1
Okay, let's begin.
2
Yes.
3
Okay, so could you tell me your full name, please?
4
My full name is Kang Hong.
5
Would you like me to spell it?
6
No, it's fine.
7
No, it's fine, okay.
8
And are you working or are you a student?
9
I'm currently, well, I'm going to become a student next year.
10
I'm working on the process of becoming, or attending university, application process.
11
And what major did you choose?
12
I think I'm going to go into pharmacy school, so like the pharmaceutical area.
13
Yeah, okay.
14
And why did you choose this major?
15
I chose this major because I'm interested in the areas of biology
16
and chemistry and pharmacy school is a way I can study that in depth.
17
And also I want to be able to help other people through this process.
18
So I thought that was a good major to study for that.
19
Great.
20
And what do you like doing when you have some free time?
21
One of the things I really enjoy doing in my free time is reading books.
22
I read all different kinds of books and I just really enjoy it
23
because I get to live another person's life I can see through other people's perspective, which I think is really valuable to me as well.
24
Okay, now we're going to talk about your home.
25
So what kind of housing do you live in?
26
I currently live in an apartment.
27
I think it's slightly different from other apartments in that it's only like six floors or something.
28
But I think it's similar to other apartments as well, yeah.
29
And what is your favorite room in your home?
30
My favourite room is my bedroom, just because there's a bed in it and I sleep in the bed.
31
Also, it's just my place to relax whenever I watch movies or read.
32
I do it on the bed so it has nice memories attached to it as well.
33
Do you think you will live there for a long time?
34
Really, it's not up to me.
35
I'm guessing it's going to be my parents
36
and the contract of the housing but
37
if it were up to me I think I would like to live there because I don't like moving.
38
Okay and what's the difference between where you are living now and where you have lived in the past?
39
Yeah so I have lived in different countries as I was growing up.
40
One country that I've lived in is India and India is very different from Korea as well.
41
So just in the setting and the people, the culture, that's very different as well.
42
Okay.
43
Now we're going to talk about meeting places.
44
So where is your favorite place to meet your friends?
45
One of my favorite places to meet my friends, though I haven't met many,
46
is a place called I think I really enjoy that place because there's a lot of people, a lot of restaurants that we can hang out in, but also
47
There are a lot of theaters there and I really enjoy watching musicals and plays as well
48
so by hanging out there we can we have we have access to different kinds of
49
theater plays Restaurants whatever that we can do making it a great spot to hang out in
50
And do you think some places are more suitable for meeting than others?
51
Definitely, because I meet my friends because I want to do something with them.
52
I want to pursue an activity with them.
53
But if I go to places where there aren't a lot of choices or things that I can do with my friends, then it becomes less fun,
54
I guess, to hang out with my friends.
55
And so it's better to meet in certain places where there are different kinds of things can do
56
and different activities that we can access.
57
And are there any differences between your favorite favorite meeting places now and when you were a child?
58
Yeah, I guess the difference the main difference would be what I was doing in those meeting places.
59
These days I would again watch movies or eat and hang out just generally with my friends.
60
But I would imagine that when I was younger I would go to playgrounds perhaps
61
with my friends to hang out and that in itself the activity is different
62
and therefore the meeting place will also have to change as well from playground to i guess popular street
63
or a popular meeting place yeah perfect all right
64
that will do for part one we'll go on to part two now
65
okay so here is your question let's give you a pencil there as well
66
so i'll give you one minute to take some notes, okay?
67
Okay.
68
You can begin.
69
Okay, that's one minute.
70
Okay, so your question.
71
Could you describe an important thing that you learned not in school or college?
72
Yes, throughout my life an important thing that I've learned
73
and stuck close to is to always be grateful with what I have
74
and go based upon it and I learned this
75
when I was moving and living abroad and
76
so I've lived in various countries and
77
so I've always had to move around in different places and
78
because of that I've always had a little bit of a disconnect with my friends
79
because I had to move around whenever I got close I would have to change my country
80
and so I would always um I through
81
that process I learned to be grateful to be positive in the current situation
82
and I learned it by I guess trying to just evaluate the situation in a more positive mindset
83
and look at things that I can gain from it instead of the things
84
that I've lost and it's really important
85
because it gave me a more positive outlook on life
86
and also it allowed me to stay motivated to study
87
or hang out with my friends or meet new people instead of dwelling on the things I've lost or the past.
88
So yeah, the saying to always be grateful is what I've learned.
89
Very nice.
90
And who taught you this skill?
91
Yeah, I think it's, I'm gonna have to say my parents because
92
I've talked to them a lot of times when I was struggling with my current situation.
93
For example, I remember on my first day back, I think second grade of my new school,
94
I really struggled because I was constantly reminded of my past school and my past friends.
95
I wasn't able to really focus on the current situation and the present.
