1
It's been a while since we talked.
2
Like, I mean, really talked.
3
For those of you who don't know me, my name's Isaac.
4
I'm 21.
5
I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
6
And I'm scared to get older.
7
Or at least sometimes.
8
Maybe a lot of times.
9
Let me just explain how I think about life.
10
And I know this is going deep really quick, but look, we ain't got much time.
11
So literally and figuratively, I think of life in this way, right?
12
You're a kid and then you're a teenager and then you're an adult, right?
13
And along the way, you're trying to figure out what is your thing, right?
14
Your purpose, finding meaning in your life.
15
What are the things that you enjoy?
16
What are the things that you're striving towards, your goals, your aspirations, finding success in some way? and so along the way,
17
you know, finding meaning through maybe a spouse or marriage or
18
and kids and all that kind of thing and so you're in this stage of, you know, especially in teens, young adults, you feel like you're in the in -between, right?
19
You know, in high school and when you're a kid, nothing's really too much expected of you, right?
20
Like, it's not a big deal that you don't know what you're doing with your life.
21
You feel like you're lost.
22
Of course you feel like you're lost.
23
If you know what you're doing, then you're the outlier.
24
But as you get older,
25
especially young adulthood, and you feel like you haven't gotten to where you want to be
26
and you're scared you'll never get there.
27
You're scared that you'll wake up one day and you'll be 30
28
and you've never accomplished anything or you'll be 40 and you've never accomplished anything and you've wasted the years you have.
29
What people talk about, you know, what's insane to me.
30
I hate when people do this.
31
I hate it when people say, Oh man, you know, enjoy your, you know, enjoy your twenties.
32
Those are the best years you'll ever have.
33
Or like, those are the best years of your life or, you know, like things like that, because that makes me feel like, well, I'm not happy.
34
I'm struggling.
35
And you're telling me this is the best it's going to get.
36
That's the, that's all you could say. That blows my mind.
37
So I can't believe that.
38
And I can't believe that I can't believe that the summit, that there is a summit, right?
39
We think, at least in my mind, I think I've always wanted to get to a place
40
or a certain specific goal where certain things measure up and they line up.
41
And for at least one moment in time where I have, you know, I'm financially set and I'm relationally set and I'm,
42
you know, emotionally set.
43
And all these things align and then I've made it.
44
I've won.
45
I've done it.
46
I've accomplished what I wanted to do.
47
And I can be at peace.
48
But that doesn't exist.
49
I have to believe it doesn't exist.
50
Everything I watch, every person I talk to that has accomplished what they wanted to accomplish, they're still hungrier.
51
They're still looking for approval.
52
They're still looking for love.
53
They're still looking for meaning.
54
They're still looking for purpose.
55
So cornering myself off into believing
56
that I need to get to a certain place at a certain time
57
and accomplish a certain thing in order for me to be happy or be fulfilled or be
58
be accomplished I think it's a sham I think it's a
59
complete lie along the way my journey over the last two
60
years at least with this ministry I set numerous goals of like stats
61
and and and and all you know amount of followers
62
or subscribers and goals and aspirations I wanted to get to And each time I would pass one of those milestones,
63
I would look back and think back and remember myself before saying, if I could only get here, then I would be satisfied.
64
Then I would be happy.
65
Then I would be fulfilled.
66
But I got to that place, and then all of a sudden that didn't look too hot.
67
Actually, honestly, the fact that I got there was a failure in itself because I should have got there sooner.
68
And that applies to a lot of aspects of my life.
69
I think of, oh, when I get to this spot, then I'll be fulfilled.
70
And then I get there and then I take it as a negative because it took me too long to get there.
71
Because I should be further along than I am.
72
And so you torture yourself because you have these expectations that are...
73
You have expectations, but on top of those expectations is your really life motivation it's connected to
74
that so if your expectations aren't met then your life motivation is just shriveled up.
75
Your meaning, your sense of purpose, your sense of peace is all connected to that.
76
Every day, every day that I don't feel like I've made a dent,
77
like into something more, something meaningful,
78
something that has legacy to it,
79
Every day that I haven't done that, I feel angry.
80
I feel frustrated.
81
I feel discouraged.
82
And so I feel like in some ways, every day I wake up with that motivation to do it,
83
to make it, to tap into that more that God would have for me.
84
But along the way, things pop up.
85
Like my own desire to find love and acceptance from other people and to find identity, right?
86
As long as I find my identity in my productivity,
87
I'll never find peace, right? because I'll never be productive enough to give myself license to let go.
88
Because it will never be enough.
89
It will never be enough.
90
And I think God designed it that way.
91
He designed it that we can wake up early.
92
We can, you know, grind and we can rise and grind or whatever the heck.
93
