I don't know if you can guess what we're about to do today.
2
Woohoo!
3
Pizza test!
4
Very excited.
5
It's gonna be...
6
Lots of fun, so let me get you set up.
7
Do you have a...
8
Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh no. This is not happening the way it needs to happen.
9
Ish.
10
Eh!
11
Come here, you little tomato.
12
- Welcome to another episode of What's in My Kitchen presented by Hexclad.
13
Today we're going to be doing pizza toast.
14
And I just want to start off by saying that I am very aware that I'm not the first
15
person to ever put pizza toppings or ingredients onto a piece of toast.
16
But I just want to give my backstory on how I came to this little recipe.
17
I was at home one day. And I was high.
18
because I smoked weed, which disclaimer, is legal in the state of California. So.
19
I can do that.
20
And I got really hungry, really needed a snack.
21
So turns out I had tomato sauce in my cabinet, Tomatoes.
22
sourdough bread.
23
I had some truffle oil and I had some Parmesan and mozzarella in the fridge.
24
So I thought, hmm, what would sound so good right now?
25
Pizza.
26
Let me just.. throw together my little version of pizza, on a piece of sourdough bread and see how it tastes.
27
And it turned out so delicious and amazing, so then I just stuck with that way of doing it.
28
There's a couple little added things, little twists.
29
So I'm going to show you step by step how I do my version of pizza toast.
30
Before I get into the toast, the bread, I'm first going to prep my tomatoes because I like to kind of marinate the tomatoes a little bit.
31
I actually make this snack all the time where I just do sliced tomatoes, I do lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, and I literally just eat them like that.
32
Super delicious.
33
So I'm gonna slice my tomatoes first.
34
And this is my Beautiful favorite hex clad board and my hex clad knife.
35
And I'm gonna...
36
slice the day away.
37
Thank you.
38
Now, I'm only making two pieces of toast just for the sake of time and efficiency, so I don't need that many tomatoes,
39
but maybe I'll just slice some extra so everybody here can have a taste.
40
Okay, so sliced tomatoes.
41
Now, I'm just finding the right lemon.
42
I'm going to go.
43
- Bye.
44
I really love this little Dish.
45
- Bye.
46
lemon juice Thank you.
47
I like things really kind of pungent and...
48
acidic and sour, so I'm gonna do both.
49
Sides.
50
Okay, so lemon juice.
51
Olive oil.
52
Bye.
53
you Bye.
54
Salt.
55
Pepper.
56
You can also do this with like, balsamic vinegar, or you can do it with regular vinegar, which is also really good,
57
but the lemon is pretty acidic on its own, so.
58
This is what I do, Willem.
59
cooking is I just keep picking.
60
Mmm.
61
It's really so simple and so good.
62
Anywho.
63
The tomatoes are going to just sit in their little sauce.
64
I'm gonna put those to the side.
65
And now I'm gonna get started on the actual toast of it all.
66
So I have two slices of sourdough bread.
67
And what I'm gonna do is I'm going to take some truffle oil, Bye.
68
and Truffle oil is really powerful, so I try to be really careful not to overdo it.
69
So I put it in a spoon and I kind of just like...
70
Well, that's not enough, but drizzle it. on one side.
71
I love the smell of truffle oil.
72
So then I flip it over, do it on the other side,
73
And then I'm going to...
74
butter both sides.
75
pretty generously.
76
without like over, overdoing it, because you already have the truffle oil on there.
77
So you don't want the bread to get like really oily and soggy.
78
Bread is prepped.
79
So I'm gonna just throw it in this, uh, Hex -clad frying pan.
80
- Okay.
81
just to get it crisped. and crunchy.
82
I am someone who like, flipped things with their fingers, which is so stupid, because I've burned myself so many times.
83
But let me try to not.
84
be crazy today.
85
Hear that?
86
Yeah.
87
That's the sizzle you want.
88
And then I just keep flipping it so like I just don't want it to burn so.
89
Just being careful.
90
I like really crispy, crunchy toast.
91
I don't want like soggy, Bread.
92
- Okay.
93
Okay.
94
Thank you.
95
All right, that's looking pretty done.
96
Thank you.
97
This one definitely is.
98
Thank you.
99
I'm just gonna take it off.
100
Now I'm gonna set it aside, 'cause it needs to just cool down a little bit.
101
And in the meantime, I'm going to start Slicing the cheese.
