Hello and welcome to Food Safety Fridays.
2
My name is Simon Timpley from the International Food Safety and Quality Network.
3
Best day of the week when we have this one hour session where we all come together from all over the world,
4
learn about food safety and quality and have a good chat before the weekend.
5
And so tell us where you're joining from in the sidebar.
6
As usual, let's say a few hellos.
7
Collins from Guyana.
8
Seneca from Phoenix.
9
Mark from Texas.
10
Who else have we got?
11
Stephen from Ontario, Canada.
12
Nanthavon from Thailand. Where else?
13
Davoka from Canada.
14
you've got from Chicago let's pick someone who's got the most
15
far-flung place from loads of people from the US today okay
16
much there from Iran everybody you're very welcome to food safe
17
fries today the topic is sqf edition 9 to 10 what changed
18
and what new must update before 2027 i'm sure a lot of you out there have uh got sqf certification
19
or working towards it but if you've not even
20
if you're brc ifs fssc something like
21
that i'm sure you might learn some tips about what's new in food safety standards so okay
22
so i'm going to play the sponsors ads one thing to
23
be aware of today's presenter harmy core from um qr aci consulting um he's not here today she's traveling
24
but has pre-recorded the webinar for us so
25
i'm going to play the sponsors ads then i'll play harmy's webinar
26
and then we'll do the usual issue in the certificate
27
and i don't know i i don't think i'm in a place to answer questions on sqf nine to ten
28
but we'll just see what comes up in the chat okay
29
so i'm going to play the sponsors ads for now i'll see you back in a couple of minutes
30
I'm sorry.
31
hello we're back thanks to the kind sponsors of ifs twin for many years metal toledo
32
and trace analytics they're great so appreciate your support um right so as i said this is a recording
33
uh we'll play the presentation and then i'll come back on the end for a little chat okay
34
hello everyone good morning good afternoon Can you guys see my screen?
35
Please give me a thumbs up in the chat or the QA box.
36
Good.
37
All right.
38
You guys can hear me.
39
All right, then, guys.
40
Welcome back again.
41
Like I said, good morning, good evening.
42
Thank you for joining us today before we dive into sqf
43
edition 10 i'm just going to go through a few logistics today everyone is in listen mode only
44
so we won't hear background voices let's use the uh the question
45
and answer box please uh for any questions you may have in
46
which we we will go through towards the end and
47
and we'll follow up in case we didn't have time today this session is recorded
48
so you will be getting a recording after we are done in your inboxes
49
and let's look into this what changed between edition 9
50
and edition 10 and what you guys actually need to do before january 2027.
51
all right i am harmeet kaur director of food safety uh training
52
and consulting right here at kiva asi i've spent more than 18 years in food manufacturing covering food safety regulatory
53
quality and product commercialization i hold a master's degree in food safety from michigan state
54
and i have a certificate in international food law regulations
55
and i'm also an approved lead instructor for i'm an atp for brcgs sqf fisma preventive control for human food
56
and now i'm also a lead instructor for food traceability rule 204
57
which is the new fisma food uh additional requirements on term
58
in terms of uh traceability today we are walking through the
59
transition from sqf edition 9 to edition 10 the way i
60
would frame this will start from edition 9 focus on what
61
of your food safety system do you have in terms of procedures records the controls
62
and edition 10 shifts basically on how well are those programs
63
actually working are you are they risk aligned uh can you
64
demonstrate continuous improvement uh it is a definitely a move from checking boxes to measuring impacts
65
uh a quick note on how we are before we get
66
into content uh kiva asi is a third party product safety auditing training
67
and consulting company based in st louis missouri
68
and we have been delivering farm to folk food safety solutions
69
since 1940s we are accredited certification body for the major gfsi schemes such as sqf vrcgs fss c20 2000
70
and primus plus iso standard cannabis safety and quality
71
and full range of gmp gdp and gap audits on the training and consulting side
72
we support clients with the online on-site training with food safety
73
plan has of development food safety culture programs food fraud food defense assessments and uh audit audit preparation
74
and our mission is straightforward make certification and training easy
75
because we are here to help your business grow protect uh
76
your consumers of course they stay ahead of the regulations
77
so our clients ranges from small regional sites to coca-cola cura leaf and sprouts
78
all right guys so this is the main question it is why why do we have to have this edition 10.
79
The why behind Edition 10?
80
SQFI looked across thousands of audits and noticed and saw a real disconnect.
81
Sites were achieving excellent E or G ratings, 90 plus scores, and still standing up in the recall situations of regulatory issues.
