if you didn't know

and today i have my beautiful friend anita

this is anita she's going to be helping me today she has never had lashes before

so we're going to do like i guess like a question answer situation where um

or like a mock let's say like a mock consultation we haven't talked about anything yet

so i'm basically going to give her a consultation you're going to ask me a bunch of questions

that you have like new questions about basically being a new client

and we're going to go through that

so this is basically what you should be doing every time

you have a brand new client uh it doesn't matter

if they've had lashes

or haven't had lashes before uh it's just a good way to kind of build a relationship with your client

so that's getting it so generally when a client comes in i would ask them

if they ever had lashes before and then just kind of go from there

so first question i already know you've never had lashes before

so what do you know about lash extensions uh very little okay i just know

that you can't use mascara on lashes that's literally that's all

i know okay that's fine i mean like you're not supposed to

and you definitely will this that's actually really funny

because that's a really common thing people say they're like oh yeah i wouldn't need mascara right

but when you see them you won't even remember what mascara is okay

so i know you have like a few questions

so let's just go ahead so

when picking a lash technician how do you know what are

you looking for what should i be looking for do i

look for certification do i look at their previous work how should i know who i should go to okay

so this is a really common question so

when you're looking for a lash artist it's based on a few things

so you want to make sure obviously you're going to someone who's certified um

you can a lot of lash techs actually put up who they're certified by

or um you can ask them and they're open about it

so you can always dm be like hey are you certified you actually have to ask

if they're certified because there's a lot of lash techs out there who are not certified

so you want to make sure you're going to someone certified is there like the school

that they have to get certified from

or just a general certification just a general certification um there are schools

but you they don't have to go to a school they can go to someone who offers certification um

but as long as they're uh a well -known place um then that's okay

so first of all make sure they're certified

and then second of all it's all about a style

so let's say you're looking for someone who does makeup um

you would kind of look for what you like right so

if you're looking for a makeup artist

and you see this girl's uh this person's account you would kind of see

if it fits what you're looking for right um

you would say hey this is too dramatic this isn't dramatic enough like you would kind of go like

that and lashes are very very uh personal to the lash artist

so they offer a certain style of lashing

and then you kind of see if that works for you

because there are lash artists out there

that do a lot more volumes a lot more dramatic lashes and

if like someone like you you've never had lashes before

i'm sure you're not looking for like to fly away yeah

so how would i know like my first time getting lashes

what would be the best set for someone who's never done it before okay

so the second question I usually ask is

if you actually wear strip lashes

so for people who work some people wear strip lashes every day

or very often so those clients generally are looking for something a little bit more dramatic okay yeah

because they're used to

that look right for someone who doesn't wear strip lashes very often

it's more of a natural look you're going for to kind of substitute your mascara

so that would be more of a classic look

so in this scenario you can kind of do some of your research before

and you can kind of see what you've seen on other clients

and then as the lash artist i can ask you before

you come in hey um take a look at some pictures see what you like

and then send me the pictures and i can tell you what

that set would be you know what i mean got it i'm looking for something that's

if you wear lashes every day you'd want something a little more full whereas

if you're just wearing mascara every day going to work

or going to wherever you want something a little bit more natural looking like a daily wear right

because like i mean some people don't want volumes for a daily wear no yeah

so you don't want to fly away

so how long do lashes last for okay

so uh this is the this question it kind of depends on you

so some people have oilier skin

and then they could fall off faster some people have drier skin um

and then they kind of last a little bit longer yeah there's different factors

that um what am i trying to say there's different factors

that um allow your lashes to last longer

or a shorter period of time so it's all about retention

and it's also on me so if you're going to reputable lash artist

that knows what they're doing

and have done it for a long time they have a range of retention

that they know my lashes i can guarantee you my lashes lost you at least two weeks oh okay

so on an average my clients personally um two to three two

and a half to three with proper care with proper care um

and then obviously like i said it's very personal sometimes

so let's say do you have oily skin uh combination combination

so sometimes when people have oily skin their lids get oilier

and then the lashes break down with oil so they could fall off a little bit faster

it's also based on the strength of your natural lashes so if you naturally have thin hair, weak hair, the lashes will fall off faster

because your natural lashes can't hold the weight oh wow girl i didn't know

that um there's a few other factors too um

it the biggest one is like cleaning your lashes yeah

that's i think that's my biggest question is how do you maintain

and take care of your lashes like can you wear makeup

on your lashes should you wear makeup on your lashes

when washing your face do you have to like wash your

face in a certain manner like what's the proper care of after getting lashes okay

so a lot of people have this question too um a lot of lash techs actually recommend

you don't wear makeup but i don't think

that i don't have an issue with any of my clients wearing makeup

and they don't necessarily come back faster if they wear makeup versus

if they don't okay um

so you can totally wear makeup uh the only thing is obviously mascara do not put mascara

and then the one thing is also waterproof eyeliner don't put waterproof eyeliner on

