1
Hello everyone and welcome back to English Cozy Chat,
2
a slow English podcast which helps you to learn English in a fun and natural way.
3
I am Maria and today we are going to talk about
4
10 things that I love about summer
5
and these things are not all the typical things that people love about summer so you might find some of them Interesting.
6
So the first thing that I really love about summer is not traveling, it is staying home.
7
Don't get me wrong, I like to travel and to see new places,
8
but I personally really like being home when everyone else is traveling.
9
I like it when my town is more quiet and more people are gone.
10
I find this really so relaxing and calming.
11
And I really like being here during the summer when a lot of people are gone.
12
Last year, actually, me and my family traveled a lot over the summer, and to be honest, I was just exhausted.
13
I was really tired and tired.
14
I felt like every time we came home, we would unpack, be home for a few days,
15
and then pack again and go somewhere else.
16
And while it was fun to go to these different places, I really didn't feel relaxed.
17
I just found it kind of tiring.
18
So this year we have decided to do much Less over the summer and just stay home more.
19
We are going to go camping later this summer,
20
but until then we are just going to stay home and try to relax more over the summer.
21
Another thing that I love about the summer is being barefoot.
22
I don't like wearing shoes.
23
And I love the feeling of the grass on my feet or just being...
24
barefoot in my house.
25
I like being able to go outside, walk around barefoot, and just feel a bit more free.
26
I just love the way that feels.
27
The third thing that I love about summer is slowing down.
28
Now I am a teacher so I do have my summers off
29
which is nice but even when I used to work in an office year round,
30
Over the summer, I really liked how things in the summer just seemed a bit more slow.
31
I think it's good to have one time of the year where you really try to slow down and do less.
32
For me personally, I don't set a lot of personal goals
33
or put pressure on myself to do certain things during the summer
34
because I would rather focus on things that I want to do.
35
This summer, for example, I want to read more books and start a new hobby,
36
which I will be telling you guys about in another episode.
37
And I feel like when I slow down during the summer,
38
It really makes me feel energized when September comes and it's time to start working and start new things again.
39
It always feels like that after having a break.
40
I feel refreshed, I feel energized, and it just feels good to come back with the more energy and motivation.
41
The fourth thing that I love about summer is eating outside.
42
I absolutely love to eat outside.
43
I truly feel like food tastes better when you are eating it outdoors.
44
I love to feel the fresh air and to just be in a different environment when I eat.
45
I feel like Most of the time in life, we're always eating...
46
inside and I really like to take advantage of the summer to go outside and eat.
47
I also really like cooking outside.
48
We currently don't have a barbecue, but I do love to eat barbecued food and to cook outside,
49
but I I guess that is something that I will be doing a lot of when we go camping.
50
So yes, I eat outside every chance that I can in the summer.
51
The fifth thing that I love about summer is the light clothing.
52
I love wearing easy, light clothes during the summer.
53
For me, it just feels so comfortable and nice.
54
And I also feel like, especially during the summer, I always wear the same clothes.
55
I have my favorite clothes, clothes that I wear and I wear those clothes.
56
almost every day.
57
I'm not afraid to admit that. But.
58
It's also something that I like, just the simplicity of wearing your favorite light clothes in the summer.
59
When it's cold, there are so many things you have to wear.
60
pants, a long sleeve shirt, a jacket, sometimes a hat, scarf, gloves.
61
And in the summer, everything is just much lighter and easier because it's hot outside.
62
The sixth thing that I love about summer are the long days.
63
Here in Spain the days are really really long.
64
The sunrise is around 6 :45 or 7 :00 a .m.
65
I think.
66
And the sunset is around 9 :30 p .m.
67
And it still stays pretty light outside until about 10 :00 or 10 :30.
68
So I love having this really long day.
69
Because you just have more day to do things.
70
In the winter, I do feel like it feels a bit more rushed because The sun goes down so soon, and once it's dark outside,
71
I just feel like I need to get ready for bed.
72
Hey baby, you can watch me.
73
You can watch me if you want.
74
You want to stand there and watch me?
75
Oh wait I teach them just by talking like this I'm sorry for the
76
It's my microphone.
77
Okay.
78
I have to keep talking.
79
Okay?
80
I Now, the seventh thing
81
that i love about summer is the fresh summer food i absolutely love i would say especially the fruit I love.
82
Fresh cold watermelon and melon and peaches and things like that.
83
For me, every time on a hot day that I eat cold, fresh watermelon or melon.
84
her.
85
any kind of fruit, I always think about how it is called nature's candy.
86
Because for me, I would rather eat fresh fruit on a hot day any day over candy.
87
I just think that fresh fruit can taste so, so, so...
88
delicious and i think why is there even a need for candy when fresh fruit like this is available.
89
Now on that note, the eighth thing that I love about summer is specific to Spain and it is gazpacho.
90
Gazpacho is a cold tomato soup which is served in the summer.
91
And I know That sounds kind of gross and it doesn't.
92
Sound good?
93
But trust me, it is so… refreshing.
94
I'm not sure of everything that it has in it, I think it has some onion, maybe a little bit.
95
or maybe not, maybe no onion.
96
garlic.
97
cucumber some pepper, like red or green pepper, olive oil.
98
and some bread.
99
You guys, gazpacho is so delicious.
100
I, drink so much of it during the summer.
101
You can either eat it out of a bowl, or you can drink it out of a cup.
102
And at my house, we drink so much of it during the summer and It just always tastes so refreshing.
103
Now, the ninth thing that I love about summer are the summer evenings.
104
For me, the best part of the day in the summer is once the sun has gone down, but it's still...
105
warm outside. but not...
106
too hot.
107
For me, that is the best time of day to be outside.
108
It always just feels so calm and relaxing because in Spain,
109
during the summer, The days can get quite hot.
110
They can get very, very hot actually.
111
Why are you clapping about food?
112
Now for the last thing that I love about summer, I'm going to ask my kid who is sitting right up there.
113
What is your favorite thing about summer?
114
Bye.
115
- A tooth.
116
- Of anything.
117
Sure.
118
Ciao!
119
my kid says that Their favorite thing about summer is chocolate.
120
That's not really related to summer, but apparently that is what they like the most.
121
So that is it, guys.
122
Please let me know what are your favorite things about the summer and what are you doing this summer that is fun.
123

  • Try to incorporate the key vocabulary into your own sentences about summer. This exercise will help solidify your understanding and allow you to express similar ideas in conversations.
  • If possible, practice this with a partner, sharing your thoughts on summer while shadowing key phrases. Doing so expands your learning through collaborative efforts.

Using shadowspeak with this engaging content not only helps to learn English with YouTube but also makes your practice sessions enjoyable and relatable. As you slow down and immerse yourself in the language, you will find yourself improving steadily and confidently.

What is the Shadowing Technique?

Shadowing is a science-backed language learning technique originally developed for professional interpreter training and popularized by polyglot Dr. Alexander Arguelles. The method is simple but powerful: you listen to native English audio and immediately repeat it out loud — like a shadow following the speaker with just a 1–2 second delay. Unlike passive listening or grammar drills, shadowing forces your brain and mouth muscles to simultaneously process and reproduce real speech patterns. Research shows it significantly improves pronunciation accuracy, intonation, rhythm, connected speech, listening comprehension, and speaking fluency — making it one of the most effective methods for IELTS Speaking preparation and real-world English communication.