82
So the gap between the score and the actual food safety performance is the single biggest driver behind Edition 10.
83
The three goals you'll see on this slide, first is clarity, reducing ambiguity in audit language.
84
So two auditors looking at the same evidence, reaching the same conclusion.
85
Second is risk alignment, making sure the score on the certificate actually reflects on how well the site is controlling their highest risk areas.
86
And the third is modernization.
87
Now, SKF has moved to fully digital experience, which we'll talk about in a few slides.
88
The headline is this, that Edition 10 emphasized on core clauses
89
and then human element on food safety or food safety and not just the paperwork.
90
So, a lot of people have been asking this question, which is, which code should I use?
91
So the short answer is, if you guys are in addition 9 until December of 2026, then addition 9 will still be there,
92
meaning it will be against addition 9.
93
But if you are planning next year audit, starting January of next year, you will be automatically falling under addition 10,
94
given that it is still contingent upon the GFSI benchmarking application process.
95
So any changes will be communicated to you guys.
96
We do send our newsletters.
97
We will update on our website as well.
98
We will communicate to all our clients that, hey, edition 10 is actually going to start from January 2nd or not.
99
As if now, still the plan is that audit starts with the edition 10 is expected from January 2nd, 2027.
100
Okay.
101
So in use edition nine, if your audit occurs before the mandatory edition 10 implementation date, which is your January 2nd,
102
2027, you will be audited to edition nine and use edition 10 if your audit occurs on or after mandatory implementation date.
103
Okay.
104
You will be in edition 10 then.
105
If you had an audit under edition nine that resulted in surveillance audit and
106
that audit is scheduled after the mandatory edition 10 your surveillance
107
audit will be still against edition 9 core requirements code requirements
108
and certificate cb your certification body will not mix these requirements from both editions in a single audit
109
all right so let's look into the structural changes uh
110
which is worth knowing so first is interactive code selector no more downloading
111
and printing 100 pages pdf the platform generate the code based on your scope now
112
so in real time second is the implementation tool is now
113
baked in your guidance documents checklist clarification sit alongside the clauses
114
rather than living in a separate document you have to hunt down third is consolidated codes
115
if you certify against multiple food sector categories you get a single merge view now and then last is reorganization
116
they have moved food sector category 14 now formally includes plant-based product now
117
which has been in the gray area in the past new food sector category 18 has been renamed food ingredient
118
and now combines honey with the rest of the food ingredients
119
food sector category 19 has been renamed as food additive manufacturing
120
so if you produce in any of these categories double check
121
which food sector code applies to you in uh under in edition 10 like i said uh first thing is
122
that they have digitalized uh you don't have to
123
if you go actually in the sqfi website they made it
124
very easy now you basically click on the codes food sector category
125
and it will generate codes for you right there they do
126
they did introduce 183 total definitions uh 42 are the new definitions
127
and 30 modifications
128
and then they redefined 30 definitions here in the edition 9
129
the appendices the definition guidance supporting document lived in the back of the pdf
130
and updates to them required a full reissue of the code
131
in edition 10 now these former appendices appendices have transition to dynamic digital document
132
that means sqfi can push real-time update push translations into
133
multiple languages simultaneously and the version you are reading is actually always the current one
134
so look at the numbers on for example on the right side of the slide here
135
there now again shows also the addition nine amendment 10 faqs glossaries
136
guidance and checklist multi-site and rest of the information is right there
137
Part A of the code is that most practitioners paying the least attention.
138
So, it is the program rule, the audit process, and the certification body procedure.
139
But Edition 10 makes real changes here that affect your timeline and your risk.
140
So, four areas to know.
141
First, the audit process itself has been updated, including a new option called vertical audit approach, which we'll cover on the next slide.
142
Second, certification timeline have also been tightened now.
143
The windows for closing out your corrective actions and for the CB to make a decision have specific days now, count nows.
144
Third is that the complaint
145
and appeal process has been also formalized with the new submission deadline
146
and the fourth corrective action close out gets a stronger emphasis on the root cause now
147
and verification of your defectiveness so even
148
if you delegate uh your cb relationship to your consult you
149
know to consultant you as the practitioner need to know these deadlines before they affect your certification status
150
so this is the one of the most practical changes in
151
your audit day in addition 10 auditors may now follow a vertical audit approach meaning they trace a single product
152
or single lot through your entire process from reviewing your raw material into your production through storage
153
and out of auto distribution the purpose as you see on
154
the slide is to verify the effectiveness of your system as
155
an integrated whole not just clause by clause practically this change
156
how you should prepare make sure you your record lines up lines up across your department that receiving log, your production records, storage temperature log,
157
for example, shipping manifest for the same lot all tells a consistent story.