because it has a residue that doesn't come off

so therefore it gets stuck in the lashes

so generally our lashes are meant to protect us from dust dirt debris all

that stuff daily so it catches everything now our lashes are very thin

versus the extensions so

when you apply extensions now it's a bigger shield for everything to get caught

so you have to make sure you wash them

or it'll hold on to more dirt debris

so you actually do have to wash you do yeah so

when you get your makeup like

when you do your makeup you would take it off normally like how you would

when you're normally wearing makeup the only thing is you have to make sure you don't use oil products

because like I said oil breaks down the adhesive so

if you I did this and I accidentally put the Neutrogena wipes oh no yeah

and i wiped my eye and i realized

that it was the neutrogena waste

and it just like one eye just like just came off

and then i saw them and i was like no i was like mom what do i do

so definitely um don't use anything oil -based

so like missler water would be okay missler water is what i recommend okay

so you so what i do personally is i use the philosophy purity

makeup room from Sephora I'll take off my makeup with that

and then I'll kind of lightly rub my lash

or my lid with it just to make sure there's no dirt on my lid

and then you can take the micellar water on a clean eyeshadow brush

and then just run it through your lash line

and then it's it's clean after that so you don't recommend like

so for example I use baby wipes to take off my makeup um

so I'll use baby wipes and then I'll use a little bit of micellar water

and take off my makeup so

when it comes to my lashes should I just put like a little spoolie in micellar water

and just kind of like okay so the reason I don't recommend the spoolie is

because the spoolie isn't actually cleaning your lashes the spoolie is just kind of brushing through oh

you have to use like a brush or something to really get in

because it's not the actual tips of the lashes

or the middle of it that gets dirty it's the root

so you have to make sure you're getting the root of the extension

so that way it doesn't build up

because what happens is it builds up protein

and it'll break off the the font

so for I feel like I was gonna tell you something

baby wipes baby wipes are they oil -free yeah oh the huggies okay huggies natural caramel yeah yeah

so um you could totally wipe off your makeup with that

and then just the only thing i don't recommend is wiping your lids even

if there's like shadow or anything on it

because sometimes the fibers in the wipes could catch on the extension

and it like gets stuck or it pulls

and it could pull off the lash

so yeah that's that's a no on your lid

so how do people like put on like okay my biggest thing is

that when you say for example i went to a party

and i want to do a full cake face i'm just worried about when i have to take it off

Mm -hmm like how would I take off my eyeshadow then?

Okay, so that's when I use the purity the purity takes it off

Is it like the the cleansing balm?

Yeah, not the balm the um

It's like the it's it's makeup remover or it's cleanser

It's just a cleanser, but it's like a creamier cleanser.

Oh, okay Yeah, so I use that but mistiliter water will take it off too

So don't don't use like an actual like wipe or anything

No use like a cleanser cleanser

and then just kind of rub it in like that's what I do I'll rub it in even

if I have liner or whatever I'll rub it in

and then it'll just come off

and then you just wash

it as normal obviously don't rub your eyes no just don't rub your eyes just wash it off

and then you can just pat your face exactly okay yeah okay yeah it's not

that much right if i don't wear everyday makeup

and i have my lashes done and i'm going in

and out um but i do moisturize and cleanse my face every day

so you would just recommend the same thing just cleanse your face just be kind of careful with your eyes

and then just pat your face dry and miss the water

and miss the water on the lashes yeah okay

because the thing is is like like i said like on a daily basis our lashes catch like debris

and dirt right so just keep it clean

so keep it clean okay yeah for me personally like

when i wash my face with the purity like on a daily basis uh my lashes are super clean still

so yeah so even when i don't necessarily like wash my lashes every single day um

because i don't wear makeup every single day so i'll wear makeup

and then if i don't wear makeup i'll do a deep clean on my lashes

but on a daily basis i'll wash my eyes

and then kind of just like rub them here

and like really give it like a nice um kind of deep clean

but not like a deep clean not harsh and not harsh enough

that where i could feel the lashes rubbing together just like i didn't give it a cleanse

you know what i mean because then there's there's clients out there

that also feel like if they don't clean their lashes their lashes are gonna last longer

and it may it may last longer because they're stuck on there

but what happens is that when i go to fill them

they're disgusting yeah they're obviously there's stuff in it there's stuff in it

and like people don't realize that and they think i don't know

but i know it's sad so

when you have to do a new set versus filling a set what's the time length of each process

so um like what do you mean like the actual like

when you're doing your first set how long does it take

and then when you're filling it does it take the same amount of time

or is it faster faster

so your first set depending on how many natural lashes

you have could take personally for me anywhere between two to two

and a half hours

and then um for a fill it's usually half the time half the time

but that being said you have to come back with having 40 of the lashes okay

if you have less than 40

that is considered a full set then you just end up taking i don't take them off

so the thing is is every time you come in for a fill i take off the ones

that are grown out so the ones that are grown out

or if it's kinked or if it's going like the wrong way

or something that yeah you take it off and then you just reapply

but i don't take off all the lashes

it's like filling your nails except they don't take off the nail right they just grind down what's there

