Shadowing Practice: I’ve Been Tracking My Habits Wrong (what I’m changing in 2026) - Learn English Speaking with Video

1
In 2026, I'm changing the way I track my habits.
2
You might know my habit tracker from last year.
3
Simple, satisfying, useful.
4
Takes 10 minutes to set up.
5
This thing reached people all across the entire world.
6
It changed people's lives and it changed my life.
7
But after 400 plus days of using this method, I realized I was doing something fundamentally wrong.
8
Well, let me explain.
9
If we take a look back at 2025, it looks good.
10
I mean, really good.
11
100km ultra marathon, $110,000 raised for cancer research.
12
I worked overseas, built a run club, moved out for a bit.
13
I track my habits every single day of the year.
14
The relentless consistency, the accolades, they sound sexy to say, and I was putting in the work.
15
But now, for some reason, I have this feeling inside of me that I don't know if doing more is the route I want to take.
16
It's hard to sit here after receiving all the positive feedback
17
and the impact I've had on people and admit that it's time to change.
18
But as I look back at the closing months of the year, I realized I was just chucking in habits for the sake of habit tracking.
19
I wasn't intentional about change, about becoming the person that I wanted to be, about going deeper.
20
So in my 2026 habit tracker, I actually made this book.
21
I've decided to hyper focus on one habit every single month.
22
One of my intentions for this year is not doing more things, but doing more of the right things.
23
Because the whole reason I started tracking my habits a year ago was to design my life around an identity
24
that I wanted to embody.
25
And now, finally, I'm asking myself, who do I want to be?
26
What habits does that person do every day?
27
And as a result, I'm able to live that lifestyle of the person I want to be.
28
So in this video, I'm walking you through how exactly I'm going to be tracking my habits this year.
29
The setup, the strategy, the whole life.
30
Let's get into it.
31
Welcome to my new journal.
32
We'll just run through the outside really quickly.
33
We've got the sanctuary logo debossed in.
34
Beautiful stitching around the edges and a nice little quote on the back.
35
Take the time to design your life today through intentionality and consistency.
36
We choose who we become.
37
All right, so I have started this month.
38
As you can see, we're about halfway through January.
39
That's what I'm looking like right now.
40
Let me break this all down for you.
41
But first, I'm going to run you through a few exercises
42
that I have in my journal to get you started into 2026.
43
There's going to be timestamps on the video below.
44
So just skip past this bit.
45
If this doesn't apply to you, you just want to get straight into the habit tracking.
46
We start off with the eulogy.
47
I've written mine out.
48
I find this to be a really, really cool activity.
49
It makes me think about my legacy, what I want to leave behind in this world.
50
I've written it all down on the left side here.
51
A few prompts like, what were your core values?
52
What did your family look like?
53
What was your job?
54
How'd you show up every day?
55
Just answer these questions in a paragraph format.
56
This follows on to the next activity, which is looking at the trends of your eulogy.
57
When you're talking about yourself from the perspective of your dead, this is really easy to pick apart, like the good pieces that you want from your life.
58
Some examples from me are passion, enthusiasm, and curiosity.
59
Things like that you can write down, expand upon.
60
These are just activities that you have to get really vulnerable with, very honest.
61
They're really good.
62
Turning the page, instead of looking at all the positives that you want going into 2026, I've put in some limiting beliefs.
63
Now, I thought I didn't have a lot of limiting beliefs.
64
I'm quite delusional with what I can do.
65
One limiting belief for me is it could all crumble apart through my fingertips, everything I've built.
66
Just be honest with yourself.
67
It's hard.
68
It might take a bit of time to realize, holy shit, I've been thinking about this over and over.
69
Why is that a limit for myself?
70
So with your priorities, I've sectioned them into four different categories.
71
If you want to, you can change these.
72
I feel like a lot of them interlink a little bit.
73
So you've got like learning and then also you work, like you've learned through your work as well.
74
This is sort of where it is, like these solid ones.
75
And then these dotted lines is where I would like them to be.
76
And then the last page, I just got five vulnerable questions that are just hard hitting.
77
And I love to ask myself at a really transitional time in my life.
78
I feel like going into the new year, everyone's feeling a bit transitional.
79
And then some 2026 goals.
80
And then I've also written down my anti-goals, which is a really good practice to get into.
81
Things that you don't want to give up.
82
For me, quality time with people I love, not chasing what others want, creating what I want to make.
83
I'm not gonna give those things up.
84
That's gonna allow me to go even deeper into these goals.
85
Other than that, that's it.
86
This is how you can set up my habit tracker, which I'm gonna show you.
87
And also just as a final exercise, this was inspired by my girlfriend.
88
It's a letter to your future self.
89
Mine is quite personal.
90
I'm not meant to be opening this, but for the sake of the video, this will be the last time I open it.
91
I've given myself 50 bucks because I never really treat myself.
92
Go buy yourself something nice since you never do.
93
You deserve it.
94
What a f*ing year.
95
what a year to come there's something about this year
96
that just feels it feels on like donkey kong
97
and also an extra activity that i didn't add in is a vision board
98
so putting down almost your goals into visual formats more collaging i love to collage i am the cut
99
and paste king let's get into how i'm tracking my habits i spoke a lot about intentionality
100
and this method is intentional Still, as you can see, nothing has really changed too much.