158
Where addition nine audits sometimes feel like document inspection in a conference room, addition 10 audits will spend more time on the floor walking the product flow.
159
So make sure you do train your flow team accordingly.
160
Mark these numbers down because they are firm.
161
For corrective actions and for corrective certification decision, you have 40 days to close out your corrective actions from your audit,
162
and the CB has 50 days to issue the certificate decision.
163
That's tighter than you some of you may be used under Edition 9, especially if you have historically taken 60
164
or 90 days on corrective actions on the complaints and appeal side
165
if you want to appeal the results of a technically reviewed
166
audit report you have 15 days to file with your cb certification body that's your cb not sqfi
167
and if you want to escalate to sqfi directly that's five day window okay
168
so any complaints about an auditor for example about a cb process must be filed within 85 days
169
so i would say practical advice is over here is build these deadlines into your audit calendar
170
and your kappa tracker so you don't lose your certificate over a missed window
171
all right edition 10
172
so before we look at the new scoring let's anchor on what you are used to Addition nine score, each clause against four categories, right?
173
You get score of zero.
174
The aspect meets the criteria, no deduction.
175
A score of one is a minor non-conformance.
176
You get a small deduction.
177
Score of five, which is a major, a large deduction.
178
And a 50, which is a critical non-conformance, which essentially fails the audit.
179
So your final rating is 100 minus the sum of those deductions, right?
180
96 to 100 is your excellent.
181
85 to 95 is good
182
and both of these keep you in a 12 month audit cycle and as you know 70
183
to 85 is complying which drops you to six month surveillance and then below 70 69 you fail right
184
unannounced unannounced surveillance cycle with no certificate this is the system
185
most of you have been operating in for years now
186
and that's one that produced the disconnect sqfi is trying to close with addition 10.
187
So before I really reveal addition 10, a quick question for you guys.
188
What score range correspond to grade G rating and what is the audit frequency?
189
If you guys want to type up in the question and answer, that would be great.
190
What score range corresponds to grade G as if not in addition 9 and what is your audit frequency?
191
you guys can write your responses in q a you degrading
192
85 to 95 okay
193
and what's your audit frequency look like is it annual six months annually that's correct thank you
194
but now in addition 10 that has changed here is your new scoring system
195
there are two big shifts this time okay
196
and i want you guys to please pay attention to a couple of these slides
197
because i'm sure it's going to be confusing at the beginning
198
but i'm sure this slides will help you the first is
199
the rating bands are different 80 to 100 is certified
200
which i'm going to show you in the next two slides uh
201
and then basically so the first is the big one is is introduction of a core clause.
202
A minor core clause on a regular clause is still a one point, but a minor on a core clause will deduct your two points now.
203
A major on a regular clause is five, but major on a core clause is seven now.
204
Okay.
205
So the core clauses are listed in also in the next slide I'm going to show you guys.
206
So first we need to understand the audit rating is based on the type
207
and the number of non-conformances issued during your audit, and it also reflects the site's condition.
208
And based on the evidence that collected by your auditor,
209
each applicable clause of this SQF certification audit is automatically scored in the audit report based on the following factors.
210
Like a core clause, minor and major apply only to specific risk clauses in the SQF code.
211
So, for example, water source will be identified within the primary code,
212
meaning all same core clauses are not same in every code.
213
Okay.
214
So, in the finding issue to a required to in the following clauses are core clauses.
215
And what are core clauses?
216
Management commitment, approved supplier, food safety plan,
217
EMP, environmental monitoring program, intelligence sanitation and foreign material those are your core clauses remember
218
if you get minor you get two points deducted major you get seven points out now okay
219
so these requirements like i said identified within the code
220
if you guys have downloaded edition 10 code from the sq5 website you will see
221
that some of most of these clauses the one in the core clauses are actually
222
identified as a core clause so this is your new rating on look like
223
if you get between 100 to 80 sorry 80 to 100 you're certified g
224
and e are gone you're basically simply certified
225
and your audit window cycle is still annually still 12 month audit cycle
226
if you get 70 to 79 you get certified with surveillance
227
and you will get certificate
228
but as you guys know in next six months the surveillance audit will happen
229
if you get 69
230
or below you basically fail in the initial audit no certificate will be issued
231
and if you are certified with unannounced surveillance then site is immediately suspended certificate issued upon successful site visit
232
and again six month unannounced surveillance audit is required.
