Want to learn English?
2
Let's go.
3
So right now I'm hanging out here at the bus stop in the United States.
4
And in this video I want to take you around the city and describe and name a bunch of things in English.
5
I do see a bus coming out in the distance.
6
It's kind of hanging out there by the light.
7
We call that the traffic light.
8
And the color is red so that means the bus is stopped.
9
Once it turns green, that light, the bus is able to continue moving and it should pick me up.
10
So we made it on to the bus.
11
And to enter, you either have to buy a ticket, so that ticket is what you present the driver who's at the front.
12
Or in today's age, you can also download the app on the phone.
13
This is a phone.
14
You just scan the phone and the QR code and that allows you in.
15
So right here in front of me we have seats on the bus.
16
This is called a window.
17
And if you pull down this cable here, that'll let the driver know that you want to stop and get off.
18
Thank you.
19
Do you remember what this is called?
20
That's right, a bus stop.
21
So we just made it to downtown.
22
And downtown means the center of the city.
23
Some people call it the center, and some people call it downtown.
24
Either one works.
25
Usually in downtown or the central you can find a post office.
26
A post office is where you mail
27
things so you can kind of see this gentleman with some boxes going in there to mail a few items.
28
You can also place your mail right in here which is called a mailbox.
29
And they're usually blue and that way you don't have to go inside and drop off your mail.
30
You can just place it in one of those mailboxes and have it sent out to another city or state.
31
It is pretty hot, like I was saying earlier.
32
Here in Texas we have the sun that's popping out, the blue skies and the clouds.
33
So I might go into one of these stores to get a water or something to drink.
34
This one is called 7-Eleven, just like maybe like Southeast Asia.
35
But we also call these convenience stores.
36
And the word convenient means that it's easy to go and find one.
37
They're just right on the corner of the block.
38
So we usually call these a convenient store.
39
But yeah, let's head inside and see if we can get something to drink.
40
Thanks.
41
We have some chips, some potato chips.
42
Soda.
43
And some states actually call this soda pop, or just Coca-Cola.
44
That's soda.
45
Most of this stuff in here you can call it snacks.
46
S-N-A-C-K-S.
47
Snacks.
48
I am going to the convenience store to buy snacks.
49
But yeah as you can see they have all different types of products.
50
Even coffee in the morning.
51
So this is a coffee machine and really you can buy coffee any time of the day.
52
Usually coffee is had in the morning during breakfast.
53
But Here you can have coffee at any time of the day.
54
Do you remember what these are called?
55
That's right, snacks.
56
So I just got out of the convenience store.
57
I got myself a water and this thing that the water comes in is a water bottle.
58
And what's nice is you can just drink it right out of the bottle.
59
as I walk through the downtown area here in the United
60
States I'm passing some of these old buildings we call these a historic building
61
If you saw my last video I talked about stairs and handrails.
62
So like you see we have these stairs that you can walk up
63
and a handrail that you can put your hand on.
64
So it's a hand rail which leads you into the door and then the door handle.
65
So a lot of the words kind of connect.
66
You got the door, the door handle, the stairs, staircase, the handrail.
67
You start to see how they all kind of connect.
68
Right now I'm crossing the street.
69
And out in the distance you can kind of see the street light.
70
And since it's red, you have to stop.
71
right above me we have a tree
72
and under the tree we can get some shade from
73
the sun these are kind of cool they're kind of old school
74
but these are parking meters these things right here what you
75
do is you put your coins here in the US we have dollars and coins
76
looks like that one takes a credit card too
77
yeah you put your coin just right here
78
the amount of time you have for parking is displayed on the screen and you can You can see all these cars,
79
they're parked and they are parked in a parking spot.
80
So you have a parking meter, you can put your coin in here, we have a car, a parking spot.
81
Well, I hope that wasn't too boring.
82
Just a few minutes of English vocabulary here in downtown, in the center.
83
