So Tonawari assigned Ao Noong and his sister Sirea to teach the Sully children their ways

and instruct them on how to adapt to the reef.

and leave Luwak in the middle of the ocean because when they finish traveling over to three brothers, Lawak refers to Ao Noong as Cuz.

Really putting the Ao in Aonung, the Reefbird Talon, is a huge contrast to the necklace that his father's wearing,

as Tonawari is rocking this necklace with the tooth of an akula, a much deadlier predator.

The contrast is there to further represent how Aonung is young and naive, and has a long way to go in terms of growing up and taking on responsibility.

Aonung's lack of maturity and unwillingness to do simple things like helping out the Sullis, explains why Sirea is on her way to become the next Sahik,

while Aonung is on his way to become a further disappointment.

But seriously, Aonung is not on his way to replace his father as the next Oluwikdan.

Maybe it's because Tonawari has very high standards for the next clan leader, and if that's the case, that must be really rough on Aonung.

It would definitely explain why he has to put down every other Na'vi around him like the Sully's, feeling like he has some sense of power and control by making everyone else miserable.

But he definitely doesn't know how to be a tough guy, as he's only willing to be mean when his sister is not paying attention, or when warriors like Neteum have their backs turned to him.

Look, I know I often refer to Ao Nung as a professional disappointment, which he is, but he's really good at other stuff.

Like, he's actually a remarkable hunter who's quite proficient at using the spear gun or his blade made from a skimwing's jawbone.

And like Tonawari, or Inal, or any other sensible Na'vi, Ao Nung respects the golden rule of all known Na'vi clans,

which is to only take what you need from the environment and to not waste anything.

Being such a good hunter, Ao Nung has earned the respect of his peers, explaining why he's the leader of this frightening group of youths that you see throughout the Way of Water.

I don't know, maybe if Aonung stops being such a menace, he'll be able to prove that he's capable of so much more.

And to be fair, I think he's on track of becoming a better Na'vi, but don't get me wrong, I mean, he has a ways to go.

Like his sister, Aonung has not gone through Ikni Maya, and is not considered a warrior, so he has absolutely no tattoos on him.

He's currently at the stage where he works with his Ilu to deter any predators from

and going near defenseless Ilu ponies or younger members of the Mechaina.

And when he's not doing that, he's actually spending most of his time going plunge diving in these underwater tunnels below the seawall, doing this during the changing of the tides.

Aonung Songkord is riddled with these trinkets like teeth from his ilu when it was a pony.

And these black bead looking things over here are apparently from underneath Tonawari's canoe.

To me, these trinkets are indicative of how much Aonung looks up to his father

and how much he wants to be like his father, especially with the teeth from the ilu pony.

Tonawari incorporated the teeth of aculas into his wardrobe.

And what's happening here is that Aonung is trying to emulate that look in the best way he possibly can.

It's safe to say that Aonung and Tonawari have a similar dynamic as Lawak and Jake.

So after the three brothers incident when Lawak took the blame for everything, Aonung got in less trouble, and Lawak and Aonung were pretty okay after that point.

that they both understood they were disappointments left in the shadows of their more capable siblings.

So they found this mutual understanding, and Aonung suddenly got better.