233
So this is the major, major change here in the scoring itself, guys.
234
There is no G-excellent anymore.
235
You're basically getting certified or you don't get certified.
236
Okay.
237
So next question is what are these core clause?
238
Why did they came up with this strategy here?
239
So core clause is because this is the single most important conceptual change here.
240
The designated requirement is that if it is not effectively controlled,
241
it possesses significant risk to food safety and to integrity to your SQF system.
242
So these are the clauses where a finding most often correlates with the recall, a regulatory action, or a contamination event.
243
That is why they came up with the new concept of basically calling it as a calling out as a core clause.
244
What if the site receive a finding of a requirement within designated core clause?
245
So the non-conformances against core clauses are weighed more heavily.
246
We just noticed that in the scoring system, right?
247
Due to their critical role in preventing food safety failure.
248
Like I said, minor, you get two points out.
249
Major, you get seven points out.
250
So those are weighed heavily.
251
They are typically associated with systemic control and preventive program that, if deficient could lead to widespread contamination,
252
product withdrawal, or regulatory non-compliance.
253
So for those reasons, they came up with the core clauses here.
254
Examples of a core clause, management commitment, approved supplier program, food safety plan, environmental monitoring program,
255
allergen, sanitation, and foreign material control program.
256
These are your core clauses.
257
Now, will the core clause be the same across the all codes?
258
Answer is no. So, if you are in a, for example, primary plant production, your core clause might be different than the manufacturing code.
259
Okay.
260
So, there will be designated core clauses for each code.
261
For example, in the SKF primary plant, they included the water resource as a code clause.
262
Okay.
263
But you will not see that in your probably module
264
if you're doing 2
265
and 11 in the food manufacturing you will not see as a core clause okay
266
so those are that's what it is uh these are what
267
core clauses are going back again just to show you guys this is your new scoring system
268
and you get two points out uh
269
if you have a minor sorry you get yes two
270
and you get major you get seven points out okay uh the high impact edition 10 changes now
271
so we are going to spend a couple of time a couple of minutes in each slides here
272
because these are the highest impact where edition 10 they made changes
273
uh the one most likely to the surface is finding your first edition 10 but
274
if you don't plan ahead we are going to be in trouble the first is the food safety culture assessment plan
275
In the addition nine, I'm sure you guys are all aware that they did talk about culture a lot.
276
But in addition 10, they made another change.
277
They added a culture assessment plan now.
278
Edition 10 requires you to assess and measure it.
279
So you really have to basically come up with the culture assessment plan.
280
And in the addition 10, you will see also there are a bunch of requirements that they are asking.
281
I would suggest you to look into a guidance document also on the website.
282
They have provided enough guidance to kind of like what's in the assessment plan, what do I include.
283
I would highly recommend to read that section there.
284
The next is change management procedure.
285
Change management is also a brand new clause 2.3.5.
286
Edition 9 had pieces of this in a scattered around the code, but in the Edition 10, what they did, they pulled it together in a single mandatory code clause requirement
287
the third one is environmental monitoring risk assessment in the edition 10 now it require you
288
that your emp actually built on a documented risk assessment
289
and not just start with a sampling plan
290
and pretty much you know calling out that program in the sampling
291
and that's it that's not what they're asking you have to
292
do a risk assessment in your environmental monitoring for sure now okay
293
so let's look into this again one more deeply here
294
the food safety culture beyond your checklist
295
so in the edition nine they mentioned food safety culture
296
but treated it largely as a soft requirement so talk about in management review
297
mentioned in your training in edition 10 it made a documented accessible program
298
so you need to have a formal culture assessment plan
299
and it need to address four pillars what it does it
300
need to address communication strategy your training program your employee feedback
301
and measurement and evaluation
302
so it's not enough to say we have a culture program you need to show the data now
303
that can be culture survey results behavioral observations on the floor near and miss reporting trends,
304
training comprehension score, and any matrices that you can trend over time.
305
And here's your auditor approach.
306
You should expect in addition 10 that your auditor will lean more heavily on the interviews with your operators,
307
floor observations to validate your culture program rather than just reviewing your documentation, okay?
308
So the culture program has to be visible at the line and not just on the paper.
309
So that is, again, a mandatory assessment plan.
310
And so I would highly recommend you guys to please pay attention to this one.
311
The next change is it is a brand new clause, also change management, which is a core clause.