and then they fill they really do it on top exactly so that's a good uh analogy are you good

okay so if i wanted to get my lashes done before going on vacation

or even going on a trip would you recommend that yes

so that's like super common a lot of people do get their lashes done usually

you have like your one -offs that just do it for vacation

or like for an event um especially in the summer

it's totally fine the only thing is a lot of people

end up trying to come literally like the day before

or the night before they leave

because they think logically like hey the faster i get closer

i get it done to leaving the longer it'll last yeah it's not true i personally recommend like through trial

and error um you come at least two to three days before you leave

because what happens is here in like canada we have our own climate

but then depending on where you go the climate's different

and the thing about lash adhesive

it's not like regular glue where it dries adhesive um uses moisture in the air to cure right

so what happens is you have to have your lashes in a temperature controlled environment

so let's say our climate um it'll dry at its own pace

so it does take 24 to 48 hours for it kind of like set to set yeah exactly

so it takes 24 to 48 hours for it to like cure set um

but then what happens is if let's just say you go away faster than

that time period um now the climate's like totally different

if i go to like a humid place let's say i'm going to like mexico mexico

or something and it's super humid and then now the lashes are sticking together

because it's not giving enough time for the adhesive didn't cure properly

that and then you get stickies and then they didn't cure properly

and they'll pop off so

and then they want people want to know why did their lashes not last

and then when it didn't cure properly

and then they go in the water it's just a disaster

so if they did set properly say for example i come a few days before

and i go on vacation and i want to go into a pool

or the beach or something i'm okay to do

that with my lashes on yeah 100 yeah yeah

because i like i had gone to st lucia in december

and i i wore up my lashes

and uh pool totally fine um beach totally fine the only thing

and i don't think this is so much about lashes

but like when that salt water hits your eye yeah it burns

but will it affect my lashes though

if you rub it yeah like that's what happened to me i like rub the crap out of them

because i was like i don't care it's burning oh no yeah

but other than that you're fine

so what's what would you think would be in your expertise what to avoid

when you have your lashes on what should i not do okay what are the do's

and don't so like in a general statement

so obviously don't rub your eyes don't tug on your eyes don't pick your lashes

it's a lot harder than it sounds

but picking your lashes is very satisfying don't do it

and then sleeping so

when you sleep the best thing for you to get is a silk pillowcase

i mean a lot of people don't do it

but a silk pillowcase will avoid your lashes from tugging yeah

so that's something people a lot of people don't know actually

so when you wake up don't rub your eyes no no no no no

and sometimes the thing is with lash extensions you'll realize is

that you don't feel them on you're gonna forget you have them on

and you want to like you know but catch yourself yeah exactly

so um definitely don't rub your eyes sleep with the silk pillowcase

and then if you don't sleep with the silk pillowcase um stay try to sleep like upwards

or like what I would do is

if I sleep on my side I kind of put a hand here

because then what happens when you come for your fill whatever side you sleep on

that side has less lashes yeah

it's just like it just happens right stay away from any type of like mist

or steam when you get them done so originally generally

when you get your lashes done you don't get them wet for 24 hours

so try to shower before you come um

or let's just say like now what time is it it's like one o 'clock

so you shower probably this morning and then you can shower again tonight

because you have enough time you know what i mean

but again when you're in the shower you kind of go in

and get out like you don't want the steam to the same same thing as you going to mexico

and like the humidity the steam will steam will get to

it exactly okay yeah yeah do you think lashes are for you yeah i think so i think i'm excited

i want to see the transformation of what it's gonna look like yeah we're gonna like evaluate your lashes

and then kind of see what how healthy your natural lashes are

so me looking at you i can't tell

so a lot of people want to come in

and they're like hey look at me what are my lashes look like no

and everything i can like see what your natural lashes actually look like

and then we can just go from there my friend said she got lash extensions for her wedding

so she didn't get strip lashes put on she had she had extensions

and they were full extensions

and then the makeup artist just kind of went around went around it

and she was very gentle she said she did an amazing job

and her lashes they're fine they look like big lashes they look natural a fun fact

but there are a lot of makeup artists don't like extensions no no

because it like hinders them right they have to like be very careful very gentle and they can't like, you know what I mean,

putting liner on is like tricky, and then once you put shadow on, sometimes it gets stuck in the lashes,

and then like, you can't get it out, yeah, like, you have to be obviously a lot more gentle, very gentle, yeah, for sure,

so I guess if you're doing a more of a natural wedding look, having lash extensions would be no problem,

yeah, yeah, yeah, if you want something a little more dramatic, it might be a little bit tougher, I mean, you could do it,

like, I mean, like, I used to do it, it's fine, but like, it's just like, generally, like, some makeup artists will be like,

don't wear it, they just have to be more careful, yeah, and they don't want you to wear extensions, you know what I mean,

or they want to put lashes over top it,

so you have to just be careful like you have to make sure like let's say like a wedding