101
There's just more graphs.
102
This is October of last year.
103
You can see just how many habits I was tracking here.
104
And then what do we've got?
105
We've got habits, habit points.
106
And then how do you feel?
107
It was very focused on the quantity side of habits rather than the quality side of habits.
108
That's the biggest change I'm making this year.
109
So what I'm going to be doing is memorable moments slash a winning streak.
110
So writing down one thing every single day and then moving on to doing
111
Ticking off my baseline habits my non-negotiables that if I do every single day
112
Will impact myself in a positive way without taking away too
113
much time I'm gonna be focusing on just one habit for the rest of of this spread.
114
So this month I'm focusing on reading,
115
reading 30 pages a day and therefore I have created sort of this system to really focus in on what that means.
116
30 pages a day at the very top here.
117
Underneath I've got a new book and then I've got a daily quote tally as well.
118
And then these three graphs give me an indication of how this is actually making me feel in my life.
119
So we've got pages read here and then underneath that we've got mood and stress.
120
And because I only read 30 pages, how did this affect my mood?
121
How did this affect my stress levels?
122
It seems overwhelming, but it's actually very, very simple when practiced.
123
And let me show you exactly how I'm going to set this up.
124
I'm just going to take you to the back of my book, which by the way, God damn, this book is so nice.
125
So now that we've got our page ready, all that we're going to need is a multicolored pen.
126
Helps with different graphs, different colors, and a ruler to help you get that straight line.
127
And obviously, you're going to want a gridded book.
128
Gridded is a must.
129
It's a non-negotiable, people.
130
Like, come on.
131
First of all, month down, January.
132
So you've got your days along the side, your memorable moments sitting above.
133
I'm going to use this to write a single memorable thing.
134
One line, super easy, takes one second.
135
You just got to think back to your day prior.
136
People get really confused when I do this.
137
I write down a memorable moment the morning after the day happens.
138
You can also do this at night.
139
That's also a good option.
140
I recommend this to be the first thing or the last thing that you do in your day.
141
Let's rule up the second page.
142
Now this is very important.
143
That's why I'm gonna lock in.
144
Woo!
145
It was quite annoying with this big, fluffy thing in my face.
146
We'll manage though.
147
So along here, this is where your habits are gonna go.
148
And now, the change is this month, I'm gonna minimize as many habits as I can.
149
Now obviously, I still wanna track the things
150
that I know are non-negotiable in my life
151
that I could easily slip off exercise creatine speak to stranger
152
bang there you go that's all you need keep this as minimal as possible
153
because what comes after here is much more important the big change is actually implementing more graphs here let's say
154
that you want to track you want to get off social media next month gain time all right lovely
155
so this is going to be screen time all right so those those are all the graphs set up.
156
We've got screen time, phone pickups, and deep work.
157
So this is actually looking really, really good.
158
I'm going to add a few things.
159
So you could have doom scrolling at the very end here.
160
And that could be almost your pillar habit.
161
But anyways, I don't want to tick doom scrolling.
162
If the whole thing is about getting off social media.
163
And I just want to focus on how my screen time
164
and my phone pickups affect my deep work
165
So I guess I'm treating this almost as like more of
166
a science experiment now Keeping one variable the same not using your phone not doom scrolling
167
and seeing how that affects these three graphs Now let's go through a morning.
168
It's not actually as hard as it seems
169
So let's say it's the 4th of January gonna look back onto the 4th and say God
170
What a day the fourth was oh my god.
171
I remember I remember I went on a surfing trip and I Rode a shark.
172
That's your memorable moment.
173
That's a win riding a shark.
174
Are you kidding me?
175
Surfing that counts as a bit of exercise.
176
We'll chuck that down I did have my creatine in the morning and spoke to someone out in the water.
177
It's a good chat I'm gonna look back into my phone
178
because I was out in the water all day and an hour Hour 27.
179
You should jot that in.
180
Hour and a half.
181
Phone pickups.
182
37. And then deep work because I was out on the surf all day.
183
I did not work.
184
So we're going to put that down as zero.
185
Doom scrolling.
186
I didn't.
187
I didn't.
188
I was living because that's what I wanted to do.
189
Get off socials.
190
Enjoy the world.
191
Go for a surf.
192
Ladies and gentlemen, that's my habit tracker.
193
I don't want life to just be one big optimization
194
that I have to do this and then do that
195
and then do this and by the time I'm freaking I'm exhausted from doing good habits
196
that will give me longevity but won't give me a freaking stress-free life that I enjoy.
197
I'm dialing in in 2026 Maybe you should too
198
if you want to know how I journal in these pages
199
and what I'm writing and all the rest of it I'll leave a link to another video
200
that I just released on my journaling system And if you're still here, you're telling me something about yourself.
201
I can read into the type of person you are.
202
And you want change this year.
203
You're interested in learning a bit more about yourself.
204
I salute you.
205
I salute you.
206
I say, good luck.
207
We're going to do something incredible.
208
We are.
209
I'm so excited for you.
210
I'm so excited for this year.
211
Track your habits.
212
But most of all, be intentional about where you want to go.
213
The life you want to live, design it.
214
Because it's well within your capabilities.
215
Goddamn.
216
Thank you so much for watching.
217
Goodbye.