312
It's both mandatory.
313
It is both.
314
It's also a core clause, which means if finding hair costs you more point.
315
Why?
316
Because if you do not manage change is one of the leading root causes behind food safety failures.
317
So, addition 10 require you to document and implement a procedure that evaluates any change.
318
That change could be temporary, emergency, unplanned, or it could be you made as a result of a corrective action for its impact on food safety.
319
So, at a minimum, your procedure has to address change in product formulation, manufacturing processes, material, ingredient, label,
320
equipment, specifications of your raw material, packaging, and chemicals and finished product and your food safety plan including your critical control limits.
321
So each change has to be confirmed or validated, documented, and you need to communicate in a time frame that keeps the food safety intact.
322
So what's your action item here?
323
If you don't have a standalone change management procedure today, that's your first writing task for this year,
324
I would highly suggest, since again edition 10 will be kicking in next year.
325
And on August 11, I will be doing a joint webinar with provision on this topic, change management.
326
We will notify you guys through newsletter on our website.
327
I highly recommend if you guys would like to know exact about change management or more, please put on your calendar.
328
It's going to be on August 11th.
329
Then module two also made several updates to the management commitment
330
that I will walk through with you guys and I want you guys to walk through with your senior leadership as well.
331
So, class 2.1.1.2 now requires you to affirm a positive food safety culture across your entire organization, not just the site management team.
332
Class 2.1.1.3 adds the food safety culture assessment plan we just talked about
333
and they have aligned the wording with the GFSI benchmarking.
334
Next, class 2.1.2.1 management reviews now annual with your specific list of required input, annual
335
system trends trending our program recall regulatory issues where in edition
336
9 they use the word periodic edition 10 says annual with
337
the defined content again i will highly recommend you guys to review this 2 1 2 1
338
and 2 1 2 2 because they have added more specific here the programs
339
that you need to review on an annual basis
340
and to be honest with you i think this is a really good change
341
because up till edition nine we kind of like confused okay
342
how many programs we need to review annually since a lot of programs did call out annual basis
343
and sites have gone a non-conformances have got caught non-conformances
344
because oops we forgot
345
that i think this is a really good change for you
346
guys to keep you know things on uh you guys can
347
basically keep an eye on this through your uh review meetings annual meeting
348
and add those in there uh 2122 monthly review they also
349
added a agenda format identifying what gets reviewed each month
350
so concrete action items here are update your management review agenda
351
now to include your new required inputs build your monthly review cadence
352
if you don't have one and pull recall and regulatory issues and you and your peers into the conversation.
353
So I personally love this change 2.2.1 and 2.1.2.2 because this will give you,
354
especially as a practitioner, this is a really great change for you guys
355
because you guys have monthly meetings with your senior management leadership and this will align very well, the vision.
356
Then this also, there was a cluster of documentation simplifications here they added on
357
records section 2 to 3 addition 9 listed mandatory records inside each individual program
358
which led to a lot of duplication in addition 10 they combined all mandatory annual records in one requirement now
359
and added a new requirement that you actually identify
360
which records you maintain then in 2 3 1 1 the word realization has been changed to implementation
361
to clarify the intent here.
362
And there's a new requirement to reassess food safety when a product is reintroduced after being discontinued.
363
Clause 2331, all contracts are now combined into single element rather than scattered here.
364
Clause 235 is the new change management requirement we just discussed.
365
Clause 2411, the food legislation now explicitly includes your customer and company requirements alongside regulatory ones.
366
And the clause 2413 is reworded, actually, to include your regulatory actions or involvement in an outbreak.
367
So in addition, 10 is less prescriptive, less duplicative, and more focused on what your system actually works.
368
Then they also made some changes in the sampling, environmental monitoring program, corrective action, and internal audit.
369
244 is sampling inspection and analysis now explicitly applies to your all products now, raw material, work in progress,
370
and finished product plus other food safety evaluation.
371
Clause 244 to remove the annual proficiency testing now to align with ISO.
372
4.5 rewards to the external lab reference to the ISO or equivalent in international, which addresses the region where ISO is not a local norm.
373
uh class 248
374
which is the environment monitoring like i said it is a
375
really really big change here is now mandatory with the documented risk assessment behind it
376
so please look into that
377
if you have not done any risk assessment i will highly
378
highly recommend to do it now before you know you guys wait
379
and get that because it's it is a code clause as well and as you know if you get major and minor,
380
you will get deductions more than your regular deductions.
