The biggest difference between people that thrive and people that fail on social media is hooks.

You could have the best video in the world, but if the start is boring, nobody's going to watch it.

I've spent 15,000 hours analyzing what works.

And from all this research, my team and I have created a five-step process to craft the perfect hook

that will keep your audience glued to the screen.

The first step is to use the generalist principle.

Now, A lot of creators try to focus on a very small group.

For example, graphic designers making tutorials for other designers.

Or real estate agents creating content for people in a very specific zip code.

The problem is when you do that, you cut yourself off from most of the people who might have watched.

Now, if you want your content to spread, you need to do the opposite.

Imagine your viewer knows nothing about you or your topic.

If you can make it clear and interesting for them, you'll have a higher chance of going viral.

Now, this doesn't mean you stop talking about your subject or completely change who you are.

It just means that you open up the door wide enough for anyone to step in.

Once they're inside, you can share all of your details and expertise.

Attention spans, they're short.

If people don't instantly see something that is interesting, well, they're just going to move on.

And relatability beats expertise.

People share what they understand, what feels universal, not what feels technical.

At its core, the generalist principle is about accessibility.

You treat your audience as if they're brand new to the subject.

So here's how to apply it.

Number one, reframe your hook.

Show how your topic connects to everyday life or a problem that anyone can understand.

For example, in a video by Tanner Leatherstein, he doesn't use technical jargon of the leather industry.

He asks you one simple question.

Is it worth it?

This is a curiosity that most people, including those outside of his niche, will be interested in.

Which brings me to number two.

Keep it simple.

Use plain language and explain new ideas in under 10 words.

Tanner sums up his entire concept in just four.

Number three, start Start broad and go deep later.

Hook with universal conflict first and then bring in your expertise once they're engaged.

Tanner introduces the idea to the audience, then hones in on his knowledge about leather.

Virality is a numbers game.

The aim is to get as many eyes on your brand as possible.

But you will ultimately fail if you don't master step two.

Stop the scroll.

Have you ever seen someone scrolling on TikTok?

Audiences are brutal.

If they're not interested in the first three seconds, they just simply move on to something else.

Now, this is going to be the shortest pitch that you're ever gonna deliver.

And in those first three seconds, you have to answer two basic questions.

Number one, what is it about?

And number two, why does it matter to me?

Now this might seem obvious, but most businesses treat their social media like it's their website.

They post what essentially is an ad about their product without thinking about the true purpose of social media.

You need to think about what is the other person on

the other side of the screen going to get out of this?

And why the fuck should anyone care about what you're going to post?

Now here are three rules to follow for the first few seconds of any content or post.

Rule number one, make the payoff visual too.

Now the reality is 75% of people watch with no sound.

On-screen text becomes your safety net.

So you need to include three to five words that set up a clear promise.

Now, you can do this with movement, interesting visuals, and props, but text is easiest to implement.

Rule 2, be crystal clear on what the audience gets from this.

In half a glance, people need to know why they should care.

For example, how to save 5 hours a week using this one free AI tool.

Rule number 3, kill your darlings.

Attention bleeds with every extra word.

If your opening line is longer than 10 words or 10 seconds, well, you have to cut it down.

But first, you're going to want to check out the next step because after they're hooked, most people think it ends there.

But really, you're going to have to hook them again.

That is why step 3 is building curiosity loops.

Every extra second they stay sends the algorithm the signal that it's looking for.

This content holds attention.

To generate a curiosity loop, you must stack your answers in a way that generates more questions.

This will make your audience want to stick around longer.

Think of it this way, it's like stacking dominoes.

answer tips onto the next, which tips onto the next answer, and so on and so forth.

As long as the chain keeps falling, your audience can't look away.

Here are three ways to stack your answers so every payoff fuels the next question.

Number one, answer with a twist.

Instead of giving an obvious explanation, frame your answer so it points to a bigger issue.

For example, in Mark Rober's video, this is space and this is an egg moments before I attempted the world's highest egg drop.

Now in an egg drop competition, in case you never had the chance to do it yourself in school, the goal is to build a contraption that can protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped from the tallest height possible.

You see how offering one answer, he opens up so many more in the viewer's mind.

What is an egg drop?

How did he get it up into space?

And what exactly is the result?

Number two, answer with a gap.

Drop part of the solution, but leaving the mechanism hanging.

For example, in this Mark Tilbury video, However, they often ignore the ones that aren't considered cool.

But the problem with cool remote jobs is that the competition is sky high, whereas the ones that aren't as popular are almost always hiring,

because people don't even know they exist.

He explains that the best jobs to make money are actually boring, leaving us wondering what are these jobs.

And number three, answer with a ladder.

Zoom out so your answer becomes step one of a larger process.

Another Mark Tilbury example here shows him revealing an infographic which shows the bigger picture, but makes the audience to stick around to find out what exactly it means.

This is what makes curiosity loops powerful.

You're not teasing for the sake of teasing, you're actually creating momentum, so that every time the audience feels like they're getting closer closer to the truth, you show them that there's another layer.

Alright, the next step in the process is to use multiple senses.

What you have to remember is that we are working within a visual and audio medium, so many people pay attention to the words they are saying,
