1
So, hello.
2
Can you tell me your name, please?
3
My name is Jumyung, Jumyungnam, and my English name is Jude.
4
Okay.
5
So, as you know, the IELTS test has, the speaking test has three different sections.
6
So, the first section is just some, like, questions about yourself.
7
The second part, you will get a prompt, and you will get one minute to prepare your response.
8
you can speak for up to two minutes, okay?
9
If you go over two minutes, I will have to stop you.
10
Okay.
11
Okay, and then part three is kind of just some general questions, okay?
12
Okay.
13
Okay, so let's get started.
14
When was the last time you had a few days off?
15
Oh, I'm already taking many days off as I graduated my grad school a few weeks ago,
16
and the last time actually I took a day off
17
while I was working is was I think it was about two years ago
18
and it was before I quit the job
19
and I had to use all use up all my vacations okay
20
so what do you usually do when you have days off?
21
Oh, I try to make an appointment with many social groups as much as possible
22
and I just generally enjoy going to events,
23
conferences, parties or any events that involve social activities.
24
And would you usually spend your days off with your parents or with your friends?
25
I would prefer to spend my time with my friends more than my parents
26
because I'm already living with my parents and I think spending time with my friends is more valuable as it's
27
is less accessible to me.
28
Okay and what would you like to do
29
if you had a day off tomorrow which you said you're taking some days off?
30
Oh basically asking me what I would do tomorrow is I have actually a conference tomorrow.
31
I'm attending a networking event related to my major that I graduated a few weeks ago.
32
What was your major?
33
It's called FinTech.
34
Financial technology is basically finance with the elements of IT technologies.
35
Okay, very good.
36
So you are going to a financial technology conference tomorrow?
37
Yes.
38
Okay so now we are on to part two.
39
So you will need to prepare something about an important decision that you made.
40
You will have one minute to prepare your response starting now.
41
Okay your one minute of prep time is up.
42
You will have two minutes to describe an important decision
43
that you made so before I was I am here right now
44
and I was in school in the United States I was I actually got accepted to a university in California
45
and the reason I was there is
46
because I I had to well obviously I had to apply for for universities
47
and I could have gone to korean universities but i chose u .s university over korean university because
48
at that time i wasn't sure if i wanted to go uh
49
or wanted to take a you know a step out of korea and
50
then suddenly it came to my mind
51
that i i really want to experience something new other than what I've already experienced
52
and it actually changed my personality because back then I was more of a
53
more reserved and I wasn't ready to experience the world I mean I just hated the fact
54
that I just when I see someone
55
that I'm not used to it just made me feel uncomfortable
56
and I'm just I was more of an indoor person
57
and just thought oh maybe i should you know challenge myself and try to uh
58
take a leap of faith
59
and uh it was it's uh it was it was not
60
a good i mean not not an easy decision it was many pros and cons
61
and i i like to think is a decision to go
62
abroad was probably the best decision in my life okay very
63
good thank you very much you spoke for almost a full two minutes
64
so good job there one minute and 40 seconds very very good okay
65
so we're going to continue with some questions about decision making now
66
so do you think that children sometimes need to make important decisions.
67
Yes.
68
And also, no, I think it depends on how serious the issue is.
69
I think children definitely need to make, definitely have to develop a skill for decision -making.
70
And I think it can be very important in the future for them.
71
But it also follows some risk element that is that
72
if the decision that they're making is about to be like risky in a way
73
that it can affect their future and their life in general
74
and then I think they should get some help with their decision making
75
but then in the future they will also have to be responsible for themselves
76
and that in order to get be responsible
77
and have some kind of skill in decision making they should definitely try out
78
and some part of their life okay
79
and what important decisions do teenagers need to make after graduation
80
oh after graduating high school yes high school then they will
81
first well in Korea there's not much of a choice because they're going to university anyway
82
but I also think there should be some options
83
that there are other something else than going to university
84
or they can start working right away or they can try traveling abroad
85
and see the new things that they've never seen before.
86
Okay and who can children turn to for help when making a decision?
87
Well their parents or their guardians or possibly their teachers,
88
maybe high school teachers or mentors in general who have better experience,
89
far more experience than they are okay and do you think advertisements can influence our decisions when shopping oh definitely
90
it affects advertising involves some part of sales and marketing
91
which is designed to affect the buyer's mentality and the and
92
which will make them want to do this or not want to do this And especially for children,
93
it will affect bigger than the adults.
94
And do you think the influence of advertising is good?
95
I think it's harmless.
96
Some people think, some people don't like the fact that they are being, they feel like they're being like hypnotized or brainwashed,
97
but I don't think it is that serious of an issue
98
and in general advertisements can be a good source of information
99
and it is a basically giving them opportunity to advertise themselves I mean more promote themselves
100
and I think it's a good thing that the the corporates
101
or any organizations can have opportunity to advertise that what they are selling
102
or um their uh the products okay very good
103
and now our final question how do people usually make an important decision oh um in general
104
and other people um i think it's uh there are two um ways people can make decision is
105
that when it first one is using well thinking with intuition
106
and you know it's more like more of a gut feeling
107
that they feel like oh this is a this is what it must be done
108
or this is what I should be doing
109
or they can probably also use their experience past experiences
110
and they could probably think like oh i've done this before
111
and it worked and or it doesn't work therefore i should
112
or should not be doing this i think that's a mainly
113
two ways of making decisions for just in general okay
114
so thank you very much the test is over now and now we are going to get into the feedback.
115
So there's four different sections that the IELTS test is judged on.
116
It's like fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary.
117
And you really did extremely well in all of those.
118
Your fluency was great.
119
Your pronunciation was excellent.
120
And there was like a small few like grammatical things.
121
before i am here so before i came back here it would be a little bit more like natural sounding
122
the corporates instead of the corporations so just using the incorrect part of speech
123
but there were very very few errors so you did a really good job
124
and you used a lot of idiomatic expressions correctly so for example in your last answer you used got feeling perfectly
125
so you did really really well um the first section the answers were a little bit short
126
but they were maybe not like the perfect questions to get right now um okay yeah
127
because you said um like you're taking a lot of days off right now
128
so maybe it was a bit like um difficult to think about like oh um you know um
129
so yeah that was like a little bit short
130
but that's that's okay your extended response was very good
131
and your part 3 answers were very well developed and very well structured.
132
So I would give you a band 9 score in the IELTS test.
133
Oh thank you.
134
You're very welcome.
135
So thank you for coming today and very well done.
136
Thank you very much.