381
2531 expands on corrections, corrective action, and preventive action to explicitly here include recall,
382
inspection, and the regulatory infractions and negative food safety trend with a stronger emphasis they added on the root cause.
383
And this is another one, guys, 2541.
384
I really like this one it has created a lot of
385
confusion in the past where the internal audit they have separated inspections from internal audit as the differences was causing confusion
386
and they tighten the expectation around the root cause
387
and the verification of effectiveness
388
so you will notice in this section they have moved the inspections to a separate section
389
but internal audit is just a standalone internal audit uh like i said a lot of people were thinking oh
390
if i do gmp inspection i am doing an internal audit
391
no those are two separate different things internal audits are different than your gmp regular inspections right
392
so they made a clear change on that
393
and they separated out inspections from internal audit so that was a really good change
394
uh the last cluster of these document updates is actually on the recall and the withdrawal In training,
395
class 2631, withdrawal and recall, they now include a risk evaluation that considered product that's left your facility control.
396
2633, they reworded to clarify when you need to notify a food safety event,
397
reasonable probability of causing serious adverse health consequence or death, or a situation that may cause temporary
398
or medically reversible health consequence on the training 2912 is a new element
399
that identifies a specific role requiring a documented competency assessment anyone developing
400
or maintaining food safety plan for example monitoring your ccp implementing corrective actions including root cause analysis
401
or if you're conducting internal audit gmp
402
or supplier audit plus any other role you have identified as critical
403
so this is a really good one where they are asking you to have a documented competency assessment now
404
and then they also mention for which relevant staff
405
and in what what role they are playing in probably you
406
know these areas um 2913 combine all the instruction requirements previously
407
scattered through the code into a single cleaner element now
408
so the takeaway is the edition 10 wanted to prove competency
409
for the people doing the highest risk work not just a
410
log attendance i always make a no make a you know a comment on this typically
411
when we do the trainings people sit in the training they
412
nod their heads they fill the form they put their signatures
413
and training is done and if you ask them a couple of weeks later
414
or days later they're like oh yeah i remember
415
but i don't remember right what was that training about
416
so this is a really good one competency testing again especially people who are in this high risk work
417
or high risk area
418
so you just don't need this log attendance you still you gotta do a little bit more work here
419
and make sure you do assessment on their knowledge, right?
420
You're checking.
421
And that can be done through quizzes.
422
That can be done also on the job observation, on the floor observation also, right?
423
Or just the interviewing too, right?
424
Hey, how are you doing?
425
What are you doing?
426
Why is it a CCP, for example?
427
What is that critical limit here?
428
What would you do if something goes off, right?
429
Or out of the limit?
430
So you're basically assessing their knowledge, especially when they are doing
431
this important work or meaning or the positions of the task
432
which may have impact on the food safety
433
so i will highly recommend please uh look into these specific roles for this relevant staff
434
that who are maintaining again food safety ccp is here directive action
435
and of course root cause analysis has been a big one uh who people who are actually conducting the audits here
436
if you're doing a supplier audits and of course and the inspections
437
so uh that's on the changes here now key resources for your transition
438
so before you go to uh we're gonna go into q
439
a session here are the resources i would like to point you to please go to the official sqfi website
440
and download your edition 10 there it is free as you guys know
441
if you have pulled a copy yet
442
that is your step one sqfi also published a transition guidance document which
443
that does a clause by clause comparison of your edition 9
444
to edition 10 that's the document i would put in front of your team for the gap assessment
445
if you guys are performing your internal gap assessments the gfsi
446
benchmarking requirements version 2022 is the global uh framework edition 10 is aligning right now
447
so it is a useful content right there uh
448
if you like i said
449
if you guys want to do a gap assessment internally you guys can
450
or you guys can request kiva asi as well we are
451
more than happy to do your gap assessment from addition to a nine to edition 10
452
and then of course we have specific trainings as well we just added an advanced practitioner training for the sqf
453
or the backup sqf practitioner which is happening next month in june so
454
if you guys are looking into sqf training practitioner advanced practitioner
455
training i will recommend you guys to visit our website
456
so transition timeline overview here uh right now is the time
457
that you guys can again download the edition 10 start with the gap assessments
458
start building your action plan the addition 9 to addition 10
459
changes like we noticed the changes here will uh go there
460
and you know basically and then update your documentation start training
461
conduct your internal audits of course and then as you guys know in six months
462
if you if
463
if they are going for edition 10 starting january then yes you guys are ready to go for edition 10
464
so please check with your cb check your certification body for your monetary transition deadline
465
and like i said we are barely getting into june
466
so you still have six months easily or maybe more because of your audit timeline for smooth transition.