96
And by talking and conversing with my parents, I was able to learn I can kind of get out out of this dark spot, or this
97
I guess, to by being grateful with what I have
98
and focusing on the positive parts of the current situation rather than the negative parts.
99
And, yeah, so my parents would be the answer.
100
Great.
101
Really nice.
102
Okay, so now we'll go on to part three of the test.
103
Okay.
104
Okay, so yeah, the first question, what can children learn from parents?
105
Like I said, I think students, well children can learn from their parents their attitude in life, how they go about living their daily life, their mindset as well.
106
And I guess that's one of the many things that they can learn from their parents.
107
And it's really important to learn that from their parents because the parents have lived many more years than the child, child and so they have gone through that process of finding
108
that right mindset or finding the positive outlook
109
and they can kind of pass it on to the child rather than the child having to go through trial
110
and error to figure that out on their own
111
which is really important for a child in their life
112
and going on this mmm and what other influences do children have when they're learning in their childhood?
113
Other than their parents I think an important influence would be their friends not just
114
because like for example a lot of students go to school
115
or academia and in that process they meet a lot of friends
116
and they hang out and spend a lot of time with them
117
and therefore it's inevitable
118
that they start to I guess adopt a lot of their mindsets their way of speech
119
or things like that and therefore it's important to have good friends I believe
120
because that can change your course of life or
121
that can change your attitude which can really alter your future as well
122
so your friends can also have a big influence on you mm-hmm yes
123
and do you think some children are well behaved
124
because they are influenced by their parents I guess is a fundamental question in the discussion of like nature
125
and nurture I believe part of it I do believe
126
because I do studied science and biology and things like
127
that part of it does come from genetics
128
and their natural I guess body
129
but also a lot of it does come from their parents
130
and their surroundings and so that part is nurture aspect and
131
so it's important that they have a positive influence from their parents
132
so that they can grow to be more I guess well behaved
133
or fitting in society yeah
134
and how should parents handle excuse me how should parents handle
135
a situation where their children are misbehaving in public right
136
so I think that's a question that a lot of parents would struggle with
137
and I'm not sure I would have the answer because I'm not a parent
138
but if I put myself in the parents' shoes, I think one important step is to first tell this child
139
that it is not right to do this in a public setting
140
and I guess give them a friendly reminder first instead of just going straight into scolding
141
or being mad at them because I can start to have a negative impact on them
142
and they can have a negative outlook on the whole situation and rather Other than that, we can give them something positive to focus on and say,
143
while this that you did was good I think you should do this
144
or kind of guide them in a certain way instead of scolding or even hitting or abusing
145
Your child which is really important on the child's development as well.
146
All right And is it necessary for adults to learn new things?
147
Definitely It's very important for adults to learn new things.
148
I think as human beings we're constantly evolving we're constantly adopting to new situations
149
or new things and just because we're adults
150
or past a certain age doesn't mean that we stop learning
151
or stop gaining new things from life especially attitudes like I mentioned
152
but also skills
153
or manners of behaving in certain situations like for example I
154
have always been in high school for four years I've been in high school
155
but now I'm becoming a college student that requires new skills, new things I need to learn,
156
new attitudes and therefore I'm I guess I am an adult technically
157
but I'm still growing and evolving and learning new things which is important for any adult as well.
158
And what kind of new things do you think elderly people should learn?
159
Elderly people, so like I think one important thing for elderly people to learn, though I don't want to sound condescending in any way,
160
would be to I guess accept or I guess go with the flow of the modern society.
161
I think a lot of people kind of get stuck in the past
162
and thinking this is how it used to be
163
and now we have to put that on our children and make sure they live a certain way as well.
164
I think it's important for them to learn
165
and evaluate the current situation see the course of history I guess
166
and how things are how things are changing and kind of adopting to that
167
and not restricting their student I mean restricting their children in
168
any way of saying you have to sit in this tiny little box
169
but also allow them to try different things as well and so that's a new skill I guess for them to learn.
170
Okay perfect that will do us thank you very much.
171
That's it.
172
All right, so now let's start with the feedback.
173
Okay, so I thought it was an excellent test.
174
I think that's definitely enough for 9.0, your fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary,
175
all excellent, all very high level.
176
One thing I would say in part two, right, spoke for like just over a minute, maybe a minute and 10, minute and 15.
177
So in the real exam, I would always say to students try to keep speaking for the full two minutes
178
and you don't really need to have a conclusion in this one
179
but you know it's it's in the exam it says between one to two minutes
180
but i would usually say just try and keep speaking but
181
that was great um yeah
182
and just just want to point out some like very positive
183
things like good expressions i asked you one difficult question about how should parents handle a misbehaving student
184
and obviously you don't have that experience but you said
185
if I put myself in their shoes in their situation so
186
that was really nice expression you use some nice nice phrasal verbs nice idioms nice expressions all the way throughout
187
so it was really clear really good test so thank you for your answers thank you all right thank you
