our next guest is a talented actress starring in a new film opened today entitled Harry Potter in the Order of the Phoenix please say hello to the lovely Emma Watson how you doing I'm doing good
2
thank you very much for being here congratulations on the film you must be very excited opening earlier today yeah really close it is this like number four number five this is number five and it's made like over three billion dollars or something these movies around the world haven't
3
they yeah a lot of money that's just remarkable isn't it yeah it is amazing and what what do you project for yourself Beyond this did anything come to mind uh well I have another year of school left
4
school yeah yeah are you a good student uh I try to be yeah what kind of marks do you get what kind of grades do you get in school um I'm pretty much in a a student oh yeah yeah
5
thank you and do you have plans to go to college yeah I want to take a gap here first so I can kind of can you see a gap year that's a year off right yeah yeah um so I can just kind of finish the last
6
uh film and hopefully do some traveling and just have some fun and then go on to UNI so so there will be one more and that'll be the last is that what you're saying no there's two more two more and then that'll that'll be the last yeah yeah and when in the last one everybody gets killed
7
well I hope not I mean I think that really would be um yeah it'd be too bad a very depressing yeah
8
yeah bummer I think quite you know the kind of millions and millions of fans all over the globe might be slightly disappointed by that definitely you know kind of hoping for like you know a Redemption and a really like no in addition to to being one of the pivotal characters in the
9
series are you also a fan of the the books do you read the books I was a huge fan of the books even before I started auditioning so yeah I'm absolutely huge I mean I mean I can't wait for
10
the seventh book I'm literally like oh yeah I mean obviously I have an invested interest because I want to know what happens to Hermione but also I'm just such a big fan so it's really big now when
11
you uh what was the process like to audition for the part initially how old were you when that took place I was nine nine years old yeah um well it's I can't actually explain to you how crazy it is
12
now I'm older that I realized that I got that role I I went to a normal school it wasn't anything to do with performing arts or anything I've never done any professional acting before um and they
13
by chance they came to my school they went kind of all over well Britain really trying to find Thai Hermione and Ron and said have you got anyone that you want to put forward and um I used to do like poetry recitals and I used to debating and I've been in a couple of school plays so they put me
14
forward for it and um and it just kind of went from there yeah were your parents uh supportive or they were a little cautious about this well I mean as I said before I was such a big fan and
15
acting and you know I mean I never really thought that being an actress was a reality but I really wanted that I mean if I could do that that's what I really wanted to do so it was really funny they kind of really um they knew that if I didn't get it I would I mean
16
devastated is not a big enough word I would be absolutely just I just yeah so um I mean I was convinced I had to have the role it was me I was definitely gonna get it like I wasn't thinking
17
of anything else so my parents were like baby come on millions of girls are auditioning for this that's right and they all feel the same way about it yeah and they all want it too and um you know they were really just kind of trying to bring me down and will not bring me down I
18
mean obviously they were supporting me but just kind of no I understood like give me the reality of just like how small the chance I actually had so but um I got it so it's good and uh
19
so do you but but you can't have like a normal kid life I mean you're you're in you're going to college you hope to go to college but do you drive can you do you have like a driver's license actually I just got my provisional so I've had I've had about three lessons now out
20
um I mean I love it I can't wait to be able to drive but uh it's hard good driving doesn't really run in my family jeans my mom has possibly the worst driver ever and um oh my God yeah every week
21
she'll come home be like this bottle I think you call it like a like a barricade or something here barricade yeah yeah she comes back and she's like yeah barricader just jumped out at me and there's
22
another scrape on the car and I'm like okay Mom yeah yeah yeah I mean my friends literally get in the car and you know you have the things you hold on to on the side they're just like hey Jackie so but actually I I'm okay I'm okay I'm not quite but now where are you learning to drive
23
you're learning to drive in England yes yes yeah and and then likely when you come to this country maybe you'll drive in this country and it's different here you know yeah well I'm as I went to
24
um South Carolina because my grandparents um come come over here quite a lot and um yeah and they you could drive over there like 15 or 16. I was so jealous I couldn't believe it but in terms
25
of you got to be on a different side of the road well yes yeah yeah I think I think I would find that quite struggle I'm having enough difficulty as it is just keeping straight let alone like well it really is because it's counterintuitive because you you reinforce your intuition about
26
driving in a certain location and then when that is reversed it makes you because you you go loopy yeah yeah no I can imagine that being fair yeah so be very cautious if you do that I
27
will maybe I'll just avoid it all together if you can sure yeah uh do you have plans for the summer
28
um actually well not really like big plans I just kind of after all this kind of Harry Potter Madness I'm kind of just wanting to go home and just like be at home with my friends when you
29
were a kid what sort of things did you like we knew that Diddy spent his Summers with the Amish
30
yeah yeah I know seems unlikely but that's what he did yeah
31
yeah and how did you spend your uh Summers as a kid um gosh well I live in Oxfordshire I guess just kind of in the Parks and kind of um actually have you heard of punting kind of like it's kind
32
of like a flat bottomed boat really long you stand at one end with it with a pole and you kind of Punt along no well obviously you haven't it's really good fun and um that was kind of I still do
33
that now actually that's not just like when I was a kid um yeah here we do that on Fourth and long
34
so you go out on a little boat and with a pole and yes yeah
35
kind of it sounds really boring like okay so you're on this boat you've got a pole you're going along whatever but um actually it's quite hazardous I mean especially if you if you're as bad as I am that's it you kind of hit One Bank okay now turn around hit the other bank
36
okay I'm not going to the next one it's really really bad and I've um and also those swans and they kind of attack you as well yeah oh my God swans you didn't tell me there would be swans I
37
really selling the experience to you am I no um yeah so but it's really good fun and you kind of take take a picnic on it with you and you and you can actually fit like kind of like five or six people in each box just another day on the lake or the stream or whatever yeah it sounds very
38
pleasant yeah let's uh let's take a look at a clip from the film The Order of the Phoenix uh and it opens uh today what will we see here oh I think the clip is of um Ron and Hermione dueling in
39
um the room of requirement so and basically she kicks his ass sorry to get away and everything all right so it's a Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix let's take a look
40
not that trick again
41
that's unbelievable that's exciting
42
all I can say is wow
43
that wasn't what they said um let's let's try it again let's just try it again let's see what it looks like there might have been some punting involved there let's take a look
44
nice going way to go yeah well it's going to be enormous and congratulations enjoy your summer good luck with your license thank you for being here Emma Watson ladies and gentlemen

  • "by chance":偶然に。「They came to my school by chance」のように、予期せぬ出来事を表す際に使われます。
  • "bring me down":現実的に考えさせる。親が子供の夢を冷やすのではなく、現実を教える場面で使われ、「They were trying to bring me down to reality」のように使います。
  • "pivotal character":重要な登場人物。「She is a pivotal character in the series」のように、物語の核心的な役割を表します。
  • "gap year":休学年。大学進学の前に1年間休むことを指し、「I want to take a gap year to travel」のように使われます。
  • "run in the family":家系にある。「Driving doesn't run in my family」のように、家族全員が共通して持つ傾向を表します。

これらのフレーズは日常会話やIELTS スピーキング対策でも頻繁に登場し、自然な英語を話すために必須です。

あなたのシャドーイング・チャレンジ

shadow speakの練習として、次のタスクを試してみてください。ビデオの中でエマ・ワトソンが「I was nine years old」から「it just kind of went from there」までの部分を選び、シャドーイングを行ってください。