467
Starting now, I will highly recommend you guys to start now because you have time now
468
in one of my um sqf class somebody said can i start updating edition 10
469
and i said yes if i were you i will
470
but i will also not lose edition 9 documents please be
471
careful don't remove your edition 9 just like you know make a separate folder for edition 10
472
because as you guys know it is still they are anticipating from january 2027 for edition 10
473
but in case sqf does go back meaning edition 9 is still out there then you are still edition 9
474
so i just don't want you to lose your documents for
475
edition 9 i want to make sure you guys basically have
476
edition 9 as well as you guys are working towards your
477
edition 10 top transition pitfalls to avoid treating it as a
478
documentation exercise only as you guys know it is not just a documentation only there has been tremendous
479
or i would say significant change right here
480
which is again your culture your emp plan your a lot of things in the management right
481
so please make sure that you alters are going to look for evidence for the real change
482
and not just a document so meaning you guys have made the change updated implemented
483
and it's actually showing on the floor under estimating your has a preview
484
so please look into revised validation requirements which may require full
485
has a pre-write supplier notification i did a uh last month only in the supplier approved supplier
486
they have made some changes in that as well
487
so please look into your how are you approving your uh
488
suppliers based on risk here leaving culture training to hr hr
489
is probably not the only department to provide the training
490
or sometime right department for certain trainings so please look into
491
that is a cross-functional program it does require or include operation quality
492
and leadership so please make sure that
493
when it comes to culture it's coming from top to bottom okay from your senior leadership
494
and waiting for certification audit deadline internal audits must reflect addition 10 requirements before your certification audit so building in
495
ahead is will be a really good one again not to wait until the last minute will not really help
496
you guys and key takeaways
497
so put a bow on this four takeaways start early the audit dates feel far right now
498
but when we'll compound the site
499
that finished first to do the gap assessment probably you guys can start gap assessments now
500
and i would not suggest you to do in q4
501
Use your internal audit as your tool between now and your first edition 10 external audit, right?
502
Your internal audit should be scored against edition 10 clause.
503
That way you guys can pretty much exercise in a way, you know, hey, if it is a minor, you know, core clause, two points are out.
504
If it is major, it's seven points out, right?
505
So engage your leadership as well here because edition 10 puts more weight on the management commitment as a core clause.
506
So senior team can't be passive here.
507
So they need to own the assessments, the review cadence and the culture program so please involve your cross-functional team
508
and of course your senior leadership and change management
509
that is the engineering your procurement your r d your operation not just the qa
510
so the the transition is most welcome
511
when it's cross-functional project uh with the named owner and timeline
512
and exact executive your sponsorship
513
So I will highly recommend to include all these right parties in your meetings and talk about start edition 10.
514
As you guys know, we've been running this six part web series throughout.
515
This is our third webinar.
516
So most of you who have been joined us in who joined us in the last two webinars, you will get a code for 30 percent off on our next trainings.
517
I will also specifically flag here that on July 15th, we will be doing a food safety culture where we're going to talk about this culture assessment plan here.
518
This is directly tied to your Edition 10 assessment plan and will give you practical measurement framework here.
519
September 16, I will be talking about digital traceability solution.
