  • Choose short segments: Focus on small sections of the speech, ideally one to two sentences at a time. This will help you capture the nuances of the shadow speech.
  • Match the speed: Start by listening carefully to Selena’s delivery. Initially, you may need to slow down the video’s playback speed to fully grasp her tone and pacing.
  • Pause and repeat: After listening to a phrase, pause the video and repeat it. Ensure you are imitating her emotional emphasis, especially when she conveys the importance of trusting oneself.
  • Record yourself: Use your device to record your shadowing attempts. Listen to your recordings to identify areas for improvement, which is especially helpful for students preparing for IELTS speaking practice.
  • Engage with the content: After shadowing, write a few sentences reflecting on what you learned about trusting yourself and overcoming criticism. This will deepen your understanding and help reinforce new vocabulary.

Utilizing online shadowing sites can also provide a structured environment for practicing these techniques effectively. By incorporating these strategies, you will become more confident and skilled in your English speaking abilities.
