Thank you so much for joining us today.

Hi, Angela.
3
I'm so glad that you've decided to take a language class.
4
It is so wonderful enriching your life by learning a new language or any skill, really.
5
My advice for how to get ready for this class
6
and really how to thrive would be to first of all take your time
7
and be patient with yourself there's no one correct way to learn a new skill
8
and some people learn faster than others and that's absolutely fine
9
so i really hope that you're patient with yourself another thing
10
that i would really recommend is trying to get into mandarin
11
art forms outside of the class itself in a perfect world everyone would have a language learning partner
12
that they could speak with and that really would be brilliant
13
but if that's not an option for you I think it would be
14
so helpful if you began perhaps listening to songs in Mandarin
15
or watching movies in Mandarin reading books a little tricky
16
but still brilliant reading books in Mandarin anything that you can do like
17
that I think would be incredibly helpful and the last thing that I would recommend is really making a study routine.
18
This I think applies to any type of learning or really anything you're trying to form a habit in,
19
but setting aside time every single day at preferably the same
20
time every day is really going to help solidify the routine of language learning in your life.

Who Is This Video For?

This video is a goldmine for intermediate English learners prepping for speaking tasks—especially those targeting exams like CELPIP—or anyone aiming to refine their conversational skills. It’s ideal for learners who want to move beyond basic phrases and adopt natural, confident communication. Whether you’re using it for english speaking practice or to build a daily study routine, the practical advice and conversational flow make it perfect for learning english with videos.

Words & Idioms Worth Stealing

The dialogue is packed with standout phrases that elevate speech. "Enriching your life" (adding value or joy) is a warm, versatile expression for discussing personal growth. "Thrive" (succeed and grow) replaces overused words like "do well" and sounds more dynamic. "Solidify the routine" (make a habit firm and consistent) is a precise way to talk about building habits—essential for language learners. These phrases are easy to integrate into daily speech and will make your English sound more natural.

How to Get the Accent Right

To mimic the speaker’s clear, approachable tone, focus on two key areas: rhythm and stress. The speaker uses a relaxed pace, pausing slightly after key points (e.g., "take your time" and "be patient"). Practice shadowing—repeating the dialogue aloud immediately after the speaker—to match this rhythm. For stress, emphasize words like "incredibly," "really," and "absolutely" to convey emphasis, just as the speaker does. Tools like a shadowing app can help refine this: record yourself and compare it to the video to spot differences. Techniques like shadow speak (or shadowspeak) train your mouth and brain to sync with native patterns, making your accent more authentic. Consistency is key—even 10 minutes daily with this video will boost your fluency.