520
This is your rule, FDA traceability rule to afford additional requirements for the traceability purposes
521
so if you are under
522
that rule uh fisma rule 204 then highly recommend you guys to attend
523
that and december 2nd what sqf edition final prep what authors will be looking here uh
524
and again this is right before your edition 10 starts
525
so these are all free as you guys know registered you guys can register on our website
526
and i will hope to see you guys in the next three uh webinars as well
527
and as i said you most of you have completed with us two webinars
528
so you will get a code to use for our any course for one course 30 off and
529
if you finish four you get 45 off we have a
530
sqf conversion course coming up on june 15th we have advanced practitioner course on edition 10 running june june 23rd
531
and 24th this is specifically built for practitioners who already have their foundation
532
and want to focus on your post-implementation activities
533
so basically how to maintain your food safety management system on
534
an ongoing basis how to manage corrective actions effectively as a new core clause weighing
535
and how to verify your prereq so
536
if you guys are the person at the site who owns the addition trend transition
537
that course is for you uh food safety culture also is
538
coming up in later in the year where we're going to talk about your assessment
539
and like i said now we have released our fda fisma food disability rule course as well
540
and the uh that is coming up in july uh as well
541
so if you guys want to use the code for any of the courses feel free to use
542
that so in the end i would say thank you very much for your time
543
and attention i hope this session gave you not just the clear picture of what edition 10 requires
544
but kind of like practical framework where you can begin
545
and again to recap the single important action is i would
546
download the edition 10 from spfi.com identify your own core clauses depending on the food sector category you are in
547
and start a gap assessment and if you guys want to partner with the gap assessment with cb go for it
548
and uh let's open up for your questions please drop them in your question box
549
and i will work through as many i can
550
so i have first question here is the sqf transition guidance
551
document provided for all code different from the primary code yes kelly
552
if you go to sqfi website.com right now you will actually notice
553
that that the guidance documents are there for all the codes
554
uh actually a guidance spread all go different from primary code
555
so they i don't they have not done by the code though the guidance document still the same
556
if that's you're asking for
557
is this shared with us recording yes you will steven you will get that presentation uh when we send you yep
558
actually uh i can share kelly maybe my our website to show you
559
where exactly you guys can find the information can you guys see my screen right now
560
so i can show you guys so
561
if you go to the sqfi.com right now can you guys
562
see my screen can somebody please say yes yeah uh okay
563
so if you notice that the sqf code
564
and right here they have guidance documents so
565
but in the guidance documents it's it's right here
566
if they haven't made by the code though kelly if that was your asking um
567
yeah they have not done by the code though this is just the regular
568
but if you guys look into your uh
569
sqf code right here you guys can like i said download
570
your sqf edition 10 for example i'll just go food manufacturing
571
right here is your checklist then they have also gave you the change document right here
572
and the guidance documents are right there as well uh
573
and then if you guys new to sqf
574
and you don't know how to look for the code now
575
that's what they did this time you guys basically come here and say
576
if i'm a daily hair right for example then this it's
577
going to give you exactly what code applies to you
578
and then you guys can just download it from right there
579
so they did a really good job this time how to
580
select your codes you guys can select your codes right here
581
that's what they made changes uh next question are there any changes related to the hazard analysis of ingredient
582
so there are no changes in there dylan
583
but again supplier approved supplier here
584
so you gotta do a risk assessment for your ingredients here right what's your risk look like
585
and then of course you will be later on assessing in
586
the hazard analysis of the ingredient i will highly recommend you to look into your approved supplier uh clause
587
which has uh some updates there so read through that
588
and make sure you are doing the supplier check for the approval program process of your ingredient and go by risk category.
589
Any more questions guys on the SQF edition 10?
590
question on the scoring side or core clauses
591
if no then thank you again for attending we you will get the recording of this uh and then
592
of this webinar
593
and i hope to see you guys next in july in terms of food safety culture
594
so thank you again and you guys have a great uh rest of the week
595
and uh good luck with your edition 10 thank you guys
596
okay uh that was a bit of a strange one
597
that was hamid hamid kawa from uh director of training
598
and consulting at Kiwa ASI and that was a webinar that Hamid conducted a little while ago but
599
Hamid was supposed to be live today but obviously couldn't make it because of traveling
600
with work so instead we thought we'd play that so even
601
so hopefully you got some useful information out of it in terms of how to prepare for transitioning between sdf9 and 10.
602
Obviously some of you might have questions
603
or put questions in the chat obviously with Harmi not being
604
here she obviously won't be able to answer those questions
605
but what we will do is we'll try
606
and get Harmi back to do another session later in the year
607
and also be here live so that she can answer your questions
608
and take them but hopefully you got something out of it anyway um
609
you will still get a certificate of attendance i'll put in
610
the sidebar i will follow up with the recording of this recording a copy of the slides
611
and your certificate so everybody will get that by email in the next hour or so
612
so it's great uh thanks for attending today we've got on
613
the uh the 12th of june we've got nikki smith from
614
sample to certificate the science behind compressed air analysis um then
615
got coming up in june the evolution of iso 22 000
616
lessons from a 21 year old food safety management journey is it really 21 years since iso 22 000 was released
617
that's incredible i feel really really old now
618
and also we've got a training course coming up um i think actually two we've got practical internal auditor
619
which will actually include
620
because that's on the 5th of june it's actually next next
621
friday uh practical internal auditor with tony connor for our training
622
which will be very uh good they always are
623
and then towards the end of the month we've got modern food safety culture implementation
624
and measurement with vladimir schinsky so i'll update you with those uh we'll send the regarding slides and certificates
625
soon uh apart from that have a great weekend and we'll see you next week take care bye