We can do all that.
94
We can strive.
95
We can even make an impact.
96
But at the end of the day, if our identity is disconnected from the one who created us,
97
we will always be disconnected from who we truly are in Christ.
98
and so as long as I find my identity in in being
99
that kind of person that makes an impact or find
100
that identity in in in being somebody that is is successful
101
or or somebody that is productive or somebody that is smart
102
or or liked or loved as long as I find my identity in
103
that I will always be disconnected from who I truly am and I will never find the peace that passes all understanding.
104
And so what I'm trying to do, and I know this is just a weird big therapy session, I guess, but you need one of those every once in a while.
105
What I'm trying to do, what I'm trying to do is tap into my identity in Christ,
106
step into that, letting go of the pressure to perform in order to gain God's love,
107
but rather as I step into my identity, I want my productivity and my faithfulness to God's work,
108
the work that he's given me to be an outflowing of his love.
109
And I know I've talked about this before.
110
And at certain points in my life, I felt like that was the moment.
111
That's the one I like.
112
I've made it.
113
I get it now.
114
I can do it.
115
Yeah.
116
But then I just go back to where I was before.
117
Same mentality, same mindset, same anxieties and discouragements all fueled by this concept that,
118
that, that I'm not where I'm supposed to be.
119
And that feeds into, you know, every year I feel like I'm running out of time and,
120
and look, I don't want to live this way.
121
I don't think anybody wants to live this way.
122
I love that God, I'm thankful that God has given me a desire for more,
123
for more of him and what he would have for me and, you know, and all that.
124
But I'm also, I need to be aware and I'm, and for those of you who are like this,
125
you need to be aware that you need to fight off the,
126
the things that will steal your joy and things that will take this identity in Christ and they'll pull it,
127
pull it to things that shouldn't be like identity in money, how much you're making, or your status, or how much you're working,
128
or how busy you are.
129
All these things are going to distract you from the point of all this.
130
I could wake up every day and work my butt off for God.
131
But where is my relationship with God?
132
Where is my identity in God?
133
Because it seems like, it seems like sometimes,
134
were the people that Tony Miano gave this example once were the people
135
that or the the young man that goes to the the door of somebody
136
and knocks on the door and you know older guy answers it
137
and and the young man asked
138
if I mow your lawn can I be your son and
139
that sounds crazy guys like no you can't be my son if you just mow my lawn.
140
That doesn't make any sense.
141
But if that, you know, that older guy first adopts that young man as his son,
142
then the outflowing of that will be, could be mowing his father's lawn.
143
And so we're getting this out of order here.
144
We're looking for more.
145
We're looking for purpose.
146
We're looking for identity.
147
We're looking for love, we're looking for these core, like existential, fundamental aspects to our human nature.
148
And yet we abandon the one thing that is free.
149
A love, acceptance, a peace, so glorious as is available to us can only be a gift.
150
We can never earn it.
151
but it's not good enough for us.
152
We, we, we want to earn it.
153
We want to work for it.
154
We want to find it in other things, but it always leaves us empty.
155
It always leaves us discouraged.
156
It always leaves us asking, is this all there is?
157
When you've got to the peak of where you wanted to go, when you've accomplished the things you wanted to accomplish, will it be enough for you?
158
If If you're scared of getting older, my question for you would be, where is your foundation?
159
Is it in God's sovereignty over your life?
160
Or is it in your own self -reliance on doing enough,
161
earning enough, succeeding enough, achieving enough to gain God's love, to gain other people's love, to gain meaning,
162
to gain purpose? us where is your foundation that's pretty much
163
all I have to say I know this is kind of weird video
164
if you sat through the whole thing thanks I love you guys I really do
165
and I really am thankful for a platform
166
that I can just get on
167
and talk I mean yeah we're all working we're all trying
168
to figure this out you know it takes it takes time takes a lifetime
169
and the more honest
170
and open we can be about what we're going through about what we're feeling especially with the people around us
171
that can only be beneficial it can only be beneficial thanks for watching guys i'll see you next time god bless

Maybe a lot of times.”這樣的短句展現情緒層次;二是流暢反駁他人觀點,像“I hate when people do this. I hate it when people say...”

影片裡有不少典型的連讀和弱讀,比如:“It's been a while since we talked”中“since we”連讀成/sɪns wiː/;“you're a kid and then you're a teenager”裡“and then”弱讀為/ən ðɛn/;“I can't believe that”中“can't”弱讀成/kænt/(美音常發成/kɑːnt/)。

比如 speaker 在說“that makes me feel like, well, I'm not happy. I'm struggling.”時,“well”和“not happy”“struggling”用了升調,突出情緒的轉折;而“Everything I watch, every person I talk to”則通過重複結構和重音“Everything”“every person”增強表達力度。

It's been · haven't gotten · you've never accomplished
被動語態 be + 過去分詞 — 強調發生了什麼,而不是誰做的be fulfilled · be accomplished · would be fulfilled
最高階 the -est / the most …
用 “should” 提建議 should + 動詞 — 表示應該做的事should have · should be
