1
For 25 years, I've listened to people.
2
I mean thousands and thousands and thousands of people.
3
And one of the things that I think was a very successful part of the healing journey that people went through,
4
and something we did different than anybody else, is when someone came in with a disease, a mental condition, or it didn't matter what it was,
5
we would sit them down
6
and we would first of all ask them do you know
7
why you're suffering from unhappiness do you know why you're suffering
8
from anxiety do you know why you're suffering from stress it
9
didn't matter what it was whether it was heart disease cancer whatever
10
and then we would explain to them why that they were suffering from
11
that illness or that disease or whatever and then we would just allow them, you know, use the who,
12
what, when, why, how questions and walk through and let them, not interrupt them, not, you know,
13
try to talk over them, but let them have at least an hour,
14
hour and a half of their own self-reflection time to where they could talk.
15
How are you feeling in your life right now?
16
What makes you happy?
17
What are the things in your life right now that are holding you down?
18
What are some of the things in your life that you wish you would have been able to do maybe, but you haven't been able to do?
19
Do you enjoy going to work every single day?
20
Do you enjoy looking in the mirror at yourself and asking yourself, do I have self-confidence?
21
Am I happy with myself?
22
Do I love myself?
23
Take steps today.
24
Start today.
25
And one other thing, I definitely want to let everybody know that we do have the happiness course available.
26
And you can use the code HAPPY30.
27
happy 30 and you can get 30% off.
28
So pass that out to anybody you think might need some happiness in their lives.
29
So with that being said, thank you very much.
30
I wish you all a super happy life.

Why This Video Is Great for English Speaking Practice

This video is a goldmine for learners looking to improve their speaking skills. The speaker uses conversational English—casual, unscripted, and full of natural pauses and intonation—that mirrors real-life communication. It’s perfect for learn english with youtube because the topic (happiness and self-reflection) is relatable, making it easier to connect with the content. Plus, the slow, deliberate pace makes it ideal for shadowing, a technique where you repeat phrases immediately after the speaker to mimic their rhythm and pronunciation.

Breaking Down Natural English Phrases

Let’s look at a few lines that sound authentic and why they work:

  • “I mean thousands and thousands and thousands of people.” The repetition of “thousands” adds emphasis, a common way to stress a point in casual speech. It feels natural because native speakers often repeat words for effect, not just clarity.
  • “you know, use the who, what, when, why, how questions and walk through” The phrase “you know” is a filler word that makes speech sound less formal. Native speakers use fillers like this to pause and organize their thoughts, so including them in your practice helps you sound more fluent.
  • “Take steps today. Start today.” Short, imperative sentences are powerful in spoken English. They’re direct and easy to remember, making them great for practicing intonation—raise your voice slightly on “today” to convey urgency.

A Simple Shadowing Routine for This Video

Here’s how to practice using this video with a shadowing app or even just a voice recorder:

  1. Watch the video once to understand the content.
  2. Play a 5-10 second clip, pause, and repeat it immediately. Focus on matching the speaker’s tone and pace. Use a shadowing site or shadowspeak tool to loop the clip if needed.
  3. Record yourself repeating the clip. Compare your recording to the original—note differences in pronunciation, pauses, and stress.
  4. Repeat with longer clips (15-20 seconds) as you get more comfortable. This english speaking practice loop helps build muscle memory for natural speech patterns.
