J'ai été très intéressé dès mon plus jeune âge et mon métier de rêve était d'être météorologue.
8
That's one of today's keywords, meteorologist, which means someone who studies the weather and the atmosphere in order to predict future weather.
9

14
So please make the most of that.
15
And yeah, so weather, super interested in it still.
16
I know I'm not a meteorologist, but I just still have that interest in, you know, typhoons, wind, rain,
17
heavy rain, floods, all these different things.
18
It's quite fascinating to me.
19
So, I guess let's get into our 39th topic.
20
Next episode is the last one of the season.
21
Can you believe it?
22
So let's do some part ones to warm me up.
23
What is the weather like in your country?
24
Well, I come from England and the weather in England can be quite dull.
25
I think a lot of people find it on the whole, quite dull.
26
But I think it's not as bad as people around the world think.
27
It's actually, there are a lot of sunny days.
28
You can go to the park and have a picnic and it does get quite hot in summer.
29
So on the whole, I think British weather is changeable.
30
Fickle, we could even say, but there are a lot of dull days.
31
- Good, okay, wow, I'm using two or three vocabulary already.
32
So check out the list.
33
Next question, do you experience extreme weather in your country?
34
Thank you.
35
We are starting to experience extreme weather more and more in the UK.
36
In the past, I don't feel like there was so many events.
37
There were sort of one -off events.
38
There was a hurricane and there were some floods and things like that and some droughts.
39
But nowadays it feels like every year there's some kind of big storm, some people die, you know, there are some bigger weather events.
40
Excellent, well, part two.
41
So today's part two is describe your favorite weather.
42
So two minutes on the clock starting now.
43
I'd like to tell you about sunny weather.
44
When I was young, I was a golfer.
45
I played a lot of golf.
46
So sunny weather, calm sunny days with a blue sky was a real blessing.
47
It made golf much easier and more enjoyable.
48
Outside of golf, I just loved sunny weather.
49
I loved going to the beach.
50
I loved having a picnic at the park.
51
I loved hiking in sunny weather.
52
There was such a number of activities I could do if it were sunny and clear.
53
Bots when it was windy
54
and rainy it was quite restrictive you know you couldn't really go outside
55
and there wasn't many indoor things to do so When I think back to my childhood in England,
56
right up until 21 years old, sunny weather was a real blessing and made me feel so good.
57
So let me tell you a little more about sunny days.
58
So in England, we don't really have any issues with pollution.
59
So when it's a sunny day, the The sky is very, very clear and it's a wonderful blue colour.
60
Now, it's quite a rare occasion to have that kind of day in England.
61
It's not a not every day kind of thing.
62
And but it's more likely in summer.
63
The thing that I always tell my students is those images you get of sort of every day raining
64
and windy in England.
65
is normally the winter or kind of early spring.
66
That's when we get that nasty weather.
67
For me personally, these days are so wonderful because they are quite rare.
68
So you're more familiar with rainy or windy, cloudy.
69
So when you get this bright day, You can do all the things you want to do.
70
Oh, wow.
71
I guess I really like this kind of weather because I had so much more to say.
72
But that was good.
73
That was fairly well structured.
74
I was quite happy with that.
75
Nothing I would change.
76
So we'll go straight on to part three.
77
Has the weather changed much in your country since you were young?
78
Thank you.
79
Well, it's a bit difficult for me to say because I haven't been in the UK much over the past 12 years,
80
but I will try my best.
81
When I was young, I feel like there weren't that many sunny days,
82
and particularly the summer wasn't that hot.
83
But the winters definitely got very cold.
84
I clearly remember as a child, We would normally get a few snowy days in winter, and it really did get cold.
85
We even had some white Christmases.
86
Nowadays, however, definitely those days are gone.
87
We seem to get very hot summers, sometimes really prolonged periods of very hot or sweltering weather.
88
And in the winter, it just doesn't get that cold.
89
Snow is very rare.
90
So, yeah, I think there have been some changes.
91
mainly related to temperature.
92
Excellent.
93
Part three, second question.
94
Do you think weather affects people's mood or behaviour?
95
I think it absolutely affects people's mood and behavior.
96
I think that when we have a prolonged period of cold weather, particularly overcast weather where we can't see the sun,
97
people start to feel a bit down.
98
It does have that effect.
99
Whereas a wonderful bright day like today, people just feel a bit more cheerful.
100
And especially when you wake up and it's quite nice and warm, it's not too cold in the morning.
101
I think people tend to feel a bit better.
102
Now for me personally, I'm definitely difficult things for me in England was sometimes in winter,
103
waking up every single day and it's
104
rainy and windy outside so that was a really hard thing to wake up to every day.
105
Good, okay, final question.
106
Why do people live in places with extreme weather?
107
This is a really tricky question.
108
I'm not sure.
109
I don't know really, because when I think about these places that come to my mind,
110
for example, North Russia, which is freezing cold,
111
you know, you look down towards these places that experience lots of...
112
strong winds, typhoons, hurricanes.
113
There's a lot of places that experience extreme weather.
114
And I think really, why do people live in places like that?
115
It's not, they don't really have a choice either.
116
they don't have the money to move somewhere more desirable, or that's where they were born and they grew up in, so that's what they're familiar with.
117
So I don't think people ever choose to do that.
118
I don't think there's some opportunity,
119
but we kind of have to deal with the hand that we're dealt for most of us.
120
So yeah, I think that's why they live in these places.
121
Excellent.
122
That was quite a tricky question actually, that last one.
123
Because honestly, I don't know.
124
So if you get those kind of questions in IELTS, you just have to speculate.
125
You just have to guess.
126
And you can be very honest with the examiner.
127
You can say, I don't really know to be honest.
128
But after that, you must speculate.
129
You must make some kind of guess why.
130
Good.
131
Okay.
132
Well, another topic that I really liked.
133
The final topic of the season, which will be next week, is urbanization.
134
So that's you.
135
Remember, this whole thing has been alphabetical order.
136
So we started with animals and we finished with urbanization, you.
137
There's no other topics after that.
138
But as I said, I may come back for a few bonus episodes.
139
So actually, yeah, if you have any requests for topics I haven't covered,
140
to do some bonus episodes for you.
141
So that's everything I have for you today.
142
Thank you so much if you made it to here and of course please hit that like button, subscribe and become part of the IELTS Plus community.
143
Have a wonderful week, study very hard and I'll see you next Wednesday for our final topic.
144
Bye -bye.
145
you
