Hi!
61
What are you doing?
62
Did you come to say hi?
63
So it is hard to see Sunny because Sunny is on the bench.
64
I am sitting at a table
65
and the bench is right here you want to come up here to say hi hmm
66
so I hear another airplane going by
67
and I see in the background I don't know if you notice there are logs back here.
68
Those are logs that are cut from the trunk of trees and they are being saved to use as a fire.
69
So around here, we cut old trees,
70
and we cut the trunks.
71
And then we save them and we can use them for a fire.
72
So let me show you.
73
As you can see, there are lots of small logs.
74
These are called logs and we use them as firewood.
75
and there's a pile of logs right here.
76
We use the firewood for a fire in the fire pit.
77
The fire pit is right here.
78
You can see that this has been a man-made fire pit and you put the logs inside and you light them,
79
meaning that you set fire to them.
80
When you're not using it,
81
then you cover it up like this and it keeps it clean.
82
We keep firewood right here in this round bin so that we can easily grab and use it.
83
Now, if you want a bigger fire than that,
84
then you will make a bigger pile of wood and stuff.
85
And when you have a bigger fire,
86
basically we call that a bonfire.
87
I'm going to show you how we do this.
88
We put lots of trees and other things that need to be burned
89
because it's just easier to burn it and have it go into small ashes.
90
So I'm going to show you,
91
this is where we would do a bonfire.
92
So here you can see this is a big pile of wood and stuff,
93
things that need to be burned.
94
And in the summer, when it is not windy,
95
we will light this and it will be a big bonfire.
96
You want to make sure that it is not windy because if it's windy,
97
it could blow off to the side and get the grass on fire
98
and it would end up being a really bad fire.
99
and then you would have to call the firemen to come out to put the fire out
100
and you don't want that so
101
that is how we do fires around here on
102
the outside i'm walking over to go say hi to sylvester which is another kitty cat that is out here
103
Let's see here This is Sylvester Hi Sylvester Sylvester is a boy
104
He is a boy We call them a tomcat Hi Sylvester
105
so Vester loves getting scratches and he is purring right now all right
106