102
So this is regular mozzarella.
103
Oops.
104
And you can use regular mozzarella, you can use Burrata.
105
I'm actually gonna do a little combination of both today.
106
but I'm gonna start with the mozzarella.
107
So the first time I ever made this, I put down the sauce first, like a normal pizza, and then put the cheese on top.
108
What I did realize doing that is...
109
It makes the bread soggy.
110
So what I started doing after was putting the cheese first, letting the cheese get all gooey and bubbly and melty.
111
- Thank you.
112
So slicing up the...
113
"Muzzerrel".
114
-Block.
115
So, take our first piece.
116
Line it up with the moots.
117
Thank you.
118
You got another one in here?
119
Thank you.
120
That felt so gross.
121
- Thank you.
122
Just needed a little bit more.
123
Beautiful.
124
Okay.
125
So that's all good.
126
I'm gonna now put it On here.
127
My convection oven right now is at 355.
128
And I don't really have a time because I just eyeball it.
129
Basically, it's just going in there to melt the cheese fully.
130
I'm gonna take my Carbone roasted garlic sauce.
131
And I'm gonna put it into pot.
132
That's way too much, but maybe I'll make pasta later.
133
Okay, now we just...
134
Wait, maybe eat another tomato?
135
You know, just for good measure.
136
See what I mean about the cheese falls through the cracks?
137
So you kind of just have to...
138
Beware.
139
Smells so good.
140
Now...
141
We continue the prep.
142
Thank you.
143
- Thank you. So, Okay.
144
Tomato sauce.
145
All right.
146
- Thank you.
147
Eyeballing it.
148
Yeah.
149
You gotta be able to eyeball it when you're cooking.
150
All right, so the tomato sauce on top.
151
Just make it.. extra yum, I am going to add just a little bit of Thank you.
152
Burrata on top.
153
but just a teeny bit, 'cause you know, Burrata is a very wet cheese.
154
And like I said, you don't want to like overpower the-- The bread.
155
Very messy.
156
Now what I do is I get my marinated tomatoes, and I kind of just lay them over top.
157
- Thank you.
158
And then right before it goes back in the oven, Big Parmesan girl over here, so...
159
- Thank you.
160
I'm making a mess.
161
I used to cook at home and then leave a mess and my mom would get upset.
162
'Cause she was always the one.
163
Cleaning up after her children.
164
Sorry, Mom.
165
I just really want to get, like, a lot.
166
There we go.
167
- I'm gonna put my extra scraps here that I have into my composter.
168
Thank you.
169
- Bye.
170
- - - Yeah.
171
Just trying to keep my station clean.
172
Bye.
173
You know what I mean?
174
On three, everybody say, "Yes, Chef." One, two, three.
175
Yes, Chef.
176
There you go.
177
Mm -hmm.
178
Looking good.
179
Just gotta wait for that cheese to get Melty.
180
You'll know when the cheese is, like, melted to the way that you want.
181
Oh my God, you guys.
182
I think that looks...
183
Good.
184
It's really like it's bubbling and sizzling.
185
So let's say it's around six minutes to get it all the way melted. So Okay.
186
- Thank you.
187
Thank you.
188
So obviously you have to let it cool down a bit.
189
Thank you.
190
Thank you.
191
Thank you.
192
Bye.
193
I'm going to go.
194
It's a little hot.
195
I'm just trying to prep the perfect bites.
196
Okay.
197
- Thank you.
198
You've got to let it cool down or you're going to definitely burn your mouth.
199
Thank you.
200
I will say my biggest tip, like I said in the beginning,
201
is that You should try to find whichever slices of bread with the least amount of holes and bubbles.
202
Or just use a bread that's not as like, Holy as sourdough, you know?
203
All right, here we go.
204
Thank you.
205
Thank you.
206
Really good.
207
Thank you.
208
- I don't know.
209
- Thank you.
210
- Thank you.
211
Oh, God!
212
Oregano.
213
Thank you.
214
- The President and the President of the United States, and chili flakes.
215
Holy .
216
- I'm sorry.
217
It's really good.
218
Well...
219
I know it's always a great episode when I look around and all the food I made is completely gone.
220
eaten by everybody here on set.
221
Thank you for another great episode.
222

233
Not even stoned, but something I really, really, really enjoy.
234
is literally just eating kimchi out of the jar.
235
- I'm just gonna sit here and stare at it until it's done.
