Pratica di Shadowing: How To Solve The App Onboarding Paradox - Impara a parlare inglese con i video

Creazione lezione...
1
On average, apps lose 77% of their users within three days.
2
Not because they have bad features, not because their marketing is broken,
3
because of one onboarding choice that's either buying you retention or killing it.
4
And most founders don't even know this is the lever to pull.
5
So in this video, I'm going to break down the one rule that flips the 77% number around, the app killing it right now with a two-screen onboarding,
6
and a counter case that breaks the rule on purpose and still wins big time.
7
By the way, I'm Tim.
8
I've spent the last decade designing digital products from big tech to startups all over the world.
9
And the difference between an app that hooks users in week one
10
and an app that loses them in less than three days comes down to one rule that most founders get wrong.
11
The thing is, most apps out there onboard like government forms, sign up screens, permission requests, walkthroughs.
12
By the time the user gets to do anything, they click through screens that to them have seemingly little to do with the value of the product.
13
And if your product isn't heavily dependent on personalization, the fix usually isn't more onboarding.
14
It's onboarding that does the work for the user, not work for you.
15
The clearest example of this is Granola.
16
It's the AI Notes app that raised $125 million in March, 2026 at a $1.5 billion valuation,
17
six times what it was worth 12 months earlier.
18
Their onboarding is two screens.
19
Screen one, signing with Google.
20
Screen two, grant microphone access.
21
That's it.
22
The next thing you do is open Granola during your next meeting.
23
The app records, transcribes, summarizes.
24
The value lands in the very next thing you were already going to do.
25
Many apps in the AI productivity space will onboard with sign up, then a feature tour, than maybe a Goals Wizard.
26
Granola skipped all of that.
27
Just two screens to value and they're growing like crazy.

30
Now, here's where it gets interesting and counterintuitive.
31
Some of the fastest growing apps in 2026 have absurdly long onboardings.
32
Cal AI is the calorie tracking app that did 35 million dollars in revenue in its first year.
33
Their onboarding is a 20 plus step quiz.
34
Think about that, you answer 20 plus questions before you ever see the product.
35
Noom, the weight loss app worth billions, runs you through 113 onboarding screens.
36
If short was always right, those apps wouldn't thrive.
37
So what's going on here?
38
These long onboardings do two things at once.
39
And this is the key thing to understand.
40
One, they earn a personalized first experience.
41
CalAI asks a lot of questions because without that data, the moment you land on the home screen would feel too generic.
42
Like every other calorie track, the long onboarding is the trade-off.
43
You give up speed, but you get a first experience built specifically for you.
44
Two, they filter for buyers.
45
Users who bounce on a 20-step quiz were less likely to convert anyway.
46
The ones who finish are showing you they have deep pain and willingness to pay.
47
Long onboarding kind of self-selects in that way.
48
That's why it works for Cal AI.
49
Calorie tracking is a deep pain niche where personalization really matters.
50
The quiz is both a buyer qualifier and an aha moment builder.
51
So here's the actual rule to remember.
52
By default, keep your onboarding as short as possible, or better yet, surface tangible value as fast as possible.
53
That's the rule for most apps out there.
54
The exception kicks in when long onboarding buys you something users actually really need in order to stick.
55
Either a personalized first experience that wouldn't be possible without the data or a filter that gets you actual buyers.
56
Apply this and I can assure you that your retention curve will start looking healthier.

  • "flip the number around": invertire il numero (es.
  • "lever to pull": leva da usare (es.

Correggi i tuoi punti deboli

Inoltre, imparerai a usare frasi come "the difference between... comes down to..." per confrontare concetti, una struttura fondamentale per esprimere opinioni in inglese.
